You have no idea how inspiring you are to a new operator, I heard you briefly on 20M today but conditions were not ideal for a QSO.
Although licenced now for just 6 months and only a week on HF, I have been watching your videos for ages, and always learn something new.
    Keep it up please.
Greetings from sunny Dorset in the West countryside of England.

I have to agree with Tim Hill. I just took and passed my tech and General a week ago and as I sit here waiting to get my callsign assigned, without a lick of equipment to my name, it’s fantastic to have these and other videos by all the great Elmer’s out there to really get an idea of what it’s really like. I can only imagine how much of a bumbling nervous wreck I am going to be. You guys make it sound so effortless. Well done.

Hi Jim, Love your informative videos ! I was wondering if you could do a video or series of videos dealing with 10 meter repeater use. Freq's used and just info one should know who has never tried to use 10 meter repeaters. Thanks Jim. 73 from WU3D Don.

I had to edit it down to just a few minutes. And yes, he has a good sense of humor and had me laughing much of the time. Many of the JA guys are a lot of fun. Thanks for watching. 73, Jim

Jim, as a new technician (April 2017), your equipment and ability is both amazing and inspiring. I watch all of your videos and learn from each one, would love an EchoLink QSO sometime!

Thanks Jeff. I don't have EchoLink or really know much about it. I am an old HF guy. Congratulations on your License. Please go all the way to Extra so you can also enjoy the benefits of HF. Thanks for writing Jeff. 73, Jim W6LG in Grass Valley

Jim W6LG Jim, if you have an EchoLink capable 2m repeater near you, I can connect to it from here in Indiana. The only thing you would have to do is access the repeater.

What's the reason you keep releasing the ptt all the time.

Situational awareness. It takes just a split second to see what is happening. 73 and thanks for asking, 73, Jim

Great Video Jim, I have watched many of your videos and you make it look so easy. As a beginner on HF I guess the things I am trying to understand is how you find the openings in propagation for the band and what TOD are you getting them. Are most or all contacts via gray line or do you use beacon or WSPR reports to find them? I know listening is a lot of it but where to listen? I know I will never have your results on my limited power and antenna but even a hard of hearing hog might hear an acorn fall if it was loud enough.
    Thanks again,
    Mike W4TRK Central Alabama

      Hi Mike,
It is very nice of you to write. The answer to your questions is probably my experiences on 20 meters for over 50 years. So, I have learned when to listen. Keep in mind that I am not always right. There are days when the propagation is excellent and 20 meters is open somewhere all day even after sunset. My peak times on the air looking for DX are; sunrise and sunset (during the summer) to EU, after lunch short path to AF, about 3pm local to Asia via short path and long path at the same time to VK, ZL. The path across the Equator to South America is in the afternoon for about 3 hours. I agree, the digital modes are good for findout what is happening. The DX clusters to some extent help. The most important thing is for you to listen to see what you can hear. What you hear may be very different from someone just 50 to 100 miles away. Thanks Mike & 73 Jim

Thanks for posting this -- it's very interesting to listen in. At 2:30, what do you think is causing the change in the quality of the sound?

Jim, Thank you for your very educational videos. Do Hams only talk about transceiver gear and the weather? I plan on buying a mobile radio for Jeep. I am studying for my Tech class exam.
