  • Old Abandoned Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Line Put Back In Use! See How Steam Engines Get Water & Watch Steam Powered Passenger Trains Pass By. Close Look At Rail Over A Century Old And Still In Use. This Is The Cass Scenic Railroad In Cass, West Virginia. Includes Look At Shop Yard From Above.
    Back to Cass Scenic Railroad State Park for some more coal burning steam locomotive action. Trains are finally running once again after decades between Cass and Durbin, West Virginia. The line along the river had been out of service for years and years due to wash outs. This track used to be Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. This is the line that Cass Railroad had an interchange with to access the outside world. The line is no longer in use west of Cass and has been removed. Cass is connected to the national rail network at the top of the mountain but no longer by the bottom.
    Look how old this rail is. Well over a hundred years old and still in use. We also see a historic post indicator valve for fire sprinklers/ fire header isolation valve. This is the only place where I have see something like that. Does anyone know anything about these? I would like to know how old they are. Years ago I was a fire fighter for a couple of small country departments but never saw anything like this.
    We also have an unusual view of the Shay locomotives from up on the hillside. These are old logging locomotives with outside gears. This is just a short video today. I will have a long video tomorrow. I have a Steam Trains playlist with over 100 videos. It is at the bottom of my page.
    Filmed in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!
    Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel.

    Eeee! As they'd say here in North Yorkshire UK. That's a fine piece of narrow gauge video JT. Very much appreciated seeing the running shed at the Cass Railroad and a very nice shot of Shay #11 with its train. I like the water feed from the tower. Over here we usually have a pipe with a long leather hose around 6inch in diameter to feed the water into the tender tank. It's always been known among railwayman as "putting the bag in". Most crews will take water at any available opportunity so they're ready for anything!

    • @Beans1905-rv2ev

      Not narrow guage it's standered

    • @rodsmith3911
      @rodsmith3911 2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for that. I thought it looked bigger than the 3ft6in that the book I was looking in said. I have worked on standard and 2ft gauge lines during my 77 years and enjoy anything that runs on steam!
      If you ever get over to the UK do visit the North Yorkshire Moors Railway which is standard gauge and the Ffestiniog Railway in North Wales which is 2ft gauge and the oldest narrow gauge railway in the world still operating on its original site and company.

    • @JawTooth

      I filmed them taking water from a creek to load a tender on this line on the Durbin section of track. I don't know if I ever posted that. I'll be honest I'm not big on steam and I don't know why, I love Trains and even the infrastructure but steam just doesn't inject the hysteria but I love all that you do for us and you seem to enjoy them so the least I can do is watch em, thanks JT.

    This is a beautiful Heisler locomotive like one that I've been fireman for up in Willetts California.
    It figures that the Fireman on this engine would get out to put water in the tender and the safety would go off while he's not attending! 😂 Stuff happens!
    Thanks for the wonderful videos!

    That wasn't a fire hydrant. It was a PIV --Post Indicator Valve. They are used to open or close a valve in an underground pipeline. Many times they control fire protection water lines but they can be used for general service water.

It's the sound's and the smell of things like steam and burning cola. 1976 I was a kid in Salt Lake City and some houses still had coal stoves. I loved winter and lived next to the railway. It does make one wonder... could the steam train run on Pepsi Light? RT sends/envía, Colonia Centro Histórico, Puebla, México..
