- So excited. Just bought a used ESQ-1 hybrid synth. Needs a little repair tho.
Watch me replace esq-1 data fader, loose mod wheel, and sticky key that doesn't sound properly.

I opened mine up recently and was surprised I had the sequencer expander to.
My faders playing up to glitching parameters and suddenly goes quiet, praying this will help me fix it. So thanks

Not sure if you’ve seen them but there’s a guy on eBay who makes a cart with the whole set of sounds and space to store your own.
Works out much cheaper than hunting down the originals which are somewhat pricey these day 👍
Interesting that on a ESQ1 with plastic end caps, the faders are mounted on the other side of the board, and don’t have the little green jumper traces. Unfortunately there’s only 3 solder points, and it’s very common to have a cracked solder pad if something has impacted the sliders.
Well done and good info. BTW, to change a parameter you don't have to keep holding down the soft button. Just select it.
If the parameter is underlined, it gets changed by the slider or up/down arrows. No need to hold anything down. You can change just about anything on the synth with just one finger.

As for the battery, just remove it and get an AA battery holder, use hotglue to glue the holder at the right (where no PCB is), get these AA batteries which are being used in smoke detectors etc. It will work too, it's way cheaper and safer if the battery would leak because if it would leak it would just leak on the chassis and not on the PCB. Does this synth also has this 80ties electronics smell? I'm currently trying to fix a Roland MSQ700 sequencer. One of the segments on the display doesn't work. So I decided to do the battery mod, produce new buttons (in 3D and send them to a CNC milling service in China so they'll make my new buttons). I still haven't found out whats causing my issue, maybe it's the display thats fucked up or maybe the led driver. Servicing these old music instruments is a nice hobby. Thank you for this video I wish we had more of these kind of videos.
BTW I almost forgot to tell you that these 10k sliders Syntaur is selling are way over priced. You can get them on Chinese sites for much cheaper. They are exactly the same. Panasonic used to make them but now some OEM company still makes them. They're exactly the same, no need to pay a lot for them.
Do you have idea what could be causing the following error on start up of a TS10:"Keyboard is not responding"? I have checked all the ribbon cables and they all seem to be fitted fine. I have heard of people hard wiring the main board to the key-bed instead of using the ribbon cable to solve this error? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Holyshit it looks like there are so many corrosion on the solderjoints of the display board, you really had to clean them and resolder them too.
