- Remember the salted egg craze in Singapore a few years ago? Well, IRVINS Salted Egg potato chips would probably come to mind if you mention salted egg.
But when COVID-19 struck, this homegrown brand wasn’t spared from the economic impact, especially with Singapore’s ban on tourists and their airport snack stores having to close.

They do not need to lower the price for people to buy the chips. Wanna know what's not premium? Pringles and jack&jill. Stick to those if you can't afford salted egg chips.

Love this chips but it's really quite expensive for a regular Filipino like me.

This news is kind of late haha .. 2 -3 years ago everywhere in Singapore was like long Q and this Irvin fish skin is always running out of stock. Although is expensive but people will still buy 1 cartons or many packs not just one pack. Than when it get popular my friends from Thailand will ask me to help them to buy when I visit them. Now Thailand have the branch there and all over the world . I guess in Singapore it slowly down but the taste is still so far the best fish skin in Singapore market . One thing I didn't know that this Singaporean born products is actually Indonesian. Read about him he came to Singapore when he was still a child.
@Haytham Kenway wha Lao of course I know lah . I am just trying to answer to those who say that this snacks main customers are tourists. What I know is 2-3 years ago the main customers are locals and not the tourists. Because of the q catches the tourists attention and that is how it started and I am one of them to q up but now the local crowds kind die down they need another strategy to help in the business even without covid-19.

LOL! When I heard his accent at first, I knew that he was Indonesian rather than Singaporean and yes, my guess is right!!
Never really ate this, but after seeing the people behind it and hearing their story, I shall go try it 😁 Just a really feel good story, the way they changed their business strategy to overcome the effects of the pandemic.

fast forward to 2023 - IRVINS chips and salmon skin is available nationwide in the USA at Costco. This is not an insignificant milestone.
I remember going pass the 313 store and the shop front was usually empty. Then, one day, this chips became so popular my friends from overseas were asking me to buy it for them..
In Vietnam they have salmon skins with salted egg and potata chip with salted egg for sale just less than $2

I order them about 4 times a year as a treat, since it’s quite expensive.
Searching Scottish Indians made me find a city called Kolkata, India and made me buy a soft drink called Irn-Bru from Scotland this year. Next year, would like to buy Singapore's Irvin Salted Egg snacks online because I have been to Singapore by transit before. My budget is $US250 for online purchase a year.

Haytham Kenway bruh, Affording something is never the matter to me. It’s about wether the product fits the price, if it’s worth it or not. If you think getting a “big” bag of chips filled with 50% air in it for 20$ is worth, suit yourself. As long as you’re happy 😉
*fyi, I would have you know that 20$ here in Taiwan can get you estimate 8-10cups (depending on stores) of pearl milk tea.

In the USA. It cost like $13 and the bag isn't that big. Big bag of chips are mostly $3 and i'm talking about party size bags. If i'm walking in a snack aisle and a big bag of hot Cheetos is only $3 i'll grab that instead of the $12 chips. lol

You try to be atas and only sell in your stores and mainly to tourist....now pandemic hits, you need local help. The local should be your main focus, not tourists.

I think he should referring to the one at orchard 313 branch. Initially it was the local to buy and create long q and the tourists are curious about it and buy as well. After eating they kind of like it and started to buy in carton back to their countries because Irvin doesn't have branch back at their home. That is how when tourists buy they would bought it by carton and many packs. Now the local slow down. Irvin must have another strategy to sell it online and oversee to expand their business

The quality is very inconsistent, the first we tried the product it was very nice, however the next few purchases, the product its totally tasteless, and the fish skin is all clump together.

$10 potato chips??? this must be the most expensive potato chips in the world. it would not sell when sold in a supermarket where there are other similar products. probably can sell at changi airport when people look to buy this as a “gift from singapore” ... but not as a pack of potato chips.
Singapore labour and infrastructure costs are also not cheap leh. It's a premium product with a flavour people would pay for.
