Love the wet blend with Speedpaint!
The new sculpt has boatloads of texture, it seems like a joy to speedpaint/contrast/xpress over.
Oh for sure. This is what speedpaint/contrast paint is best at. I'm currently finishing up the new Dreadnought, and I'm using mostly airbrush & regular paints for that. Too many flat surfaces for a contrast style paint.
Excellent quick walkthrough on your process. Definitely a great application of the speed paint 2.0
I got to say this is an impressive finish. I have seen a bunch of vid's where Contrast or Speed paints have been used over a model and to my mind the result looks like some one could not be bothered to actually block in the paint and near enough was good enough. It is why I went for under painting when using Contrast paints and you have a smooth finish that darkens into shadow where you want it.
That's a sexy colour combo!
Nice work!
Looks awesome! Great use of speed paints!
Nice paint job. Have you had any issues with contrast style paints appearing to be hydrophobic when being applied over airbrushed paint? I recently had that happen with Army Painter air.
Interesting. I haven't had that happen to me yet. But I think one way you could fix that is to spray a matte varnish on after you're done with the airbrush colors, then add the constrast/speedpaint.
@@WatchItPaintIt it’s an easy fix, I just dry brushed the same base coat before continuing. The only thing I can think of is that the airbrush layer is so smooth the paint has nothing to “grip” or I didn’t shake it enough.
Follow up to my comment last week! It was definitely my fault with the hydrophobic contrast paint. Yesterday I shook the bejesus out of the AP air paints I was using and didn’t have any problems when I was painting with contrast a little later in the day! Moral of the story…..shake those paints, and then shake them some more!
May there be a benefit to applying a "Gloss Varnish" on the Primer before applying the Speed Paint? Will this create more contrast between the peaks and valleys of the model? Will Speed Paint adhere to the Gloss Varnish?
Nice just got all the speedpaints and I mean all of them
That’s a lot of paint! :-)
Would this look good using wraithbone as a primer?
How did I not see this message? It would look very slightly darker, but should ok. I'd paint the "brain" part pure white though before using contrast paint.
Wish was able to get speed paint in my area. My local store would have to order the whole box and will be unable to get individuals.. do these colors have a contrast paint equivalent
Yes they do have rough equivalents. The contrast paint line isn't quite as big, but pick a bone color, a couple flesh colors and a purple and you're good to go!
Not using speed paint. Will you be doing any guides with regular or contrast?
The idea is the same. Speed paints are just cheaper and less coffee staining. But simply use corresponding contrast/xpress/.what ever and u will get similar result.
Oh yeah - in fact most of my paint jobs are with "regular" paints. For this guy you could use the same colors with regular paints, then add a wash, then a light drybrush.
