A simple tip to clean iron: Spread a few tbs of salt on a cotton cloth. Heat up your iron fully and then press on the salt in circular motion without exerting too much pressure. It'll be cleaned. You can store the used salt and reuse it later for the same purpose.
P.S Don't use this method if your iron has black nonstick coating.
