    You're a genius! I never thought about using a window to trace... Genius! Man, that could've saved me so much time on previous projects. Thank you so much for this great tutorial!

      You DIDN'T KNOW things could be embroidered by hand? I stared at the screen for a long time trying to figure out whether that is really what you meant or not. So, you literally thought embroidery was only invented when somebody came up with a way for a machine to do it??

    You will need to get some transfer paper for dark fabric. put a book or hard surface under the fabric, then the transfer paper, then your design. Use a ball point pen and press firmly. It can be tricky, so maybe practice a time or two first! Thanks for watching!!! Hope that helps!

    Ohmy, I'm so looking forward to start this. Never done it before!! Just need to get a needle and embroider floss

    • @sarahhilbert8380
      @sarahhilbert8380 9 років тому

      Kristin Morgan I know it's probably a little late for this reponse, but the floss you buy from walmart can be made thinner, you just have to pull it apart. I made that same mistake when i first started using it. I had been using an old collection of floss my grandmother and great grandmother had saved.

      use stencils and trace with a white pencil or light marker if you are useing dark material that needs to be embroidered on.

    I have never done this on a t-shirt, but there are some stabilizers you can get at the craft store for t-shirts, they would go on the under side of the shirt. How come you can't put it in a hoop? Once the stabilizer is on it will help and then you can gently put the t-shirt in a hoop without warping the fabric and stretching it too much. I hope that helps!

    Wow, your using a lot of threads, you can get two strands and then do it. When sticking you don't need the whole thing that's Why they are in a different strands.

  • @sam111880
    @sam111880 8 років тому

    O traceing would work to.... i am curious does it have to be special kind of embroidery thread or can it be any home thread does it greatly aid in precision and speed of design if you uses the specialized embroidery thread? I would imagine so only because of the extra thickness of the thread used but any thread of the same thickness would work i would imagine just guessing

    • @anticuti
      @anticuti 8 років тому +1

      +sam111880 when you try you will see, normal thread won't look nice and the tension, stiffness, thickness is not nice to work with.

      This is a skill. It takes practice.

    • @BunnyCAW
      @BunnyCAW 8 років тому +5

      +karenz Yes, and if you do not have proficiency in a skill, you should not be demonstrating "how to" videos of that skill until you obtain some proficiency in it. People who have never encountered embroidery will watch this video and either be confused, or pick up all sorts of bad habits. 1. She should have used an interfacing to stiffen behind the embroidery. 2. She should have used fewer strands of the 6 strand cotton thread as using all 6 made it lumpy and unattractive. 3. She should have tightened the fabric that she was working on in the hoop because proper tension is part of good needlepoint, it stops the image from being distorted when you block the fabric to finish the piece. 4. She should have given thought to the placement of her knots as well as where she carried the thread across the back of the fabric to "backtrack" as lumpy knots and dark thread visible through a light fabric are low quality workmanship. (A very true old adage is that "the back should look almost as good as the front.") There is more, but basically, don't "teach" if you are making elementary mistakes yourself.
