  • How to repair a teared sinus membrane?
    3d video of Clínica Médico Dental Pardiñas (j.mp/cPardinas) on the repair of the sinus membrane (or Schneiderian membrane) by elevating it.
    Sinus elevation is a technique used to gain the volume of bone necessary for the placement of dental implants in posterior areas of the maxilla.
    During the realization of the lateral window, sometimes the Schneiderian membrane is accidentally perforated. One of the techniques to repair this perforation is to continue with the elevation of the membrane, retracting it on itself and placing an artificial membrane protecting the area below where the bone graft will be placed.
    The maxillary sinus is a cavity filled with air and in communication with the nose. When the sinus membrane is accidentally perforated a direct air communication is created from the nose to the oral cavity, which has to be repaired.
    Another technique to repair a perforation is the placement of a fibrin membrane obtained from the patient's own blood that will seal that perforation, allowing the bone graft procedure to be continued and finished.

    My dentist completed a bone graph without first sealing the sinus perforation. So now I have a hole going through my gum the air goes through and it is now almost day 7 tomorrow will be day 7. I even had a follow-up visit and he was not concerned that there is a hole with air going through it. What do I do?

      You should go back to have that communication with the sinus sealed. It can be done with a gingival flap, with a membrane or with PRP

      Thank you for your help . I finally got a referral to a oral surgeon they said there is a sinus communication opening . In August they he is going in to close that up and remove a root that dentist left and pack and seal up my socket hole . Was that surgery pretty easy ? I’m hoping it is wanted to get it done sooner but next opening there is mid August.

    I have been living with this sinus communication for 5 years, since my back upper molar teeth removal. I am now seeing an ENT Dr. in Texas USA. The communication has grown larger. Are there any additional complications associated with "long-term" sinus/oral communication?

    • @Dentalk
      @Dentalk  3 роки тому

      Yes, you should treat the sinus communication ASAP, as it can become chronic and wider.
