Opening comments about politicians being unable to be honest in the boiler room didn't even fall to the ground.
There is not one politician without whom a mechanism in the country comes to a standstill. The people build, operate, repair, and maintain EVERYTHING. The good done in the name of politicians was done by the people. So much of substance could have been said. He could have explained how he and the UPP intended to use a machine, conceived to consolidate the influence of the plantocracy over the rest of the society and deny any freedoms to the masses when the people had no rights or say, to bring relief of any kind to those said masses TODAY, as though the coffee grinder can play DVDs once you wait 375 years. Or, how you intended to dismantle it and construct something that actually works for the masses, and if not, WHY NOT. Or, why the people should believe that the UPP can succeed in using this machine where the other parties have failed from inception. Hard questions Fari, and don't accept these vague, soft, PR opportunity answers.
Patronizing your bosses and laying the corruption of the political sphere at the feet of the collective populace rather than holding the politician accountable for their action, just as they hold the individual in that collective accountable, was frankly disturbing and disgusting. As AG said he is not speaking as the common man, but as a potential MP, and clearly seeking not to piss off anyone who could offset his program. He was indeed defending, and it came over as a paid advertisement for the political class, painting politicians as well-meaning bumps on that road paved with good intentions "if we're being honest with each other". Simple truth, no disrespect, but we learned nothing new. No more spin. The time for pulling punches is over. It cannot be business as usual.
