I found this watch for over a year… It’s still wins wrist time Every week… The best value for money in my collection of over 30 watches...Sits between my Rolex and my Omega...The bracelet, although cheap, has a certain charm to it and it’s very comfortable. If it’s not your thing that’s no problem because it looks great on a Nato. It’s +4 to 5 seconds a day (check when I got it and just checked it again)...this watch is the reason I have added to other Orients to my collection...If you are a 2 watch guy or a 30 watch guy...buy this one with confidence!

Bought that blue ray 2 more than a year ago as my first automatic watch for about 150$. It didn't disappoint, it's a classy looking dive watch that works so well with different outfits. Sure it cut some corners to fit the price but it still looks more expensive than it actually costs. Overall just a reliable, great looking, respected brand watch that many can afford and enjoy.

In your review, you focus on small details such as measuring the dimension by yourself. That is so amazing!
Lots of reviewers out there just directly read the brochure without thinking (Sometimes there is a miss measurements, just a few milimiters, however that few millimeters really matters for a detail oriented person like me before choosing to buy the watch LOL)

Actually, I think even the sapphire crystal Kamasu price is going down heaps now. I think you can even get it for around 200 USD now. But if you're in the USA and you want a white dial, get the Mako USA 2. I believe Long Island watch is having a special.

    • @PerthWAtch

@@PerthWAtch And I think the Mako 2 lume is better than the Kamasu. I've seen some macro shot of the Kamasu dial and looks like Orient did some cost cutting and didn't fill up the entire indices. Other than that, they should be almost identical to each other. Too bad they don't have Mako USA 2 with red dial.

Thanks for the complete review which made me decide to purchase this watch over other different Orient models. The dial is really eye catching and makes it neatly wearable either dressed up for casual or formal occasions. For sure my daily watch specially for work, but I can't even help not wearing it around at home. I found it for 139 EUR in Amazon Spain over a month ago and price seems to go around +/-15 EUR so definitely Orient is keeping a great price value on this watch. I did find a couple of differences on my unit:
1- An upgraded (if I may say so) clasp which is now a bit longer with 4 micro adjustment holes and a polished finish on the foldable metal parts. The indent in front of the security clasp is now brushed instead of the lined finishing I see on your review. This makes it a less cheap looking clasp in my opinion.
2- On the contrary, all the bracelet links have push pins, unfortunately giving them a less solid look compared to what I've seen on your review.
Overall a great looking watch which has set my preferences on automatic dive watches. Hopefully my next purchase would be the Seiko Prospex SaveTheOcean King Turtle Manta Ray, model SRPE39K1 if I save enough cash before it's discontinued.
    Best regards from Madrid, Spain!

Thanks for sharing that, and glad to hear you're enjoying the watch! Not too surprised to hear some of those subtle differences, which don't affect watch overall, but do seem to occur from time to time (sometimes region to region). Cheers from Australia! :)

First, great and accurate review. I've had the "Blue Ray II" (BRII) for a month now and she's just a beauty. The way she sits on my wrist, 7.4 inches, is perfect. I find the bracelet to be very comfortable. So much so in fact that I ordered another one to replace the bracelet on my Kamasu. The folding clasp on the Kamasu is longer than on the BRIIs and doesn't allow the links on the bracelet to mold to the wrist. But the star of this show is the blue dial. What a treat to watch the blue, silver hues roll within and around the inside of the dial. It draws you into a comforting place within. Let's not forget a small but excellent detail, the red arrowed tip of the seconds hand. I think it's the perfect amount of color sweeping through the blue space of the dial. The BRII is 119.00 on now. It has to be a steal for this fabulous watch. Again, great review and thank you.

The reason I bought the Red Kamasu was because I was so impressed with the Ray. The kamasu was just about the same size, it has a sapphire crystal and there are tons of good reviews so, how could I go wrong with the upgrade???? Well...I found the bracelet on the Kamasu to be very uncomfortable and the the dial colors are to me, moody. It shifts between black and burgundy. The BR2 dances with silver and blue in the sunlight. Very cheerful if you ask me. Lasty, for some reason, the Kamasu sits higher on the wrist. The BR2 sits down more flush to the wrist as if it were custom made for me. IMPORTANT - The bezel and bezel action on the Kamasu are superior to the BR2. It's really difficult to turn the bezel on the BR2. It's gotten better with time..but it still isn't close. Enjoy whichever you go with.

Thanks for the informative and helpful review! I just recently picked up the black one (I've worn the blue one for the past 2 years), and really appreciate the matte black face - very wearable in a lot of situations. I don't have any luxury watches but have tried on some friends and stores' Rolexes, Patek's, Omega's, etc., and I can truly say that Orient's overall quality and QC is remarkable and satisfies my itch for a very handsome, wearable, and reliable diver.

If you have really small wrists there is really not much more that compete with this in its price range. Taking into account the fact it's an in house movement, I think it presents great value. Even if you double the price of this watch I still think it's hard to find better value. A great modification is the strap code tapering oyster bracelet and then a domed sapphire which really makes the dial pop more. I still search for something that beats this for my tiny wrists apart from the skx which is double the price of this now. The other great feature of this watch is how well it keeps time. If I wear the watch then rest crown up at night it barely gains or loses much time. I also like the fact it's not a blatant submariner replica or even homage. Has ques from Seiko, omega and Rolex but nothing so obvious. My only negatives are the mineral crystal scratches easily but this is easily replaceable with a sapphire. The bezel is very tight at first but loosens up by about 50% after you wear it in. Great automatic diver on a budget.

Thank you very much for taking the to me to share those thoughts and insights! We are pretty much limited to Seiko, Citizen, and Vostok!

This is one of my favourite watch. About the bezel, it's not hard to rotate, you just have to press down on the bezel as you rotate it.
Ironically, the bezel insert is both the best part of the design and also a weakness. The aluminium insert is easy to scratch, but because of the indentations, it's impossible to get a replacement aftermarket ceramic insert.

I'd like to share my thoughts:
2 of my favorite watches are the blue dial omega seamaster 300m and the black dial Rolex submariner, but unfortunately, cannot afford them... If i did, I would storm out the door and go buy them!
But, let's be honest, they both cost way to much!!
Instead, I think you can still get a taste of both, by buying 1) the blue orient Ray for the Omega seamaster vibe/homage, currently sold on Amazon for 129$ and 2) the black Invicta pro diver , for the Rolex submariner vibe/homage, sold on Amazon for about 70$!
Both, value for money divers, offering all that you need basically, robust feel & quality, 200m WR, 120 click unidirectional bezel, screwdown crown, reliable & accurate Japanese automatic movement, good looks/size overall.
Anywhere on UA-cam, I always read good reviews for both and the best of comments!
So, I'm pretty convinced these two are the ones to buy if you are looking for affordable divers, suitable for any circumstance, that you can alternate to match your clothing!
My Invicta pro diver is arriving tomorrow and can't wait to give it some wrist time! 🤗
Next one up, is this orient Ray, definitely! 🙏

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 роки тому +1

Thanks for sharing those thoughts, I always appreciate hearing perspectives like this! :)
For budget Rolex sub-homages, do take a look at the 5 watch comparison video I did recently - quite a number of options in this space for sure, but Invicta is always up there.
There are few direct homage of the Omega SMP 300m but I believe Pagani might do one that is most direct? Doesn't have the credentials and company provenance of Orient of course.
About buying Rolex... well if I could go and buy a Sub now, I probably would. But ironically if I could actually do that it also wouldn't have the allure it does. The experience would be more like this at the dealer:
Me: "Hi there, I would like to buy a black dial Submariner Date please!"
Dealer: "Em... ok.... and who are you sir?"
Me: "Me? Just a guy wanting to buy a Sub!"
Dealer: "And you've never bought a watch from us before?"
Me: "Er... no. Is that a problem?"
Dealer: "Well... yes. We have a (very long) wait list for any sports models, and you can't get on it because we don't know you"
(Possibly goes on to imply that I have to buy 1 to 3 Rolex dress models before "qualifying" to be even considered for wait listing for a sports model)

Unfortunately, i guess most of the Rolex clients kinda look for this kind of discrimination, making them feel " special" & "privileged"... Not being available for "everybody" tends to build up the "myth" around the brand...at least that's my opinion!
Anyway, just received my Invicta pro diver 8926OB and feeling excited as hell!

Although, at first I had really made up my mind getting ready to buy the Orient Ray 2 in blue, the Invicta pro diver 9094 has really got into my mind and i seem to be liking it more, especially since my really good impressions from the Invicta I already own.
I know that it's really a matter of personal taste, but, can I have your objective opinion on which one to go for?

I found the notion of comparing this Orient to a Vostok interesting Ivan. You could buy a Vostok along with a Chinese Loreo diver for what you paid for the Orient and both cheap watches can beat the Orient on some specs. But for me, that misses the point and shows that a little bit of magic that cannot readily be quantified is required to yield a truly good watch. Your Orient is very attractive, partly because of its balanced design and accessible virtues. I suspect that these facets make it highly desirable outside the watch community as well as within it. So the Orient seems to me to be the watch to be seen wearing, out and about, by all and sundry. It's simply a good looking watch that needs no justification for ownership. Somehow, when I wear either of the other two watches I mentioned whilst out socially, I go about feeling that sooner or later I will be making excuses for the obscure geeky values that justify my owning them and as a result, excuses for my acquisitive hobby.

I purchase the same watch about a couple months ago for $127 delivered. I figure if I scratch the crystal I will replace it with a domed sapphire with ar coating. If the end links start to loosen I will replace them with solid as well, they are about $22, the Domed sapphire crystal is about $40. Or you can just purchase one from Long Island watch for $199 with the same mods Plus drilled lugs.

@@PerthWAtch Hi Perth watch, I've been looking for a replacement for my 18-year-old Citizen Titanium Ecodrive, as the band broke recently and can't be fixed/replaced. Initially I was looking exclusively at Ecodrive, discounting automatics as most of the cheaper ones are heavy and accuracy questionable. However I've heard that the Citizen capacitor has an expected life of about 20 years... As mentioned earlier in the comments, Citizen do have an automatic, but face too big for my liking, 41mm being about my limit (considered the 39mm Longines Hydroconquest, but too expensive for moi!). How can the accuracy of an automatic be "easily improved", as you mention above? Cheers from Perth

In my experience quality hardened mineral glass is not distinguishable from Seiko's Hardlex, which seems mostly a marketing gimmick. Poorly quality glass however will fall short, e.g. in some Chinese watches, and scratch a lot easier.

I'm looking at buying this as my first watch, so I'm new to watches and all the functions and things around it. It might be a stupid question, but the unidirectional style bezel you're talking about at around 6:20 in the video, what's its function? Why does it turn? I assumed the numbers on it would be the seconds, but why would i want to be able to turn it? Thanks a lot already!

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  3 роки тому

It’s a timing bezel - rotate the zero to where the minute hand points, and from then on the bezel indicates minutes elapsed. With diving you don’t want the bezel turning clockwise accidentally and misleading one to think less time has passed (ie. make you think you have more air left than you really do). Hope that’s clear enough an explanation!
