    Emotions are there to tell you about yourself. They make fine servants if you control them. They make terrible masters if you don't.

    reason makes it possible for us to live. emotion gives us a reason to live.

      I have lived and have known many others who have lived without emotions. These same people have reacted to situations without reason to accomplish tasks.

    Ayn Rand is much more than just about "capitalism is better than communism." Her words are about TRUE FREEDOM and LIVING THE LIFE THAT YOU DESIRE!!

      Is there such a state of mind as in Freedom? If so, can this state of mind ever be complete?

    Propaganda develops emotional responses, whereas education develops intellectual responses which lead to emotional responses backed with intellectual integrity.

      umabooma Yes, it's fine to me emotional, but only after doing the due diligence of objective research. The problem is that the outside observer will just see another emotional person, not seeing the justified certainty as it is a subjective nuance.

      Where does that leave us when education has become propaganda, that produce the likes of a young Mr. David Hogg?

      I don't think getting shot at constitutes "propaganda."
      He wasn't speaking out for background checks before the school shooting.

      @@billlupin8345 -- David Hogg was not shot at. He was in a classroom elsewhere on campus, in relative safety. Mr. Hogg used the opportunity to express his liberal ideas.
      In contrast, at 22 a drunken security guard fired 6 shots at me from 25 yards and missed as I labored lawfully in yard outside his warehouse. I didn't pound a lectern but had to deal with the stress for months.
      I believe David Hogg is but a shameless opportunist.

      @@gurmin1Yeah, see, to me, "relative safety" is not on site with an active shooter.
      His "liberal ideas" that we should be free to own guns, as long as we don't have priors for mental illness or domestic abuse, eh? That's some harsh restrictions there. Big brother's a'comin'.
      So let me get this straight.
      A drunk shot at you, on land you were supposed to be on, and you did NOT have him arrested, and make sure he couldn't use his guns in such a reckless manner to endanger someone else?
      That's pretty dumb, dude.

    The "no one stays here by faking reality" is something that confused me for some time. When the narrator says that John won't "sugar coat" reality just to make Dagny stay, is that a reference to when Galt says "... and then the collapse of the Taggart Bridge," meaning he won't pretend the railroad will be fine without her just to get her to stay? I mean, I think it's pretty clear to everyone that the railroad and bridge would collapse, there's no need for Galt to point it out.

  • @bovnycccoperalover3579
    @bovnycccoperalover3579 6 років тому +1

    Still, Dagny used her mind and made the wrong decision. Or did she? The world was in ruins and the greatest minds had left. All she cared about was the railroad and the bridge but how could it run with everything else failing? No, it was emotion vs emotion. Her love for John versus her love of a railroad that was doomed to failure. If she decided with her head, what was the calculation?

    the problem is, people claim some scientific facts are fact till they are proven to be wrong

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 6 років тому +1

      I don't call that a problem. I call that a solution. Man has made mistakes in determining reality, but we also have the ability to correct them, which advances the human condition. Where would you be today, if you had not corrected the mistakes you have made? That would be a problem, correct?

    The mind is man (eye)
    The heart is his wife (ear)
    If thought is at odds with feeling then the husband quarrels with his wife. He doesnt ignore her. He is ultimately responsible for the decision that HE makes for them both.

    That's hilarious... "I can have it built in 3 months". Oh, really, little girl? All by yourself, with your own hands? You don't even know what labor supply you will have to do the work, or where you'll get the materials (like, say, Rearden metal).

    • @thunberbolttwo3953

      you're not getting it. her answer was bullshit, intended to show how competent she was. she can't give an accurate assessment because she lacks data. labor has nothing to do with my point.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 6 років тому +5

      Jim: She built the John Galt line, and ran the only profitable RR in the nation. What more data does she need to make an accurate assessment of building 3 miles of track? As far as the labor needed,---many people move for a job and opportunity.

    • @Hiraghm
      @Hiraghm 5 років тому

      @@EarthSurferUSA a geology survey would help; a demographic report would help. Where is the steel for the tracks to come from? How is it to be smelted? How long, using Atlantis resources, will it take to smelt/form the steel? What means of transporting the steel, of moving the earth, are available to her? yes, labor can be had... but will the labor + materials be cheap enough to make the new switchback worth building? She doesn't know, because she doesn't know what they will cost her in Atlantis. Many people will move for a job and opportunity... but Atlantis has strict immigration policies. They can't let just anyone in, because sure as shit, union, socialist types will also move for a job and opportunity... even if they don't succeed in harming Atlantis, it will take time, effort and lost productivity in order to weed them out. And then they know about Atlantis.

    If atlas did shrug. The people at the top would soon realise how unnecessary and unimportant they really are. Their factories would run without them. Their assets would be redistributed as needed.

      Without the people on the top who worked hard to make money to have the factories built there wouldn't be factories in the first place there. Example.. the United States factories leaving to other countries. That's why the call the Midwest the RUST BELT because the people on top left. Oh PS: I never seen or heard a poor person create a job.
