My dog was heavily interested what all the scratchy sceaming from my tv was xD She even woke up alert to this hahaa. Tilting her head back and forth as it gets worse and worse.lol. Funniest thing I've seen in a long time.
Hi, Janice teacher =) remember me Elvis you're old student haha, very stunning tutorial how to belt out stoned cold cause i failed doing Stoned cold haha. I still doing alot of practice and exercises on my vocal, and currently have my own band now, and perform for open mic and went great so far, so i am proud and thankful for your teaching and giving me all the tips. =)
+BrotherTune Hi Elvis! So nice to hear from you. I'm glad to know all is going well for you and that you're still keeping up the good work :) Would love to catch you in one of your shows...hopefully soon! Drop by for a student project again, we can work on getting a better hold on belting then. Take care and see you soon xx
I’ve finally found my mix but how do I correct my tone to flow more with my ‘chest’ register? Currently it still sounds like that nasty sound you mention
Hi janice! your videos helped me alot but i always have a few problem that i still cant solve. its difficult for me during the transition from my mix voice to head voice. i always hv tingling feeling in my throat and end up coughing badly.
If you have a tingling feeling in your, it often means that you're pulling up your chest voice - try singing from your head to chest voice instead (high to low range) and get used to building a strong transition through your mix that way and then try ascending again :)
Hi!! I have a question and I'd like you to answer it please. I've been lookingo for trips to belt and I found that I need to have minimum air flow, don't get too loud and good suport. Well, thebmn I see singers as Demi Lovato who sings and belts notes with power and resonance. So, if I sing with minimum air flow and minimum volum, how can I get this resonance and that power? Thanks :)
Hi Maria, To belt, we must add a “twang" to the voice (that nasty sound I demonstrated), which is piercingly loud. Which means, we cannot really belt softly, and the best way to identify if you’re belting or not is if you have that “piercing” quality to the sound that you’re making. So in regards to what you mentioned… Minimum Air Flow: Yes, we don’t want too much air released through our vocal cords as we belt. This is so that our vocal cords can come together & vibrate as they have to, to phonate properly. When too much air is released, the vocal cords are usually forced apart, which will only cause the voice to crack, or breathiness, strain & etc. Don’t Get Too Loud: This is not true. You cannot belt without getting loud. In fact, with belting, it has to get piercingly loud (because it requires the twang), although how piercingly loud you go, is controllable (it doesn’t have to be over piercing). If you are already singing loud but still can’t hit the high notes, it is likely that you’re not using the right vocal register (not using your head voice) and/or you’re using another vocal gear, Anchor - which is a loud gear too, but it can only be used from your chest voice to your high mix (not the head voice, as with the belting parts in this song). Good Support: This is a sure thing, no matter what Vocal Gear you use, as it’s a fundamental in singing. To get that power & resonance that you want with your voice, there are couple of things to watch out for: Good breath support (do more breath control & support exercises to build muscle endurance) You’re using the front of your vocal mask (singing and letting your voice resonance more at the front of your vocal mask rather than at the back) - we already to this the moment we add the twang Biting on the ‘twang’ more - perhaps I’ll do another video on this…I didn’t explain this in the video as this was a quick 3-step on how to belt, there’s just so much more to it! :) Hope that answers your question! Have fun!
Hi Marie, I checked out your 2 songs on youtube...what a lovely voice you've got! :) It's hard for me to give any comments on how to improve your belting/mixed belting just based on those songs though. So far, it sounds to me like you’re already using the twang in your voice as you sing (as required in belting), though not in full volume. It also sounds like you’re using the Vocal Gear, “Cry” in most of your mix notes - which is a medium volume gear, and it sounds great for the type of songs you’re singing. Kim Burrell does this a lot too in a her gospel singing when singing through her mix - it sounds great. But of course, for the very high notes, she switches to Belt. In short, what I mean to say is, for the range that you’re singing in those songs at the moment, you don’t necessarily have to belt out the mix notes (the volume seems suitable as it is), but if you’re gonna sing any higher notes or you simply wanna increase volume in those mix notes you’re singing now (you wanna belt them out), you just really need to bite into the twang (the nasty sound) a little more and the volume will come out much louder. Also, you can watch out for the shape of your vowels while you’re at it, because the shape of the vowel often dictates which gear we’d be singing in - you can follow the example in the video on how to shape your vowels to stay in Belt.

Hi Janice. I was wondering how you achieve the difference between belt and cry? Is it just volume? Or is it a different coordination altogether?
Is the belting used here, has vocal twang?
