Great work Aleksandra, Dr. Abels had great insights into the regulatory and clinical landscape! How do we as researchers and innovators in the digitial pathology field advocate for policy and legislation that supports the clinical adoption of new technologies and advancements? Funding like SBIRs support translation from the bench top to the initial user but don't seem to give a clear path towards clinical adoption. Would be great to get your insight!
Hi Peter, I always think any step is better than no step - general regulatory approvals/ medical device clearances are huge steps, but any lab can work on an internal validation of a system they want to use - be it scanned slides for consultations, live remote microscopy with a microscope camera - anything. I know that on my own, I cannot move huge stones (a great team with many members with great expertise and influence are needed), so I choose the little things I can do - in my case, what I can do at scale is promote digital pathology in the scientific community and share the information. In my day to day job it is insisting that me work continues to be digital even when I change locations or departments. Everyone is at a different stage of this digital pathology journey (including people using their phones for informal consultations and social media education which I am a big fan of:). Where do you stand regarding your digital pathology journey?
@@aleksandrazurawpathology I see a significant issue with the regulation and clearance of multiplex imaging technologies, such as those from 10X Genomics, and AKOYA. I sent you an email requesting your help with a class in digital pathology informatics.
I use digital pathology images to diagnose tissue inflammation benign tumor / malignant. I want to be in your team and contribute my bit. I did fellowship in Dermatopathology with Bernie Ackerman as my program director. I diagnose digital Dermatopathology Uropathology and gynaepathology EQA images in UK.
Thank you so much Madhu for your enthusiasm! I am currently not providing any diagnostic services you could help with, but every like, share and comment on a video helps brings it to more people, so I appreciate this very much!
Esther you are a star
She definitely is :)
It is really exciting
Thank you so much Madhu!
