this band is the reason why i began playing the guitar, i have never ever heard a guitar play so deep, slow and powerful like obituary. the end complete was the first CD i heard. my friends didn't like at all and started laughing at me, that was in 1992. now you can see lots of death metal bands so it's not that weird.
"Obituary's "The End Complete" is crowned the best selling pure death metal album ever released, selling over 100,000 copies in the US, and over a quarter million worldwide. Also, the new Obituary logo (as can be seen on "The End Complete") has been considered Roadrunner's best selling shirt print in it's history." via metal archives. ^Proof of the awesome.
In my opinion this is their best album, it really outstands from the others. The songwriting is top notch, the tones are so fucking heavy, the production is great... Even the album cover fits perfectly for the music. They really hit the nail on the head on this album.
+Jorge Leitner This is the album that sold me on death metal back when the heaviest thing I listened to was Iron Maiden. The freaking vocals are still insane.
Keith Cambra Yeah, true. I know that many people considere Cause of Death or Slowly We Rot with much bigger consideration, but like I said, this is my favorite Obituary album, it stands out to me in every single way.
Currently I would say Cause of Death but I feel like this album could definitely be a favorite of many fans, the guitar tone in Cause just seems to be a bit more sludgy but the vocals here are perfect
***** Yeah, I mean, everybody says Cause of Death is the best album, and I can understand why they say that. It's a great album for sure. But I personally always liked this one a lot more.
I bought this when it came out that in the days of the cassette tape. I use to play this album all the time. My parents never understood metal. My moms says in Metal they don't sing they chant lol. I'm now 37 this is some the best music long live Obituary
Obituary, its been a while, your music is still solid as fuck. Despite all the basic riffs I hear, you guys know how to make them still sound good. This song is so fucking good it makes me want to smash my head through this monitor and continue head banging with the obliterated screen around my neck while beating up cow with my guitar.
+MiiLkyToKes67 I don't get why people hate on obituary for their simplicity ( not saying that you are). That is the way these dudes play, the sound they have built a legacy on.... not all music has to be 300 beats per minute shredding to be heavy metal. In my eyes, death metal is perfect when they let the music do the talking, those heavy tones, that solid beat, it all comes together into one end result that is absolutely fucking heavy! I just saw obituary for the first time the other week and they absolutely KILLED cannibal corpse when comparing performances. These dudes know what they do best, and they do it well. cannibal corpse, like most bands, is trying to play as crazy and technical as possible, which always ends up sounding worse than just laying waste with doom. in music, less is more. Obituary is the best death metal band to come from florida in the early days, no questions asked. them and morbid angel kill the rest
The modern wanky tech death bands really need to take note here. Sweep picking and generic vocals doesn't make your song good. Death, Autopsy, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, all wrote good songs with out being overly technical.
NickTheCritic1 Exactly! They had their own styles of technicality and improved their own styles, not just the sweeping and annoyingly over technical BS. Schuldiner and Azagthoth in particular out of these bands you named impressed me most as time went/goes on.
DEATH ARE THE TECHNICAL DEATH MASTERS// YES OBITUARY ARE NOT OVERLY TECHNICAL, YET THEY ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS// I DO NOT AGREE ON YOUR COMMENT ABOUT DEATH// imho
I just drank beers with these boys on their bus, music was trevors ipod, golden earing, Venom and Celtic Frost. These guys are such fucking great sports. and my god did they sound good.
God, this *entire* album is incredible. I actually never heard of it until I found the original 1992 LP in my dad's records some weeks ago. It was in the "meh" section of his collection, between some really crap 90s house and pop stuff. Needless to say I just stole it without thinking too much 😂
El título es el ideal: en este disco están en su mejor momento. El mejor sin dudas. Pero aguante Obituary carajo, siempre van a tener algo bueno que ofrecer!
guys! compare the closing riff with the closing riff of Slayer's Skeletons of Society - I wonder if it's too similar or not... :P None the less, best album by Obituary, hats off before this album!!!
just bought slowly we rot, world demise, the best of obituary, and frozen in time...i think this will be the next album...pure fukin brutality!!!all hail the mighty fukin obituary!!!
@Roflauncher I know alot of people that specifically like those two types of music, I think it's because they both keep it real just in different ways if you know what I mean.
Bought the tape in '92 as a teenager. Still listening to it at 40
YEAH! best younger years. we are the same age \m/
sirlordwhitman I was 14 when I first heard this...36 now and it brings back many memories.
sirlordwhitman me too
Still listening to this at 92
Me too man
Obituary has got one of the greatest logos in Death Metal.
Obituary, early Sepultura and Death have the best logos for me.
i like how they play the last riff over and over
Yah the best music of them!
I love how the pauses alternate in placement
I still remember playing it on my BC RICH innovator bass those were great days
Obituary kind of crossover into doom metal sometimes. They go for that groovy mid tempo riff.

Your friends were lame
Great band, also love their cover art of landscapes

Most people never catch how beautiful this music is. These songs make my day.

Brandon Siefert Plus after all that power chord simplicity, they always hit you with one of the most amazing leads you've ever heard before

NickTheCritic1 I agree but tech death is great as well as long as it’s not too generic
NickTheCritic1 /// NICK OBITUARY IS ALSO ON THE GOOD LIST///
Cannibal Corpse is very technical and always have been
DEATH ARE THE TECHNICAL DEATH MASTERS// YES OBITUARY ARE NOT OVERLY TECHNICAL, YET THEY ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS// I DO NOT AGREE ON YOUR COMMENT ABOUT DEATH// imho
