  • NEUMES is a newly created project which brings together 3 long-standing members of London's alternative music and experimental scenes: Monchan Monna (Bo Ningen - drums), Dee Sada (An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump / Blue On Blue - vocals, piano and guitar) and Koichi Yamanoha (Grimm Grimm - electronics).
With Monchan and Koichi hailing from Japan and Dee hailing originally from Nepal/India, all 3 musicians consider London as their home. Their name NEUMES, which means the basic element of Western and Eastern systems of musical notation, pays homage to the band's international and London-based backgrounds.
Playing their first ever live show at Cafe OTO in London in April 2019, NEUMES have recently recorded at 4AD's in-house studio with engineers Fabian Prynn (4AD/Ex:Re) and Jonas Verwijnen (Kaiku Studios). The band have also played a live session for the Hello Goodbye show on Resonance FM.
THIS VIDEO IS THE SONG ‘VAPOUR’ from their 3rd live show together in support for Colin Stetson, at The Round Chapel in London UK on the 30th October 2019.
Their songs explore a wide range of themes such as belongingness, the notion of self-identity in current political climes and fractured relationships. In short, NEUMES are questioning themselves, the environment around them and whether hope can triumph over deep feelings of futility.
