    The 1st episode in the Game Theory playlist on the Prisoners Dilemma: • Game Theory
    In this video we introduce our first major category of game that we will study in Game Theory called Normal Form Games. These are games between a finite number of players, with each player having a finite number of options, and then a defined payoff for every possible set of chosen actions. The Prisoners Dilemma we saw previously is an example of a normal form game, as is good old Rock-Paper-Scissors. We will also see two more examples, one I call Hawk vs Dove, and one I call Sushi vs Thai. Each game can be represented by a payoff matrix. In the next episode we will discuss more about how to find optimal strategies to play Normal Form games, and if optimal strategies even exist!

    I've never seen vector as matrix entries before. It feels like a 3-dimensional array of numbers.

      It is a kinda cool structure! Ultimately an array can contain anything, even other arrays!

    Also, I might consider getting a Brilliant subscription. I still have my math and science textbooks but they only do so much for refreshing my skills. Brilliant sounds like it has practice quizzes and exams which I need to test what I'm learning.

    In the game of sushi vs Thai, both players have symmetric payoffs which leads to a deadlock, unless they each eat alone at their favorite restaurant.🙂

      I actually don’t have a great suggestion as game theory texts are all over the place and sort of depends whether one wants proofs/rigour or more an economics flavor etc

    Sir, i have some problem in Frobenius method when the inditial roots differ by an integer. Why the method is different from when the roots differ by a non-integer?

    Will it give any valuable insight into the game properties if, instead of using a pair of numbers, (x, y), in a payoff matrix, we use a single complex one, x + iy?

      I don’t think so. In terms of encoding the information, those are the same. The question is whether the complex structure reflects something naturally where Cartesian points don’t (ie that you can multiply complex numbers). I don’t see why it would in this case

    It depends on how often you go out to eat and when you should negotiate. If you go out to eat once a week, perhaps you and your wife can go to a Sushi restaurant on Sunday for example and the following Sunday you both can go to a Thai restaurant.

      We actually will cover this idea of iterated games (i.e. the same game is played many times in a row) a little later on in the series.

      Indeed. There are several earlier contributions going back into even the 16th century I believe with people doing reasoning analogous to some of the reasoning in the foundations of game theory, but Nuemann definitely put it all together, and then Nash came in afterwards.

      @@DrTrefor thank you for that info. He has been popping up in my studying lately. I thought I might have heard a mention of his involvement in economics in passing. I was taking a deep dive into to The Shannon Index, and his name popped up here also. Shannon Index is used in diversity for ecology, looks like Entropy. I was helping a Bio Grad student with some math. I didn't realize Von Neumann had a hand in this also. What a Titian.
      Thank you for you efforts. I'm guessing it takes real work to produce these. Your videos are amazing and enjoyable to watch.

      I still want to (and earlier suggested I would on this channel)....but....uh...things happened:D And now I"m not sure if it will happen in entirety. This game theory playlist is actually part of my typical course on modelling, so I think I'm going to release segments but not as an entire playlist, at least for now.

      Start by volume 1 and follow by volume 2, then procede through the number system ad nauseam

    Courses -> plural noun -> you use "are", not "is" -> the end result is "there are so many more courses", not "there is".
    Aren't you from an english speaking country?
