  • Our old fridge died so we purchased a new Kitchenaid counter depth fridge with french doors and a bottom freezer. This particular fridge is 20 cubic feet which is smaller than the typical non-counterdepth refrigerators. Being American made the Kitchenaid Refrigerator has a good reputation as a well made appliance. Since this is a Stainless steel fridge, we bought AFFRESH cleaner for the stainless steel.

We're on 26 years with our KitchenAid and still kicking ass. I had to replace the ice maker this year so that's 26 years with the same ice maker amazing. I had to change the power switch out which is a $2.95 part about 5 years ago I had to put a little motor in for a fan that works in the freezer I think with labor the guy charged me $150 so total all in I'm just about $250 or so for 26 years That's really good The refrigerator when I bought it in 1995 cost $5,000 that was crazy. Now the same refrigerator cost around $10,000 so spending $250 is well worth it. You go kitchen Aid you're the best

Repair parts for these are pretty widely available and are common between a few lines, so that's nice.
The door seals/ gaskets will wear out and tear within about 2 - 3 years. It's a design flaw from the way they overlap and conflict during about half of the door openings, especially at the top and bottom "ears" on the gaskets. A pair of new ones costs around $300; they're easy to install, just be sure to warm them up before installing.
Depending on humidity where you live, the unit will start to leak on the floor after about 2 - 3 years. It'll be accumulated ice on the low-pressure coil that freezes over the drain plug. You'll need to chip it off the coil, blow a hair dryer on it, or unplug the fridge for about 2 days to let it thaw. That'll fix it for another 2 - 3 years. I don't think the issue has a permanent fix; it's a flaw in the defrosting feature of the coil and the placement and design of the condensation drain.
The freezer handle tends to loosen over time, because each pull out also tends to pull up a little, and therefore tends to twist the handle slightly.
The freezer drawer doesn't do a good job of catching ice and frost that fall off of items in the freezer, so after opening and closing the drawer, you might get some ice or frost on the floor.
The button on the water dispenser requires two hands (glass and button). If they'd have put that damned button below the spout, you'd be able to get water with one hand. Also, having the dispenser inside the fridge might give a "clean look", but more importantly, it greatly increases the unit's efficiency (because there's not a big, uninsulated hole in the fridge 24 hrs per day).

I have the 5 door Kitchenaid that sells for around 4K,. Gorgeous but it was 4.5 years old and the control board just went bad. $550 repair. first the lights went out, then the screen didn't work and then the cooling was working intermittently The tech that diagnosed it said this is a very common problem for Kitchenaid. His advice was less features less things to go wrong. He also mentioned that Kitchenaid is also starting to stop making replacement parts

Red border around your video thumbnails is a terrible idea. Makes me think I already watched the video when I see a red bar at the bottom.
