You know what the real crazy thing is? She was wearing a pasty/shield that covered the actual nipple. This whole drama happened when there was no actual nudity. I can understand why it was traumatic for Janet, of course, but the rest of the world was very dumb about it.
Since you're so young, it might be hard to imagine how huge Janet was before 2004 and how this destroyed her career for decades (it's likely a factor in her hit single streak coming to an end and record sales stalling). I think her consistent tours have helped keep her career going but her recording career was severely impacted.
The thing which really solified the multiple nails in the coffin for me, was after Britney released that statement about her book apologizing to him and praising his music, his response was to go on stage and say something akin to "first i gotta apologize... to absolutely f'n nobody" and Britney did a follow up post on her IG about what he did. He just had so many chances, so much grace given to him, yet he throws it back in people's faces, its screwed up and tbh are we missing anything by not listening to his new music?
Ever since Michael Jackson checked him for trying to outdo Michael at Michael's 40th anniversary he's been a dick Also he literally took Jc Chasez singing style and his look
He really gives me the vibe of "but she is the one who cheated!". Yeah she is. Get over it privately and be professional publicly. The times really turned against him and I am glad
The reason Justin became the most popular member of NSync was bc of his relationship with Britney bc they became like the teen dream power couple and used their breakup to launch his solo career
No he was mainly seen as the most talented member of nsync since they began so yeah. That was why. I was a huge fan of both when I was younger of them but I didn’t even know until I was like an adult that he even dated Britney Spears. It wasn't put on blast as much as it would be today. Though imagine it helped don't get me wrong. Justin was also doing like side acting jobs where he would just have like smaller rolls in so he kind of established himself and those areas as well so he’s just had more exposure because of that as well.
@@ang3lica2kNo offense, but I call bs. #1. Everyone knew that he was dating Britney Spears. So if you were as big of a fan as you say that you were, you would have known that. I didn't even like Britney Spears back then, nor boy bands bands, and I even knew about them dating. #2. You can definitely attribute his career taking off due to his breakup with Britney seeing that the VERY FIRST song/video released on his solo album was the song "Cry Me a River" and had a very obvious Britney Spears look alike in the video. He did the same thing with the next album with the song "What Goes Around" and again had a look alike Britney Spears being played by Scarlett Johansson. It wasn't until YEARS, probably like 10+ years later did he finally come out and say that the "What Goes Around" video wasn't about Britney Spears, but it was about a close friend of his, and their relationship/breakup. Saying that it was in fact Elisha Cuthbert that it was about, and not Britney. But the damage had already been done to Britney. She released the song "Everytime" as a sort of apology video to his and their relationship, when in reality, he should have been the one to apologize to her for cheating on her several times while they dated, encouraging her to get an abortion, and then breaking up with her because she kissed someone. Not even close to his indiscretions. Before you go and defend him, he's a serial cheater. He cheated on Cameron Diaz, and he cheated on his wife Jessica Biel with his co-star Alisha Wainwright and with Olivia Munn. Pictures are online and not hard to find, as well as the interview with Olivia talking about her affair with Justin and how he had led her on.
no tf it wouldn't, y'all literally forget he has a strong core fanbase. full of a lot of black people, sine he literally made a full on successful RnB album like me. he been traveling with a completely black band on shows and tours for over a decade. his close friend is literally gay. whom he's been supportive of since they were teens. probablythe worst take throughout the whole video.
@yungaj6166 part of going right wing grifter is separating yourself from the old fans and friends. Doesn't matter who likes him now, racist boomers will still spend money if he goes right wing
As a 90s kid that lived the boy band craze era, what a time to be alive lol. Nipplegate in retrospective is so mild compared to what is shown on TV now. It’s sad Janet Jackson’s music career wasn’t the same afterwards.
it was mild compared to what was allowed on tv *then.* the backlash was pure misogynoir in the context of post-9/11 conservative "values" bullshit on a conservative-adjacent stage.
Jackson already had been successful for almost 20 years. I think Nipplegate merely expedited the process of how much Jackson’s popularity was already waning. She was almost 40 by then and her act was getting tired both musically and image-wise.
@@RocStarr913 she definitely could’ve had several more hits and her music trajectory would’ve gone differently if she had still been an in demand pop star. We’ll never truly know how much she was impacted, but her 2004 album still sold almost 400K first week despite the Super Bowl, so she clearly still had some gas left in the tank.
@@foxesamu Damita Jo sucked though and 20 YO was hardly any better. The singles off both of those albums were hardly impressive and plus, she was getting older and younger performers got more attention with young people. “Just A Little While” alone sucked as a single, “I Want You” didn’t have the traditionally pop Janet sound, “All Nite” was just subpar and flat, “Call On Me” sounded too much like a Nelly song, and “So Excited” sounded awful riding the Herbie Hancock “Rockit” vinyl scratching sample. Her music was already becoming gimmicky for a while and diminishing returns were setting in a bit even before Nipplegate. The All For You singles mostly rode off of samples of old singles. Damita Jo only sold as much as it did because plenty of people already knew who Janet was and because the controversy did boost the amount of attention she had to a degree.
A lot of people dont realise how huge Janet Jackson was at the time. I dont know if its because a lot of the yt youtubers who touch on this topic were to young at the time or dont really know Janets impact on music like that. The whole super bowl incident compleatly ruined her carrier and it was never really the same, even till this day you can tell. I would say within the black community she is still respected and revered, but I would say within the mainstream audience she kind of just dissapered. Good video, but a bit to kind at that part. Hes also had way more racist incidents in the past that was completly missed in this video.
Yeah I suspect most yt youtubers don't even bother to do research on how big Janet's career was before the incident - I bet most of them don't even try to listen to her acclaimed albums to see why she's the blueprint for so many pop artists today. Anyway, while this was a good video I feel like Kayla missed out some important details about Justin and instead presented a kinder perspective on what he's done. I think it's only the black youtubers who can truly call out Justin.
@@mariaviana8424that’s not true Janet did world tours. She was as big a Beyoncé is now and more mysterious. She had a family name and Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis behind her. After the Super Bowl she retreated and that was a shame.
@@mariaviana8424 Uhhhh 👀 I grew up in new Zealand and Janet Jackson was huge like huge huge in terms of pop music. She actually has had sustained her career internationally more so then she did in America after that incident.
There is a recent video clip from his first performance this year, I think in NYC, and he made a statement on stage saying, “I’d like to take the opportunity to apologize to absolutely f***ing NOBODY.” The way people in crowd CHEERED was absolutely astonishing. This proves he was absolutely not f***ing remorseful for his actions.
Besides the Super Bowl, him bragging about taking Britney’s virginity when that was a huge part of her squeaky clean image (AND she wasn’t even a virgin at the time) was truly gross. 🤮
He was just doing what many male celebrities of the time were doing. This was the era of lad magazines like Maxim and Stuff and it was arguably a much more crudely macho climate in the celebrity and media culture.
@@kylew9454 You can’t change the past. What is politically correct tomorrow wasn’t always politically correct yesterday. I’d rather judge Timberlake presently on his new music, which admittedly isn’t all that great now. Some of the songs on the new album either should have been tinkered with more lyrically or just never should’ve saw the light of day.
I never realized what a creep Justin is until I read Jessica Simpson's book. According to her, when they were auditioning for the Mickey Mouse show together, Justin made a bet with Ryan Gosling that he'd be the first one to kiss her. Years later, after her divorce from Nick, Justin was over at her house one night and they kissed. Justin immediately took out his phone to text Ryan that he won the bet. They were 12 when they made that bet so this was over a decade later. Justin was an immature player through and through.
JC is now my new fav from *NSYNC idk why but when I was little I thought Justin was to die for or something (lol) now all these years later I realize JC is not only better-looking but had the better voice too if Justin didn’t use Britney and their relationship he wouldn’t be that big JC deserved to be the breakout star of *NSYNC more than JT so I say #justiceforjcchasez 🫶🏻💕

Britney praised his new music and offered him an olive branch and he shaded her ago . And this was what .. 2-3 weeks ago. Then Britney posted on Instagram a cryptic post that basically said f you , I take it back. And something about “if there’s an issue let’s take it to the playground “ . So no, I wouldn’t say that him and Britney are on good terms .
He's not directly referred to her in any capacity in several years. The not apologizing thing was to her fans, who harass him for an apology he already made in 2021. He shouldn't have to keep seeking forgiveness just because people feel like it or because people are upset Britney's life is a mess and want to take it on someone who's doing well.
@@Delena00 People want to blame him for everything bad what happened to her after their split😏Broke ups are usally hard, lol.💔,but later she had even worse experiences, I think (such as divorce with her husband Kevin Federline, "postpartum" depression and being pernamently chasing by papparazzi📷📸) Then she lost custody of her kids👶🧒and they been took away from her. All of this, I think, finally leaded her to total "break down",when she shaved head👴and "landed" in hospital few times🏨. It happened in 2007,while she split with Justin in 2002. Why would she shave her head just 5 years after break up,lol.🤔😉No,there were another reasons (which I mentioned above😏)
Hiii "elder millennial" here who actually lived through Justin's career from N'sync onwards- I want to make a small correction and say that while Justin was popular during the 20/20 experience it absolutely paled in comparison to the cultural impact of future sex love sounds. That album was considered groundbreaking and had a lot of critical acclaim that legitimized Justin and had people comparing him to Michael Jackson and calling him the greatest artist of our time. 20/20 experience was just a cool album with a lot of hits but didn't have the impact FSLS did- the misperception might be due to recency bias but I had to stop the video and correct this misconception. Love your content!
The way he left her hanging is why I dislike him so much .....he wanted to sound black so bad but when it was time for him to stand by a sister he abandoned her ..and he brought sexy back to nowhere because Beyonce,.rhianna and jayz and drake and.the weeknd surpassed kkkulture vulture Justin timberland I mean lake sorry..
@@onedayatatime1494You couldn’t realistically expect Timberlake to stick out his neck that much for Jackson. He did his best at the time, but Jackson pretty much told him privately already not to worry about it. Jackson already was popular for almost 20 years and that was bound to fade eventually. Her music had become sample-laden and gimmicky and so did her sexual image. Pop music notoriously skews young and is fickle. Nipplegate didn’t make that much of an impact on Jackson’s career. She was already on the wane commercially.
@RocStarr913 no she wasn't , and her career shouldn't have been derailed like it was over something someone else did to her its not like she unzipp Justin timberland I mean lake ..and pulled out his thing he ripped her shirt and grabbed her , and he doesn't get in trouble at all ....there's something racist about this situation and it's so obvious and if u can't see it then u stupid...
I think it's important to mention that Britney took back her apology to him after a video went viral of him performing in a show and saying that he apologized to "absolutely f*cking nobody". I was a huge JT fan until he said that. I could understand that he made mistakes while he was young and while he hurt Britney, I don't think that was his intention, I thought he learned and he was truly apologetic, especially after the Free Britney movement and I thought his apology was heartful but now, I just think he's full of sh*t. He's acting like a child that is upset because people aren't accepting his apology and moving on so now is like "F*ck you, I'm not sorry after all". What a man-child!
That viral video recontextualizes everything. It makes it seem that he knew Britney was gonna put all the bullshit he's done in her book, and that his publicist was like "hey, apologize, get on top of it" and he released his apology in the hopes that Britney would redact that part of the book. And then she didn't, so he got butthurt.
@@jordynsutton6074It's not about singing ability, it's about grace and courtesy - which the SNL remark shows he is lacking - especially given she apologised to him, for simply recounting his own conduct!
As a Black woman, I think I can weigh in with my opinion, And his appropriation and "blackccent" (mocking AAVE) and treatment of Black women are unforgivable. It could be argued "It happens all the time!" but that doesn't make it okay in the slightest. He's wrong for that and his apology doesn't seem genuine. Maybe he felt tired of being called out for it and tried to sell a fake apology. He's a white man in a position of power and as usual and unfortunately, his appropriation doesn't surprise me.
Amen! As a black woman, I second your sentiments. I remember how he was so cringe in the 90's, pretending he was so hood and "down." I never fell for his act.
I would love Janet Jackson to make a comeback! I know she's doing a tour now but I would love to see new music from her if she wanted to. My primary issue with the narrative that Nipplegate was planned is that if you rewatch the clip you can very clearly see her surprised that her breast was exposed and quickly moved to cover up. Also she looked to be wearing a pasty which would make sense if the original idea was to just rip off the black part of the costume to reveal the bra. Justin Timberlake literally could have said anything other than "we're glad to give you guys something to talk about" because that's such a gross statement considering she was basically forced to go on a media campaign to apologize as if JT was never involved. She legitimately slayed the Super Bowl with All for You and Rhythm Nation way before Justin in his average joe clothes showed up. A selfish part of me would love to see Janet do the halftime show again but I understand if she didn’t want to after how she was treated. I've seen clips of her performing recently and she's still got it!
You should really look into how Justin Timberlake prevented the career of his other band mates, specifically JC Chasez. Would be an interesting deepdive!
jc's lack of solo success doesn't have shit to do with justin. jc's solo album was intended to be a side project, not necessarily made for mainstream success. that aside, the record label still messed up his album rollout and they are the sole reason for him not having more attention (delays, lack of budget, poor single choices and promotion). justin even wrote a song with jc intended to be the first single for his unreleased second album called "until yesterday" and invited jc to perform it at his own concert in 2006. justin's known jc for 30 years and respects him greatly. he will be the first to tell you jc's a better singer than him!
@@kamfrusciante Thank you for saying this! People are really acting as if Justin maliciously blocked the other guys careers, when that is far from the truth. @@talia-rosed that's how most labels work. justin was a cash cow for jive at the time, of course they would put more backing towards him over jc. it's a shitty practice, but it's not justin's fault his music was gaining traction. also, the first single from schizophrenic was released months after justin's last single from justified. their album rollouts had no overlap, jive just wasn't confident in jc's project and that's sad, but again, not justin's fault. regarding jc's pro bowl performance getting cancelled, if it was any artist who was gonna perform songs as risqué as 'some girls dance with women,' or 'blowin me up (with her love),' they most likely would've been axed as well because of the nfl wanting to keep a clean image following the super bowl incident. jc's association with justin was merely a coincidence. they literally offered him to do the national anthem instead, but he refused. justin and their manager johnny wright definitely should've told the rest of the band that he wasn't going to return sooner, that i agree on, but i think that was more out of cowardice than malice. i do think there was a plan for justin to return to *nsync, and he repeated as such in promotion for his solo album. however, the response to justified was way too big for justin to go regress in a fading niche (boy bands) instead of moving forward in his solo endeavors.
@@talia-rosedand guess what JC literally said on LIVE television Justin called as soon as he heard the news, and apologized to him saying that he had no idea that it would affect JC in anyway. him and JC are literally the closet out if the guys but y'all insist on creating a rivalry.
i don’t know this man but he just seems so fake to me. using black artists and producers to make your music good and then completely turning your back on janet as the media was slaughtering her is gross. also letting your ex gf get slut shamed repeatedly just to promote your own album is double gross.
Yeah I feel so bad for his wife (even though she married him) I think he abuses her too (like he did Brit) and I hope she will divorce him and ask for not only alimony but child support (because who keeps performing a song about a dead/aborted child after it was revealed that the song was about a dead/aborted child?) 😭😭😭😭

"Dance for me " was written for Michael Jackson he turned it down And he damn well knew that , it's why he sang it with Janet We all owe Britney and Janet an apology for how we all trashed them and propped up Justin
You also forgot that after she plugged his song and apologized if it hurt anyone… he proceeded to do his free concert the next day and preludes “cry me a river” with “I’d like to take a moment to apologize… to absolutely FU@KING NOBODY” and that’s why he continues to suck
That diss song pisses me off. Timberland should be ashamed, too. I'm not even a big Prince fan, but the dude was a creative genius, a all around good guy, and they were nowhere near his level. As the meme goes, "the audacity"
The CAUCASITY!! He had the caucasity to do a hologram of Prince too after Prince specifically made it clear he didn't want that. It was so disrespectful of JT
Oh good lord I forgot he went into acting for a while 😂😂 5:44 wasn’t this the reason UA-cam was created or something?? Ugh I remember that moment so much..poor Janet..
I'm pretty sure after that Britney took her apology down and posted something about how he cried like a lil baby to his mom when she beat him at basketball.
@@LadyKittybug Actually, she took the apology down before he said he wasn't sorry. Very common misconception that pisses me off about this whole situation. That could've also possibly made him butthurt.
What did you expect Timberlake to do? Boycott the whole entertainment industry? He had his own livelihood to think about. Janet made poor choices. She could have just apologized to Les Moonves and she chose to have an ego about it. It also didn’t help that Janet did privately tell Timberlake that he shouldn’t worry about Nipplegate. She basically let him off the hook long ago.
Love the channel! Slight correction: Pharrell and Chad Hugo (the Neptunes) were also main producers on ‘Justified’ and they produced a couple hit tracks on *NSYNC’s ‘Celebrity’ album
Great video. One thing though. You were right about Timbaland giving him musical credibility, but he also got a ton of that from working with Pharrell Williams/The Neptunes around the same time.
I’m Britney Army so I don’t like Justin Timbersnake (erm I mean Justin Timberlake) very much he always has to bring Britney to everything and I even saw an article that he’s gonna maybe do a tell-all interview about Britney with Oprah and if he takes Oprah up on it I will hate him forever 🙂
I’m 35, so of course Nsync, BSB, Britney and Cristina Aguilera were my life back then. They all defined my teenage years and my taste in music. I loved Justin so much, but as i got older i started to see all of those things you explained. He is very talented but his career was made because of what happened with Britney and I can’t unsee it now.
I was the same like you. Even like CMAR when it first came out even though of the content of and how he portrayed her look-alike. Although I still like her as well. I think what make that song and video worse is that he a serial cheater throughout his relationship with Britney and yet it seems his ego couldn't handle her doing to him what he done to her. I can only guess that Britney not personally knowing or being close to his numerous hook-ups compare to him having a close bond and friendship with the guy was something he didn't like. And yet even with that happening, his form on being monogamous didn't change when you consider it a written cause in a contract with his wife. Sadly it only acknowledge by some about Britney's indiscretions and JT can do no wrong in that department when it has been talk about and shown that's he's not a faithful guy!!
Apparently the Neptunes songs in particular were meant for Micheal Jackson. "Rock Your Body" could've been a huge hit for MJ compared to the ok "You Rock My World"
Are celebrity public apologies enough? Not for any one of us to say. In cases like Justin's, it's on Janet and Britney to say if his apology was enough. Who deserves a shining comeback? Janet, full stop.
she has said that she’s not returning to music though. I can’t blame her. she wouldn’t have gone through all this trauma had she not had a music career
He and them likely are not interested in doing a reunion tour unless there is sufficient interest in them making new music, which there doesn’t seem to be at this point.
Man, as a black girl, Justin Timberlake is just pathetic💀 Also, YES!!!!!! Nelly Furtado!!! I love her too. ❤ Nice knowing there’s other people who adore her music like I do as I felt shitty earlier. I’ve been struggling to properly listen to Give It To Me and the entirety of Loose even because of Timbaland and JT’s bad attitude, but now I’m learning to separate the artist from the artist from the artist from the art. I own the Album Whoa, Nelly as a gift from my mom for my 16th birthday to show how much her music meant to her and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

@@ieatgremlins Exactly. And who TF would compare Beyoncé to Furtado??? They have completely different careers. Besides, it’s actually an advantage if Furtado has less steamers than Beyonce because that means less slander, and less “overrated” comments.
It's been so weird watching this story develop in real time, one month he deeply apologizes to Britney, then the next one i guess he saw the memes of the Michelle Williams audiobook, the cringey rap he did when he was younger (and some stiff dance more recently), got angry and he says he takes it back, then he tell her to flip herself in some elderly concert with 50 people in attendance, he was obviously never that good of a guy
lol elderly concert. The “apology” was in 2021 when everyone was apologizing to Britney through PR statements. He never apologized for pressuring her to abort their child or for saying “yo yo yo fo shiz fo shiz” 😂
What’s funny is, Justin has done virtually everything possible to avoid confronting his past actions. Using both Britney and Janet’s controversies to elevate himself. He consistently downplayed his role in *NSYNC while the Backstreet Boys did the near opposite and tried to stay together or supportive of each other. Justin realized probably in the late 2008s that if he kept acting like a fusion of Michael Jackson and Nelly, he would become a product of time. This is why between 2007-2016 he embarked on a decade long endeavor to appear in movies just as much as he put out music. He infiltrated children’s shows and cartoons. He was in romantic comedies and action thrillers. Anything to stay relevant. But then came Man of the Woods in 2018. And *everyone woke the hell up* to Justin’s real level of atmosphere. Which was piss poor R&B on post Kanye West life support. Pair that with a marketing campaign that tired to actually sell fans *boots* and flannels. Like Justin had dug up the Lumbersexual fad from 2013/2014/2015 and put old Dad paint over it. Now we are here in 2024. Justin’s past actions combined with his efforts to avoid them have made him a product of time. He’s not seen as talented anymore. He’s seen a man who used Timbaland, cultures, and two women to blast a solo career upwards.
You might want to reword that. Justin is still considered an R&B legend and the prince of pop. Legendary albums with great songs, but people saw that he was just not really a good person. And MOTW failed because it was something new and different unlike his previous albums, so people hated it.
Timberlake’s real mistake with the Man Of The Woods album is that it was basically the same old music using a country gimmick that didn’t really stand up. It’s clear he became more focused on marketing himself rather than making interesting music. It also didn’t help that he was still working with producers he worked before like Timbaland and Pharrell.
@@yungaj6166 I thought they were just like pasties (underneath her brassiere) and JT accidentally ripped the whole thing off (the outfit just must’ve been made poorly tbh) ://
Funnily enough his shift from being a reference in Shrek 2 to a mostly forgettable and unlikable role in Shrek the Third was a pretty prescient forecast of the trajectory of his career.
14:13 - he only did this because the movie he was starring in called "Palmer" was right around the corner of being released - just like that time he "apologised" on MTV right before FSLS was about to drop, because he needed to win back the black audience he'd deservingly lost - everything with him has always come across as strategic.
I haven’t watched the video yet (just started), and for now i have to say that i am OBSESSED with Kayla’s little bread toast lamp in the background, the little face is sooooo cute
Jt had a ruthless momager who was planning his solo career since NSYNC made it . He rode off the coat tails of Britney and made a career out of doing this to a lot of ppl. Now, he thinks Oprah's coach will save him
@Delena00 all of those men were more talented enough to have a decent solo career the difference was the drive and cultural relevance they had and JT used his relationship with Britney because of how famous she was at the time. With how the entertainment industry is with women, the man who put them down always would come out on top. With all the bios I have scene about JT, his mother is absolutely crucial about how he used and abused all the people and women in his life to get to where he needs to. His mother was always a factor in that which why his fall was a long time coming.
I think that Justin was so good in "Social Network" because he played character very similar to his own: he would do whatever it takes to win and he doesn't look back at the other people, like it was with Janet and Britney. Such a bad person, can;t believe I liked him once.
I'd say the last piece of the puzzle for why people don't like Timberlake anymore is his 2018 album Man of the Woods. We've seen time and time again that artist's can survive PR disasters if the music is good. If he had gone through the FreeBritney reckoning/Britney Spears biography after an album at the caliber of Future Sex Love or The 20/20 Experience he could have maybe survived. But Man of the Woods was such an underbaked concept that everyone rejected immediately and is probably the start to when people found him cringy. It put him in a losing position.
This album was in "country" style little bit💿🎸,which is not so popular kind of music🎶 (like pop music or R`n`b 🎶🎛). I only recognize (and like😉) song "Say Something" from that album😉
It was because he became more focused on marketing than his actual music. He was working with the same people, Pharrell and Timbaland, doing Man Of The Woods and he suffered a diminishing of returns as a result. It’s clear that he lost real inspiration lyrically. He was already married with a child, so where would he go with lyrics?
My only Justin Timberlake story is the stupid 20/20 experience album came out the day i went to a new hair dresser and got my emo skunk hair. The hair dresser asked if I liked JT and I only knew sexy back and *NSYNC stuff so I said “he’s okay I guess” and she went on the play that album on repeat the entire appointment… I freaking hate that album from that experience only! 😂
Honestly, I would love if Ryan Ross would make a comeback. He is a very talented singer/songwriter and it would just be nice to hear more music from him.
Janet should make a comeback! She deserves love after what he put her through. Unrelated to the case, but fitting to the question at the end, I'd love to see Anastacia make a comeback. Technically she's super active, just really not known in the USA anymore, despite being an american singer and huge 2000s hit. Rest of the world loves her but her management messed up things.
@@ZionDoesMakeup Yeah, but Celine Dion always had a bigger and particularly much older audience and she’s always had a more conservative image. It’s different. Janet Jackson was still trying to be sexual and transgressive and appeal to teenagers and young adults around the time of Nipplegate. By the way, Celine Dion is actually two years younger than Janet.
For your last question, I would absolutely love for JoJo to make a comeback. She wrote SO MUCH music, all different genres, and none of it ever saw the light of day. Her story breaks my heart. It’s a great video topic if you haven’t done Jojo already
She’s already released lots of music since then. If she really was as great as people think she was, she would have had a hit again by now. Her record label screwed her.
The difference between an apology and accountability is that accountability comes with a change in behavior. We are supposed to learn from our past mistakes. His "apology" was a statement. There was never any accountability in any of it he said.
I don't believe that any of his apologies were honest. It was probably written by a PR team just to cool things off while he was being canceled online. The fact that he recently said in a concert "I would like to apologise to f*king nobody" proves it. Besides, wasn't he also canceled because he had an affair and chetead on his wife???
He's also repeatedly cheated on his wife, Jessica Biel. He used to seem relatable and down to earth, now he seems like a psychopathic schemer who took advantage of every situation presented to him and had no problem stepping on anyone to get what he wanted.
Also Justin allegedly cheated on his wife 4 years ago and there were pictures every of him holding hands with her. I think he even publicly apologized for having an inappropriate moment with someone but I can’t remember if he fully admitted to cheating.
The reason why his acting in The Social Network was so good was because he wasn't acting... Also, he is *allegedly* a serial cheater to this day. Ironic how one of his most popular songs is about how hurt he was by infidelity.
They never decided to break up. While on break unfortunately while JT was planning his exit the rest of the guys turned down gigs because they were under the impression they were going back to the studio. They were blindsided. He then dhit talked saying the guys werent as passionate as him. With JC, the true vocal talent of NSYNC as lead, NSYNC could have continued as 4 some. Thats I truly believe
Hope JC gets a comeback. As long as he gets good producers. I think people will favor him more than JT since people pissed at him more now. He's the better singer and better looking too.
I think nipplegate gets a lot of attention without the context. At that time, a lot of raunchy performances were happening before the Super bowl with more and more negative reactions. When this moment finally happened it opened up the flood gates. Regardless it was unfair how they treated Janet and honestly the entertainment industry owe her the biggest apology ever.
THANK YOU for talking about Timbaland and how his work is what drove the success of those albums. No one was doing what Timbaland was, is or ever will, and when most people talk about JT and his success with those albums, Timbaland is rarely mentioned. So thank you. You rule
Watching the documentary on Janet Jackson, the nipplegate case caused more harm to Janet because Les Moonves, the head of CBS, demanded that both come to his office and plead for his mercy. Justin did, Janet didn't. Moonves did everything in his power to ruin Janet's career as a result of that reason. While, Justin, got invited back to the Super Bowl. It was common knowledge in the industry that Les Moonves was a tyrant who viewed the incident as an insult to him specifically. Hence, the begging part in his office. After the incident, Janet appeared on Oprah's show and stated that they were friends. However, she also believed that Justin had disappointed her in this situation.
the first thing I remember about Justin being in is when he was being punk'd. They were pretending to take away or break his things and he starting to become worried called for help and cried a little bit (but not a river lol), but once the prank was over, he had this tough guy facade saying "aw das soo cold" "I was tryna not to whoop yo ass". The switch up was crazy
Kayla you always miss Info on these especially when it deals to recent events . He literally shaded her again after she offered an olive branch by dancing to his song & giving a compliment. L
With the Janet issue it's not that he didn't defend her, he distanced himself and said things that implied it was bc of her. His wording and vibe was more "it wasn't me". Coupled with his trying feign disgust just made it seem like he threw her under the bus. It's not like he was just quiet and didn't come to her aid.
It's so weird that she suffered all the consequences of what HE did and we all saw him do it but she gets the blame, that was the worst part..I don't know why they even agreed to do such a risky thing during the superbowl , I wonder who came up with such a terrible idea at the worst time to do such a terrible idea during the SUPERBOWL..
On SexyBack, a non-zero percentage of people didn't even think of Justin when listening to SexyBack or what he was saying about himself we were using it for AMVs about our favorite anime guys. Back in the halcyon days of just throwing copyrighted footage and music on youtube to watch with no ads.
In that Twitter Incident with the reporter, I found it so funny that Justin got so upset about someone calling him out for his privilege that he wrote a song about it called "Say Something" in which he sings the lyrics "everybody says say something...but I don't want to get caught up in the middle of it," and also "sometimes the greatest way to say something is to say nothing at all". The song is framed like this "inspiring" internal struggle of a tortured artist when it's actually just the anthem of privileged babies who can't stand when the world isn't revolving around them. I used to be a big fan but that song was the first time I realized just how warped his perception of the world must be.
Britney, Justin and them all sang black music as kids weekly on the Mickey Mouse Club, because that was the music of the time. Are they culture vultures too?
@@ZionDoesMakeup That’s my point. It’s just music. Who is it disrespecting for him to like, appreciate, and be influenced by a certain music style just because it happens to be dominated by black artists? Those same artists jive with him and sing his praises for a reason.

I used to be a huge fan of JT.. and for awhile, you could possibly excuse his actions as being young, immature, and inexperienced. But, there's a point where you gotta grow up, and the man has yet to reach that point of genuine accountability. He's honestly too set in life at this point to even care. Even setting rumors, theories about controversies, and emotional personal testaments from victims aside, there is still too much evidence that points to the fact that defending JT is not Justified
14:28 he really wasn't at all and still isn't sorry considering the fact that he still sings cry me a river shamelessly with some arrogant intro speech. He just posted sorry because he was being attacked
For me tho, those apologies don't mean shit. He should've put down all these horrible things said to Britney especially asking about her virginity cause that's nobody's business but hers. Should've apologized to them personally but not surprising he doesn't feel any remorsed.

Yes because in 2004, we were at war on Iraq and this was a distraction.

Yes-Janet was and is still an icon. Not just as Michael’s little sister-she made her way all on her own making her solo debut in the 80’s.
Hey bryony! And I completely agree with your statement!

The reason Justin became the most popular member of NSync was bc of his relationship with Britney bc they became like the teen dream power couple and used their breakup to launch his solo career
lol that's not true, people liked him because he had talent and charisma. Second bes member of the group behind JC
@@giovanigeorgis3848it’s 100 percent true

Yah was only 8 in the late 90s but still remember the height of Backstreet and NSync
You should really look into how Justin Timberlake prevented the career of his other band mates, specifically JC Chasez. Would be an interesting deepdive!
jc's lack of solo success doesn't have shit to do with justin. jc's solo album was intended to be a side project, not necessarily made for mainstream success. that aside, the record label still messed up his album rollout and they are the sole reason for him not having more attention (delays, lack of budget, poor single choices and promotion).
justin even wrote a song with jc intended to be the first single for his unreleased second album called "until yesterday" and invited jc to perform it at his own concert in 2006. justin's known jc for 30 years and respects him greatly. he will be the first to tell you jc's a better singer than him!

regarding jc's pro bowl performance getting cancelled, if it was any artist who was gonna perform songs as risqué as 'some girls dance with women,' or 'blowin me up (with her love),' they most likely would've been axed as well because of the nfl wanting to keep a clean image following the super bowl incident. jc's association with justin was merely a coincidence. they literally offered him to do the national anthem instead, but he refused.
justin and their manager johnny wright definitely should've told the rest of the band that he wasn't going to return sooner, that i agree on, but i think that was more out of cowardice than malice. i do think there was a plan for justin to return to *nsync, and he repeated as such in promotion for his solo album. however, the response to justified was way too big for justin to go regress in a fading niche (boy bands) instead of moving forward in his solo endeavors.

It’s not just that Justin didn’t support Janet. It’s that he went on various tv shows, interviews etc joking about it. He kept it alive
She was the first to joke about it herself on SNL.
I always thought JC is the one who should've had the hugely successful solo career. He's a much better singer and he seems like a good guy.

I’d like to see Nelly Furtado make a comeback, at least as a guest-feature possibly on a Dua Lipa song.
She has new music in the works!
Please do a "How the Internet Fell out of Love with Jennifer Lawrence"!
Why? What happened to her?
I’m 35, so of course Nsync, BSB, Britney and Cristina Aguilera were my life back then. They all defined my teenage years and my taste in music. I loved Justin so much, but as i got older i started to see all of those things you explained. He is very talented but his career was made because of what happened with Britney and I can’t unsee it now.
She had an affair with his best friend. If he blows up because of a song he wrote about it--which artists tend to do--then what's the issue?
Timberland and the Neptunes carried his career
Apparently the Neptunes songs in particular were meant for Micheal Jackson. "Rock Your Body" could've been a huge hit for MJ compared to the ok "You Rock My World"
@@vinnym5607 yeah, I can't imagine MJ doing that song.

It’s not like Pharrell and Timbaland wasn’t still doing music with Timberlake for the Man Of The Woods album.

It's not gonna happen sadly, she has mentioned several times that she isn't interested in making a comeback.

Man, as a black girl, Justin Timberlake is just pathetic💀
Also, YES!!!!!!

@@Delena00 it existed, but ofc you are all team justin
@@aeoligarlic4024 And what proof do we have, other than Britney said so? I wouldn’t exactly call her a reliable narrator.

Nobody really cares. That was a long time ago and it has no bearing on why Timberlake’s current music isn’t hitting now the way it did years ago.
Funnily enough his shift from being a reference in Shrek 2 to a mostly forgettable and unlikable role in Shrek the Third was a pretty prescient forecast of the trajectory of his career.
Yet his latest tour, after six years of no new music, has sold out concerts. Try again.
14:13 - he only did this because the movie he was starring in called "Palmer" was right around the corner of being released - just like that time he "apologised" on MTV right before FSLS was about to drop, because he needed to win back the black audience he'd deservingly lost - everything with him has always come across as strategic.
He never lost any audience.
Music is a business.
Now, he thinks Oprah's coach will save him
He didn't need to use Britney to have a solo career. He was literally in *NSYNC.
@@Glitteringmoonstone2022 And she opened up for *NSYNC to kickstart her career. Your argument doesn’t hold.

I think that Justin was so good in "Social Network" because he played character very similar to his own: he would do whatever it takes to win and he doesn't look back at the other people, like it was with Janet and Britney. Such a bad person, can;t believe I liked him once.
Even his last song title is 🌟"Selfish"🌟,lol.
He didn’t commit any crimes, unless you count trying to being a successful male in show business one.
This came out the second I finished my yoga. It’s like you’re a psychic in a very narrow field.
Did you have to go back to yoga afterwards?
My only Justin Timberlake story is the stupid 20/20 experience album came out the day i went to a new hair dresser and got my emo skunk hair. The hair dresser asked if I liked JT and I only knew sexy back and *NSYNC stuff so I said “he’s okay I guess” and she went on the play that album on repeat the entire appointment… I freaking hate that album from that experience only! 😂

Actualy "Mirror"🪞was the biggest hit from that album💽👌
Honestly, I would love if Ryan Ross would make a comeback. He is a very talented singer/songwriter and it would just be nice to hear more music from him.
Honestly JC was the best of N*Sync
Janet should make a comeback! She deserves love after what he put her through.
Unrelated to the case, but fitting to the question at the end, I'd love to see Anastacia make a comeback. Technically she's super active, just really not known in the USA anymore, despite being an american singer and huge 2000s hit. Rest of the world loves her but her management messed up things.
She’s too old to make a comeback now. She was already getting too old for pop music by the time Nipplegate happened.
@@RocStarr913She ain't too old what are you talking about I'm pretty sure Celine Dion is older than her yet she still performs
He used to seem relatable and down to earth, now he seems like a psychopathic schemer who took advantage of every situation presented to him and had no problem stepping on anyone to get what he wanted.
only once, not multiple times.
Also Justin allegedly cheated on his wife 4 years ago and there were pictures every of him holding hands with her. I think he even publicly apologized for having an inappropriate moment with someone but I can’t remember if he fully admitted to cheating.
You could have mentioned Justin in Shrek 3

It isn't alleged if it is the truth🤷
They never decided to break up. While on break unfortunately while JT was planning his exit the rest of the guys turned down gigs because they were under the impression they were going back to the studio. They were blindsided. He then dhit talked saying the guys werent as passionate as him. With JC, the true vocal talent of NSYNC as lead, NSYNC could have continued as 4 some. Thats I truly believe
As a 90's kid, you have no idea how long I've waited for this episode
Hope JC gets a comeback. As long as he gets good producers. I think people will favor him more than JT since people pissed at him more now. He's the better singer and better looking too.
I’ve never been a Timberfake fan. I always thought JC was the way better looking and way more talented one.
Ah well… if it isn’t the consequences of his own actions
I think nipplegate gets a lot of attention without the context. At that time, a lot of raunchy performances were happening before the Super bowl with more and more negative reactions. When this moment finally happened it opened up the flood gates.
Regardless it was unfair how they treated Janet and honestly the entertainment industry owe her the biggest apology ever.

uhh, he's always mentioned wdym lol
Timberlake ultimately made the smart choice because it helped his career and Janet couldn’t get past her own ego.
I really want Britney to make a comeback especially after how he treated her just to humble him.

I mean, I would definitely like to see Janet make a comeback.
She’s too old and been around too long. She has not made new music really relevant to the current music market, which is mostly teenage girls.
