    How about making a working man truck? V8 or V6 all non turbo. 8 or 10 ‘ bed. Hand crank windows, vinyl seats and floor mat you can hose out working man dirt. AC and Cruise is ok and cigarette lighter 0:15 phone charger.
    Short bed and sliding rear window so baby sitter can watch kids can play in sand box, while their momma can grocery shop. All OEM’s catering to office pinkies instead of working men. It’s where pickups got their start. Cram the tech and get price $25-30K. That would sell like hot cakes.

      I've talked to body and custom guys for years. Unanimously they always say that if you have windows/glass in your roofs on your pickup truck you are going to face 2 issues. They are both related. Because the truck goes through such rugged terrain, the body flexes like crazy. issue 1 - leaking water around the glass and issue 2 - On extreme flexing the glass will shatter. It has been recommended by heavy duty people I know who say never put a t-top or sky roof in a truck because you take away from the strength the roof offers and add in problems. However if you are only going to drive it on pavement then maybe you can deal with it then easy enough.

      @@gpenrod5221Every excavator has glass roof. I never had sunroof shattered no matter how hard I drove; busted suspension compartments but never sunroof.
      Only problem with sunroofs I had was they stick; will open partially and won’t close; have to lube it once in a while to get it working again.
      Sunroof is a must if going off-road and you don’t want to get out all the time to check for clearance.
      For every day around town you need sunroof just as you do hands free autopilot.

      I had a 2002 Chevy that had Push button 4×4 & too many Electronics & gizmos an I couldn't do much work on it. I had to take it to a mechanic several times an I decided to get my first Non GM vehicle. My father in law had a 99 Toyota Tacoma, good truck. So I bought a 2001 Tacoma, I've done a bit of work on it myself an it's got a 4×4 shifter, an not much Electronics or gizmos an it's been by far my most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, an I think it's the longest vehicle I've had. Totally reliable over 90% of the time, an not too complicated. I've had an issue once I figured out what it was an had my wife bring me some spark plugs an wires an my one tool box an I fixed it in a parking lot, didn't take long. I couldn't do that with some of these vehicles today, likely not this CAT truck either.
      Trucks need to go back to the 80s an 90s an get some better ideas.
      The Gen II LT1 350 small-block V8 or
      Subsequent LT1 versions were solid an reliable small block V8's. No reason why Some don't imitate that small block. Or use a 6.7L Bio Diesel engine.

    I agree. A solid V6, no stop/start, no disabling cylinders, no turbo. I do not need an infotainment system as usually kids are in vehicle and cannot hear above them. Crew cab a must. I am the family go-to on pickup needs so towing, moving, drywall or plywood runs, dirt, compost.... almost needed every week. Forget the moon roofs and flashy display (charts, stats). Phone bluetooth link is not needed. Charge by USB port. Sliding manual rear window okay. Keep controls off console. Simple analog gauges and controls best. Basically want a 1990s version with fuel injection. Why the need for 10 gears... always got by with 3 most of my life. Naturally aspirated engine of decent displacement, good torque curve will give me the best MPG. Guys I know with those 'turbo lawnmower' engines having many issues, and MPG IS WORSE with loads and towing!

    Those color schemes at 10:44, were 🔥🔥🔥 My fav was the black & gold!!!❤️ CAT, is missing the mark at two points, that prevent this Make/ Model from being a super-success: 1. THAT BED, is tiny! It should automatically be no less than 6 foot. (I honestly initially thought this was going against the Maverick, Colorado, Ridgeline, etc.!); 2. With inflation on the rise, 18/24 mpg, is “Eh!”
    What, Caterpillar, SHOULD do!…. Is make a hybrid Hydro-Fuel! 36/45, for a full-size truck, would put EV trucks & Ram out the game! And only, the die-hard loyalist, would continue to support Ford, Chevy/ GMC, & Toyota

    Interesting but a still way to expensive for the a
    Judging by a read of many on the comments a common theme appears. Who needs another luxury pickup with a potential price tag to match. In the day the average person could by a new truck and have affordable payments on a 36 month loan. Now days the price has inflated way beyond wages so now loans are most likely 70 months or more. Power Tail Gate on a pickup, really? How about a work truck with a bench seat, an AM radio with push buttons, manual windows & door locks, back to basics! No lane-change monitors, sunroofs, heads up display, mission control electronics, smart dash displays, smart suspensions etc. Systems that are immune to solar flairs would be helpful too.

  • @dustinshadle732
    @dustinshadle732 3 місяці тому +2

    I think that to make this work, a person needs to be able to pick each electronic system or leave it. Each person has different needs, and drives in different places. Ranchers don't need extra points of electronic failure. Drop the massive infotainment to a basic or deluxe option. Give 3 bed length options and 2 wheelbase options. 2 cab options, maybe 3. Personally I'd like to see an extended cab like Ford, but with the rear seats easily removed. My tools and dog don't need a leather seat, and neither do I, to be frank. I think offering 4x4 only would be fine, but I miss the trusted 4x4 lever activated transfer case. I've had the electronic and vacuum systems fail. It should be rugged enough to be able to have the floors hosed out, sealed electronics, and probably weather resistant seats. The standard 120vac outlets are pretty cool, I'd offer a military style slave jump start plug. This way you could have a plug for 12v and 24v charging if you don't have a battery booster on hand to plug in. Make the chassis greaseable like the big equipment, and like older trucks. Have both an hour meter and odometer standard for reminders on lubrication and parts maintenance. It's simple really, dial down the luxury for solid comfort without standard fancy stuff, have vehicles able to be configured for sportsmen to contractors to field service techs. These would be the people that know the reputation of the name plate and know that a fairly basic model still has what is needed to allow a long, comfortable day on site, or a place to cool down, or warm up the crew for breaks. I'd want a stereo that pulled in good reception on am/fm, because I always seemed to work places at the fringe of the good radio stations. 8, 10, or 12ft box, or cab chassis for dropping on a service box of some kind. Even possible to put these to work as rescue vehicles or ambulance work. Great possibilities for government contracts. Use those contracts to keep the prices lower for the public. After all, taxpayers pay for government contracts, and then pay the same companies for these other trucks. Oh, and please put some factory protection over those half shafts turning the wheels. I hope that rear axle is solid. I'd prefer a solid front axle for anything over half ton ratings.
