My greatest fear is clicking on this video and finding im the bronze being spectated. Not cuz i posted the request but because flats decides to pick on someone whos even more ass than the one who submitted😂
As someone who has coached Tracer players from silver to gm, there's something very simple that can be said that was never touched on, and is muuuch more important than target priority, cooldown management, aim, etc: 1. Slow down your gameplay by 30% 2. Always time your engages when your frontline is pushing 3. Never have players on either side of you (enemies and allies alike) 4. Don't chase kills (that jeopardize the 3 points above), only go for kills that are convenient. Harassment is your bread and butter value Reasoning: 1. By slowing down your gameplay, you get more time to acquire targets and track, because right now you're playing too quickly for your aim to follow, as well as your decisionmaking. Your pace of play is pushing your decisions into very poor risk/reward territory, and especially with Tracer you don't want to rely on high risk plays. You're a glass cannon. 2. Before you take fights, take a breather, find a good (hidden/unexpected) attack angle, look for your team, and push when they push. Do this literally every single fight. You never want to stay in fights prolonged and bleed resources, and pray your ability to get an elimination is what saves you. This is a bad habit, you don't want to rely on elims to bail you out of bad decisions and poor positioning. Work on timing and positioning first, then you can add going for elims on top once you master the basics. 3. Never have any players on either side of you. This is Tracer positioning 101. You always want to attack from an off angle, and that angle should ideally only expose you to one person at a time, so you know exactly where damage may come from and how to act accordingly, which by nature removes 90% of rng that is found in low ranks. Rng only exists where predicted damage and pathing exists, so if you position yourself outside of predicted damage zones (aka the straight los between both frontlines) then you naturally avoid random junkrat mines, Mei icicles, Hanzo arrows, Pharah rockets, etc. People don't spam damage and abilities in places they don't expect to take a fight. You need to fight from such a place. Effectively, this means you should ideally always attack from a 90 degree or 180 degree angle of the enemy you're engaging. NEVER front line. Not until you've reached Masters and understand the risk of doing so. Never fight in the middle of the enemy team, or in between two teams. 4. Chasing kills is simply not what Tracer is strong at. Too many ways to negate damage when you can't consistently hit 1-clips, and even in gm Tracers struggle with consistently doing this (also ofc scales with skill of the opponents). If you want to go for kills, then it should be because the opportunity presents itself - someone makes a mistake, or uses a key ability that would otherwise save them, or they're already low hp/being focused by a team mate. What you can instead do as regular consistent value, is bleeding the enemy players of their resources. Force Ana to use her nade defensively. Bypass the enemy Rein shield and rain bullets in his side, constantly be on the ass of the Junkrat so he can't just relax and spam away at your frontline while they're fighting, etc. And notice how I say "be on his ass". You don't want to take duels. That's not your job, especially at this elo. You want to take as many unfair fights as you possibly can, because that's what Tracer's kit allows you. You have quickly replenishing resources, high rate of dmg output - meaning you can quickly be anywhere around the enemy team at any time, and nobody can afford to chase you down. This is a massive freedom for you as a player, to constantly scout for unfair fights that are in your favor. Do this all the time, and you will see high consistent value come automatically. You have the aim and the processing speed to play at a much higher level than Bronze. And with some training and focus on the points above you could make it past gold or plat - and by then you might improve enough to go even further. The potential is there. But it requires discipline and a total restructure of your playstyle. The ball is in your court
@Sazerac I think it's simply a matter of a misunderstanding to be honest. What you read as "don't chase kills" isn't what I intend to describe. That can be on you, or it can be on me. But as I'm taking the role of "coach" in my initial comment, I will take this misunderstanding on me regardless, and I will address it. here: What I mean with "don't chase kills" is to not tunnel vision on killing enemies and chasing them at the detriment of your risk/reward potential. There tends to be a window of opportunity for when a potential for a kill has most value - and that is if the kill is possible before you deplete your primary resources (blinks and non-critical hp, and general enemy team awareness of you). After this point, is where your risk goes up exponentially for the reward you chase. You can even put it mathematically: If there is no risk to begin with, then you lose nothing by chasing because an exponential curve of zero is still zero. So like chasing a ball that tries to escape, or chase a Moira who faded out of the fight, that's all fine. But my focus on not chasing comes from the point of view that I am directing my advice to a Bronze player, not a high Diamond player. My goal is not to improve their SR a bit - no the goal for me is to fundamentally improve them as a player. This is why I want to teach them consistent value first, before they start dabbling with risk-based value. In order to prioritize what to chase and when, you first need to understand what type of value you're giving up on by chasing the enemy. Like with most of this player's engages where he chases enemies, he often gives up his good positioning, he gives up all of his resources, he gives up time (and thus timing by extend), and he gives up general awareness of his surroundings. So instead of telling him "improve your awareness, improve your positioning during fights, manage resources better", I would rather address the issue at its root: chasing kills (as a primary source of value). My intent is not to say chasing kills is bad. My point is that it shouldn't be the focus at this level of play, as more consistent and core value is lacking and that needs to be built up first, as a strong foundation for improving other more advanced gameplay aspects (and chasing kills is a more advanced concept). This is why coaching looks different depending on which player is receiving coaching. If I were to coach you, my takes would be very different and they would be specific to your playstyle, your base understanding of the game, and your general skill. You're not Bronze, so most of these things I mention are not suitable for you, because you've already built a strong foundation already. So what to you may seem senseless or downright counterintuitive, or "bad advice", is actually quite different for someone who plays at a much lower rating than you. Just like how you don't advice new Doomfist players to learn rollouts as the first thing they do, or which specific combos to use, or which targets to focus. You advice them on what the core strenghts of the hero are, and the risks. Then you drill it into their head with hours of playtime and reviews+feedback on how they're progressing. That's also often why when you want to improve at any given hero, often you risk seeing a dive in SR because typically people need to downgrade and backtrack a bit on their playstyle and approach, so they can build a stronger foundation and revert some bad habits - and THEN you see them improve on a much more potential-full path on which they can then rebuild their old skills, but with newfound understanding of why certain things work and others dont. Players generally don't benefit from just being told what to do and what not to do. They benefit from understanding why those conclusions are reached in the first place.
@Sazerac That might be some of the most reassuring feedback I've received in.. well, don't even know how long. I'll happily take any and all feedback, positive and negative alike - so I truly appreciate you going out of your way to write this. I'll try my best to keep it up and improve. I'm always amazed that bronze looks how my low GOLD used to look, when I was bronze, I could scarcely find the point let alone spam voice lines while trying to shoot at the right colored target.
Right? I feel like what separates bronze (and to a point silver) from gold is button mashing. Bronze nowadays seems to be impatient button mashing with no sense of team awareness
That's because people are playing other games waiting for OW2, so the only people playing are...people that only play overwatch, and even less play ranked. Once OW2 officially releases and the playerbase spikes again bronze will be filled with people who barely know how to play overwatch in general
Gold is a hodgepodge of throwers, smurfs, new players and casual players. I can't tell you often you get someone who should be diamond+ and someone who should be bottom 100 on the same team because gold is where Blizzard thinks everyone should start out. It's legitimately the catchall rank.
I only smash the button when I am not fighting expt I don't do it crazily or it will be annoying to hear every time. of late I have not been really playing Overwatch since I can't spend money on doing Overwatch 2 when it has not come out yet and I am Mercy main reason I am still in low sliver and gold and few times bronze.
I'm low plat on dps and this guys tracer isn't worse than mine. He just makes it way harder for himself by spamming emotes, sprays and melees on the floor.
The speech about "perfect overwatch" expectations I think really hit me as a plat/diamond player. I just need to do what I can in my role and whatever happens happens
In certain elos, "whatever happens happens" is not good enough. When the matchmaking system was broken at OW2's launch and it was either roll or be rolled you HAD to group up and stop stacking and feeding, and you still do to a lesser extent. Ult economy starts getting serious in Gold, and the amount of games I lost because my team's Orisa decided to go alone at the last point of Route 66 and giving ults to 2 or 3 enemies is too damn high.

tip for any tracers: When you use your blinks to get to point faster, use only two of them. You never know if some random player jumps at you from behind the corner and for me personally, this one blink saved me at least milion times
Flats thank you. I want to share this with all my plat teammates that want to "focus the supports." Then feed behind the team. No amount of healing can save a tank if they are out of position and everyone focuses them. I try in super scrambly fights to focus the biggest threat with the biggest ability to change a fight. Maybe it will be different in OW2 though with one less tank, the backline could be more accessible
It REALLY annoys me when people are screaming "FOCUS THE MERCY" when the Reaper and Tracer are in our backline absolutely destroying us with Mercy nowhere in sight. I'm not caring about a Mercy pocketing a Rein if we're getting pulsebombed every 30 seconds.

This might be the most mechanically skilled bronze tracer Ive seen... aim and decision making aside, Id love to see more of this in my own rank lmao Im done seeing people blink head first into walls or getting lost after they blink twice in row..
I counted 60 ground punches from thesaltlord (not counting the winston) that's 1800 damage to the floor. Yeah that's it I'm calling for a floor nerf in ow2
I love how critical flats is, which is not only hilarious but also genuinely helpful. Like, I know it's not supposed to be a guide or a vod review but even just him commenting on things that are bothering him and going off on rants on how to play the game are actually really great
I'm low plat and generally this player has very similar aim to me. It's everything else that's holding them back. Reminds me of games where everyone thinks the enemy tracer is smurfing at first because of their aim and movement/APM in general, but then you realize that they're a free kill regardless.
@Alexander Mong there is a lot of shit one can do to climb,I was one game away from Diamond, and my aim accuracy was 20% on a good day. Having good game sense takes one a long way Edit:im in Diamond
I’m also guilty of spraying/melee the ground on the way back. I look at it as more of a nervous tick that developed from the feeling have having to do something. Especially on long walks to point like on defending Eichenwalde A
More often than not I cheer on the bronze, finish the video and give them a nod wishing them growth and good luck for the future. This was not one of those times. Voiceline spam and the motion sickness I got from them meleeing the floor / floor staring made me mutter "eat shit" when they got killed every time.
idk what's so bad about that. Yes the voicelines got annoying, but meleeing the floor, especially with tracer is satisfying as frick. (The little "Donk" and her weapon spin), I always do this when I come out of spawn with her haha.

The resource management of their blinks make my head hurt. It’s like from 15:00 onwards they engage in fights with 1 to 0 blinks available instead they are using it to get into the fight faster and die
I'm also very pissed off because i feel like this team should have won the game or even climb, since they are mechanically decent, but their bad habits (i think i never saw the Lijiang sky ever) just ruin their strategy and decision making. Seeing the last fight, i changed my mind : they deserved to lose the round. Hope they'll all get better seeing this vid. They are so close ! I think the player's even a better tracer than me on my poor platinum rank.
I used to melee the floor, but ever since seeing this video I've made it my mission to melee the floor every chance I get purely out of spite. Thanks Flats!
I only ever had one good Tracer game. Once I try to focus a support suddenly their entire team notices and all tries to kill me while my team just sits and watches instead of taking advantage of the situation :(.
That's why you wait until your team does something and then you do something as the tracer. That way they can't afford to all look at you meaning their players have to look at 2 different angles or chose a target. It creates confusion and indecisiveness that can cause mistakes to be made and win you a fight even if you did nothing more then do 100 damage total if 3 players turned around and they are not aware of them getting targeted by your teammates they simply die.
What flats said about target priority is what I tried to tell a soldier who kept trying to 1 vs 6 the enemy team to get the mercy. Also this tracer was feeding so hard unintentionally.
it's funny watching flats say "chase the ball again" three times without noticing ball in the kill feed, and not realize the mistake when ball is returning from spawn. Little things that just show "everyone makes mistakes no matter how good they are" :)
ive never seen this guy or his videos but this entire video just felt like him judging a bronze player and as a bronze player i loved this and it made me giggle im gonna SUBSCRIBE

I had a bit better aim + crosshair placement, I never did that ground melee thing, and I played a bit safer by timing my engagements, but my game sense and target priority was around this level tbh. I quit overwatch and came back and I'm low gold now lol. I'm slowly getting better again. My gameplay has improved massively by improving my decision making process. No one gave me this advice but I realized no video or how-to guide or unranked to GM guide could give me decision making skills. You just have to keep playing until you can make those decisions yourself at a moment's notice. That takes a while.
“Why aren’t you shooting the turrets?” “Flats got mad at me when I decided to shoot the turrets.” “Turrets stopped me from getting that kill.” “Bro you gotta shoot the sym turrets.” Turrets are the worst design in ow, and you will not change my mind.

Seen lots of high ranked players spamming ground spray. I think it's more like some ADHD thing where they just have to constantly do something. I've heard some explain that they do it to keep hands warm, as if they were gonna get cold in the 10 second lull...
that gave ME anxiety
i feel like people do it out of frustration. like darn'it i died, "shmackk the floor" 🤣
@@Jaakko_Ruotsalainen i have adhd and this comment made me realise how much i melee or spam voicelines in game just because my hands need to do something... you're probably right 😅
@@dr.stanley4317 Yep, that's why I do it. I know it doesn't actually make me look good but it makes me feel good
Maybe if they stopped punching the floor they could win the match. That part at the end where Flats was yelling for anyone to look up was painful to watch. I’m kinda mad now too lol
tip for any tracers: When you use your blinks to get to point faster, use only two of them. You never know if some random player jumps at you from behind the corner and for me personally, this one blink saved me at least milion times
Hunter
I can't believe there was more than one player using quick melee on the ground.
the player who was the Winston is the Tracer friend long with 2 others.
The fact that the enemy team went from 0% to 100% after being in OT for 5 centuries on the second map and then winning amazes me
Take a shot for every time Flats says “inherent” 😂
Did it. Now I’m in the hospital
Take a shot every time she melee the ground
However though!
@@Vinicius-zu3nx that's enough alcohol to kill the entire human population
@@Vinicius-zu3nx That's just encouraging people to unalive themselves, you heartless psycho 💀
Holy shit the impact sound effects when he melees the floor are hilarious
the ground melee with the vine boom effect fucking broke me
12:53 "Go chase the ball again." and proceeds to repeat it multiple times... failing to realize... the ball is dead, in kill feed... the tracer's Moira finished him off, off screen. XD
This might be the most mechanically skilled bronze tracer Ive seen... aim and decision making aside, Id love to see more of this in my own rank lmao Im done seeing people blink head first into walls or getting lost after they blink twice in row..
Ahhahaha "blinking twice in a row getting lost" did that so much! Glad it wasn't only me
If the ground was an enemy these guys would be the best team in the world
14:22 I like how the ball wipes 4 people out and then goes 'ait my planet needs me'
LMAO I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE
The vine boom sound everytime they melee the ground is fucking amazing lmao
Everytime I miss a stationary object I hear flats calling me a fucking idiot
Same. This is crazy and not normal tbh
I counted 60 ground punches from thesaltlord (not counting the winston) that's 1800 damage to the floor. Yeah that's it I'm calling for a floor nerf in ow2
Thank god this ain't battlefield or else everyone of his teammates would fall in a pit when he blinks out of spawn and punches the ground
I love how critical flats is, which is not only hilarious but also genuinely helpful. Like, I know it's not supposed to be a guide or a vod review but even just him commenting on things that are bothering him and going off on rants on how to play the game are actually really great
Man. The term "Ego Vod" really fits this one
they did absolutely jackshit tho so where the ego from
@@Real_MisterSir the email. Mentioning the kills and damage.
@@deebo429__ oh
I'm going to come back to this video and drink everytime flats says "inherently"
Tracer: *asks for healing*
*doesn't use recall*
*finally uses recall at full health*
I'm low plat and generally this player has very similar aim to me. It's everything else that's holding them back. Reminds me of games where everyone thinks the enemy tracer is smurfing at first because of their aim and movement/APM in general, but then you realize that they're a free kill regardless.
So you getting carried pretty hard if you have similar aim lol.
@Alexander Mong there is a lot of shit one can do to climb,I was one game away from Diamond, and my aim accuracy was 20% on a good day.
Having good game sense takes one a long way
Edit:im in Diamond
I’m also guilty of spraying/melee the ground on the way back. I look at it as more of a nervous tick that developed from the feeling have having to do something. Especially on long walks to point like on defending Eichenwalde A
Why the ground tho? Just melee the air if you have to. Shoot and reload or something
Legit had to scroll to see who edited this because of how good the editing was on this video. Kudos to you Randomvstheworld
Flats: "At least they have friends."
Me: Emongg, Seagull, Eskay, ML7, Jay3, KarQ....
that ball did so much work loL
The Vine Boom for each punch was pure perfection
More often than not I cheer on the bronze, finish the video and give them a nod wishing them growth and good luck for the future. This was not one of those times. Voiceline spam and the motion sickness I got from them meleeing the floor / floor staring made me mutter "eat shit" when they got killed every time.
idk what's so bad about that. Yes the voicelines got annoying, but meleeing the floor, especially with tracer is satisfying as frick. (The little "Donk" and her weapon spin), I always do this when I come out of spawn with her haha.
@@wexmell melee the air then. The floor thing is fucking stupid
@@wexmell then stop doing this. If you have someone on a flank or sym-turrets above you don't see them, because you are to busy hitting the pavement.
@@slowestpoke8962 you missunderstood. I dont just stare at the ground while doing that. I do it sometimes, while flicking to the ground and then flicking my mouse upwards again to see what is happening lol
@@wexmell Exactly I think its satisfying for most characters but for Tracer its definitely the most satisfying. I do the same thing with pretty much every character (didn't stop me from laughing at every bruh sound effect edited in tho)
yes they all stacked up together to punch the floor
Love your editors xD popping off every video
Broooo I'm dying at work looking at this! Flats just screaming "sym t.p." "the sym t.p." " the sym t.p.!!!"
Im not gonna say I am impressed, but I am also not completely disappointed
The word “inherently” has inherently lost its inherent meaning in this inherently funny video
its like they smoked crack before playing
I felt the "LOOK UP LOOK UP LOOK FOR THE TP LOOK UP!"
I don't understand why they melee so much but then do not even attempt the blink + punch combo.
YEESSS. blink + punch is a tracer must learn imo. 30 flat dmg toward low targets is always good.
any tips on how to do this consistently?
@@AnitaHanjaabFR I have melee bound to one of the side buttons on my mouse, so if I hit that with my thumb & right click at the same time, it will blink-punch. Just have to work on getting the distance right after that.
@@superfund42 thanks,i'll give that a shot
the thing that confuses me is the fact that he’s switching targets mid clip
Wish we had a counter for every time Flats said inherently
I think if this guy tightens up his aim and just plays reaper with this play style he climbs easy
At least up to gold he would need a few positioning things
True
Perfect play style for Reaper.
@@AC_Milan1899 not above plat lol 1v6 like that and I would get YEETED
smth I remember hearing, and never forgetting, is to ALWAYS have at least 1 blink in your reserve when entering a fight
This player gives off a massive “I have an ego” vibe. Just purely from the gameplay.
That pulse wouldve killed me though lmfao
Flats losing his mind over the Sym TP...I love this.
when "inherent(ly)" is your word of the day and you take it to another level
I'm also a low SR player that melees the floor/air randomly. Wonder what is up with that, I have no idea where I picked it up from. Hilariously, I always forget to use melee in actual battle.
Stop
The resource management of their blinks make my head hurt. It’s like from 15:00 onwards they engage in fights with 1 to 0 blinks available instead they are using it to get into the fight faster and die
"chase the ball, chase the ball, chase the ball" if I ever get a dog I'm naming them tracer and that's how I'll teach them to fetch
I love the change in the kill order it makes the game so much more dynamic and I think will allow them to create a lot more diverse heroes.
12:53 is when the ball dies. 13:08 is when the ball comes back. the whole time flats is like kill the ball, how? its dead.
They're not mechanically plat, but they are dang good. I'd give em a solid gold
This tracer has a lot of potential.
first time I see flats without his headphones
Flats going ape shit when the team failed to look up for the sym tp!!! 😂😂😂
I used to melee the floor, but ever since seeing this video I've made it my mission to melee the floor every chance I get purely out of spite. Thanks Flats!
Flats: Screaming "Look up!"
Me: "Gamers don’t look up"
I think the reason they pull down when they shoot might be a habit from playing Soldier 76 too much or just before playing Tracer.
"I have an eternal rivalry with the floor!! Its the ceiling of opposite world!!"
Your anger in these videos matches my general anger towards life and that comforts me
my sides are in orbit from the vine boom floor punches dude holy shit
When Flats started yelling about the sym TP all I could think of was the vine about the pizza and the cheese under the sause

The vine boom whenever they melee the ground was great.
Misleading title. Bronze Tracer definitely focused on a single target. "The Floor"
the meleeing the floor is definitely holding them back
"Chase the ball again"
"Chase the ball again"
"Go chase the ball again"
"He's going to get a bunch of health packs"
Ball waiting to respawn: ......
The added floor punch sound effect is killin' me AHAHAHAHA

Flats' word of the day was inherently
Imagine him trying to kill a Pharah 😂
This is the most I've seen Flats turn into a yelling tomato. I think he turned purple over the Sym TP
The man has a personal vendetta against the earth
I played a lot like this Tracer in 2016-2018 and I was low diamond. I even hit masters in competitive CTF.
My guy literally doesn’t look up, always checking out that he’s not tripping on his feet 😅
This man will find a way to use the word “inherently.” Ask the dude his name and he’s telling you “inherently it’s Flats”
“It only works out if it works out” wow what sound advice
Flat's must have learnt the word inherently before this video.
“Why aren’t you shooting the turrets?”
“Flats got mad at me when I decided to shoot the turrets.”
“Turrets stopped me from getting that kill.”
“Bro you gotta shoot the sym turrets.”
Turrets are the worst design in ow, and you will not change my mind.
"Don't you guys have (head)phones?" 🤣🤣🤣
