I wish I knew about the Fair phone before I bought my new one at beginning of this year. The X Cover 6 pro was only available to businesses. The Samsung Galaxy S5 was the best phone ever. I'm using it right now to write to you, but can't make or receive calls anymore. I bought it new in 2014 and IT STILL WORKS! Except the phone company won't support it. And they want sustainable this and that. Right. I had to get a new phone because of them.
@@TheHopelessGeek Ah, you're far more techy than me. But for me, I let the young sales guy at the kiosk pick a good phone for me back in 2014, and he did a good job. It was considered one of the best at that time. But I get attached to my things. Take good care of them. Then I refuse to let them go. Don't care for anything new if what I have still works great for me! I'm just old school. And old now too!
It indeed was one of the best things back then. A beautiful AMOLED screen, one of the industry's first fingerprint sensors (although poorly implemented 😅), a 4K video capable 16 mp camera, water resistance with that full-size port.. it was unique!
I haven't used SD cards since 2013, but it won't hurt to have that expansion capability. Even though they aren't as fast as the device's built-in flash memory, it's nice to store some files that aren't always in use.
Hm.. maybe at first, if the companies cannot figure out something better. Someone will surely develop a nicer device, given the advancement in silicon carbon batteries
😅I usually make these removable battery phones roundup ever year. This is a little update to last year's edition, but mostly has the same phone recommendations.
The V20 was ahead of its time in many ways. I wish they still made phones. They stopped two years ago and stopped removable batteries even before that. I'm hoping that the EU battery laws of 2027, which mandate removable battery designs, will improve things again.
Depending on the network, V20's and I think all LTE phones are no longer operable. I dislike the fairphone 5 for lacking a back mounted fingerprint sensor, side-mounted ones have been completely unreliable in my experience. Personally, I'm just hoping that the EU legislation will force the Unihertz Jelly series to add removable batteries.
@TheHopelessGeek I appreciate your fast and invested reply. Personally, I don't think it's going to matter for smartphones as we know them for much longer. I believe smartwatch/AR glasses combos will replace them as the new "smartphone", removing the need for led screens and saving space among other things.
Yes, that is likely. But whichever device we get, it's best to make them sustainable and long lasting, like the old times where things were built to last 🙂
Mainly the hands free nature of it. Also, being able to see a display anywhere at any natural inclination is awesome. No need to mount a screen and sit in front of it all day anymore.
@@TheHopelessGeekIts fine sure, but the phone is 600 euros. I just going to wait until the EU thing goes in, probably will have more models to choose from. Its kinda crazy how little choice there is now. If I am gona pay 600+ euros, I want at least 8gb.
Well, the Note 8 was expensive back in 2017-18 when it launched. Now it's dirt cheap and old 😅. But yes, the 2027 EU mandates are bound to make things better

All phones have a removable battery if you're brave enough
*skilled enough. Bravery can result in catastrophic failures too😂
You mean if you know how to open the lid...
You mean brave enough to drop it till open. I'm not a technician. I miss the old time using smartphone that come with removable battery.
Removable batteries were the best. Hopefully we see some version of that after 2027, thanks to EU mandates.
I think the LG G5 whole removable lower part is a great solution for the come back of removable batteries.
But that may cause challenges with water resistance.

Yeah. Although I didn't like the software on the S5, it was an amazing device for its time.

I think that , Removable battery smartphones design in upcoming years will be same as before 2018🤔

This is how all smart devices should be.
Agreed. Removable batteries should be the norm and mandatory design.
Sooooo, wait till 2027
Yeah, wait till the bill passes fully. It may even be delayed post 2027😅
it would be better if all the phones have the same type of battery
True. That way, we can buy any available battery and replace ours.
Agreed.
Like standard AA / AAA batteries for any battery operated device ... radios... electric toothbrush...
Yes, precisely
I like how your video topic gets quirky and particular everyday

I wish the Galaxy S2 came back with a faster processor and new os
It was a legendary phone. I remember seeing it as a kid and wanting it so bad 😢. Couldn't afford it back then
Those downsides are insignificant or total BS. LG needs to update the V20, as that is the best phone. What sucks is the screen is very fragile.

Ah, yes! 5000 mAh, user replaceable battery. Nice 🙂👍🏼
Fairphone is might be a game changer
Yes, it's truly the best attempt I've seen towards a long-lasting device✌🏼
Fairphone is a scam for greenwashed hipsters.
Finnaly you're going somewhere, hmm there is many things you haven't heard of before, stop big brand they just wants to get more profits.
Yeah, hopefully the EU battery mandate changes things
I have redmi 9 prime which is a non removable battery phone
Is the back panel somewhat easier to remove? Usually, devices without any IP ratings are easier to open.

The rear mounted sensors were indeed very convenient. I'm also looking forward to 2027 when new designs roll out in compliance with EU.

Yes, phone recycling is another issue. Some companies, like Apple, have figured it out specifically for their phones.
