I was about to comment on how hot that is! But, it is obviously Fahrenheit. I am in Albany, Western Australia and it was 22 Celsius (82.4F). Just perfect.

10-17-23 Listening from Southern Ontario, Canada🇨🇦, 43* N. Now that we are having some very nice cool evenings, low forties, I’m enjoying our wood-burning fireplace. Especially nice is near the end, when slow smouldering coals, snapping and spitting, softly flicker and throw shadows all around. The cats are already cuddled up for the night dreaming cat-mint dreams of their own, and I’m being lulled to sleep - along with another great story! I’m raising my cup of hot chocolate to all - wishing everyone a very peaceful sleep, and long lovely dreams - Cheers ! 🙏❤🫠

I feel absolutely the same way ! I like to feel most of us do 🫠.Knowing these little things is a way of sharing ourselves, and there are so many people today who are alone or experiencing loneliness for any number of reasons, and even this little bit of sharing can make them feel connected to the world. Some people may have trouble even being able to envision a “bigger” or more complete picture, so any comments others make, such as you described here, is even more important than they know. I saw a comment further down, by “Michael”, and thought I’d try to answer his question which touches on this. I apologize for my length, but I hoped I could give him a real answer to his “why” question. Take care and hope you have a great day! 🫠

Hello, Michael. I’d like to try and answer your question. It really comes down to two things: we are a social life-form that requires a social construct, and secondly, we humans need to have a connectivity with others in our life. All the rest of this I’ve described further is about how we go about doing that.
We engage in social construct with others all the time, and not just as a habit. In fact, is an established fact that when we are no longer able to do that, we become depressed, morose and can even find it difficult to face daily life without it. These old radio shows are a relic of our fairly recent past, and for many it became a very important feature because it allowed us to be able to peek into other people’s lives - to understand what others were doing, why and where. Back even before that, we had “stories” passed down by word of mouth, that talked about what kind of beliefs people held, mentioned foods we never heard of, some expressed an optimism that was hopeful, some stories spoke of scary or evil things, etc.
From these stories came legends, science fiction, mysteries - all of which could be shared with others we lived with in our time period. These stories had the ability to surprise us, scare us, educate us, and all the while made us feel we weren’t alone; and for the scary ones we could band together to share the fear. I believe that the more you can picture yourself or others that are sharing this information, the better the experience. Even if you are alone listening to a story, your mind finds it necessary to build a picture in your mind to help better understand all the nuances of that experience.
With respect to this site or others like it, listening to these stories, I can assure you that being able to “picture” the other listeners - knowing what part of the world they may live in, what is happening there currently, sharing any small details about others who are listening with you, hearing listeners who can give more information on the stories background - is all part of sharing yourself with others, even if it’s just the time on the clock, or the weather: It is a form of communication, and we humans need that. It makes us feel connected to our world. There are so many people today who are all alone, for one reason or another, but when you can share a bit of yourself, you have reached out to another - and those others can feel that connectedness. It has been a real lifeline for so many, and I am not ashamed to say I am one of them. Hope this helps !🙏❤🫠 Hope you will still find it interesting to listen to these stories - who doesn’t like a bed-time story ? ☺

I do. Don't you find it remarkable that this very recording is now being jointly listened to by individuals all over the world, even in such far off and exotic places as Kansas? 😊 Are you not thankfully for these brief glimpses into their lives? Also, I think these QSLs build a sense of community.

@@frednitney5831 Yes, I am. In fact, in some cases I have ended up being sort of “ pen-pals” with some, who, having noticed certain comments of mine, found themselves asking food questions (i.e. requesting recipes), another ended up finding we had been raised with similar backgrounds, travelled to similar places, liked to read certain authors, inadvertently was able to help source medical information…… I am very aware from responses I get that many people are almost starved from not finding like-minded people until they see just a phrase or reference. In one instance, by replying to a site about a certain author, I was offered a chance to be interviewed by The New Yorker for an article they were going to do re a certain well known author and found my knowledge worthwhile. Yes, you never know how just how far and wide a simple comment when listening to these OTR programs will go - and I enjoy it so much - a real feeling of being connected to the world. 🫠
