The long wait is over, Rhystic is back! Of all the MTG UA-camrs your quality content is second to none. I always look forward to your videos. Don't ever stop.
I believe your artist videos have achieved their true purpose with a viewer like me. When I first got into Magic, I only saw the cards for their playability. I would casually look at a card and think “wow, that looks cool. I like the picture on this one.” But after viewing your videos like Avon, Hamm, McKinnon, and now this video, I am “that” guy in my playgroup that’s constantly saying stuff like “guys, this new pack has a Nils Hamm artwork! Look at the purpled and greens!” Haha In other words, bravo sir. I imagine videos like this are what give artists the validation they deserve for all the beauty they put into our game.
This is my introduction to Sid's work, even though I've played with cards he illustrated many times without reallh noticing it. It's something I regret overlooking after watching this video. Thank you to both you, Sam, and you, Sid. Thank you Sam for bringing Sid's work to my attention. And thank you Sid for giving the game so much art to showcase. Cheers to you both!
I come back to "The Magic Art of..." playlist like comfort food. I link this series to my friends if we're talking about art, because It's such a great celebration of amazing artwork. Your analysis is always thoughtful and informed without feeling snobby or exclusive. I'm always hoping there's a new one just around the corner. Thanks for your hard work on these.
@@PalPlays Hey, people make mistakes. Instead of criticizing him we should celebrate Rhystic Studie's ability to introduce people to this wonderful game.
Same, after watching that video I immediately downloaded Arena, got into it, then went to a local shop to buy some packs and play some games on Fridays
YAYAYAYAYAY. I started watching your videos with Jesper Ejsing 2 years ago, and since started paying more attention to the art on my cards. I fell in love with Seb McKinnon's work. I even supported his latest kick-starter and own two of his prints, and over 100 of his cards, which I keep in a binder I hope he will sign one day. All this started from your love of art and willingness to share with the rest of the world in a well explained beautiful form. Thanks Sam
Another absolutely beautiful video. Honestly man these are at the level of the best documentaries out there. Idk if you take recommendations but I’d love if you did Chippy. His esper art really made the plane come alive and his classic doom blade art is one of the most instantly recognizable pieces in all of magic.
I have a hard time describing how I feel when I see a new video pop-up on your channel, but it somewhat feels the same as when I go checkout on my grandma and she greets me with the best of hugs with her tiny arms ; it's just awesome. Keep it up !
The artwork of magic the gathering is one thing that i enjoy just as much as the gameplay. Im always happy when i see you highlight an artist that i do know, but moreso when its one i don't know. Then you show a card or two that i play with and its like now i can never play rampage of the clans with thinking of the artist or appreciating the artwork even more. Great videos as always and thanks to you both!
He has a magical way of deepening one's appreciation for this beautiful game. Rancor is one of my favorite cards in my pauper cube because of his video on it. I even specifically chose the old card frame version because of his frame studies video.
These artist showcases are some of my favorite videos on your channel. They've given me a much deeper appreciation for cards I would have never given a second glance to. They let me better understand the incredible talent and skill that the many artists who have worked with Wizards of the Coast have. Your channel is honestly irreplaceable, real 5-star stuff you have going here. Incredible job.
I love that he's continually studious, even while clearly being a world class talent. Seems like the most skilled people are almost always the ones who never stop learning.
Rockwell was the first feeling I got from the first few instances of looking at these...from the color and stroke usage, to framing, and as you pointed out...humor. Thanks again, Sam. You exemplify the greatness you point out in others' work as well.
Your attention to details are art in and of itself, and the way you methodically structure your points are like poetry. To the point, but without leaving any necessary details behind. And it feels like you go out of your way to be as specific as you can, but keeping the language as common as possible, so everyone who wants to listen can understand. Thank you. Thank you for your videos and for your contribution to make MTG what it is.
Great video as always, your love for art really shines through in the attention and love you give your video making process as well. I also wanted to thank you for honestly deepening my love for all the artists who work on magic cards, it's great to have such a thoughtful and analytical breakdown that puts what I see into words I understand, You're videos are great resource to teach art because of the attention you give to all the theory that make each artist individual but also the common language they employ to make their art employ the right moods.
I'd like to take a moment and applaud you for your beautiful work on this channel. The music selection is one of my favorite parts of your videos. Combined with the beautiful visuals and great story telling, You show a great mastery of this medium that serves to strengthen your authority in your artistic critiques of MTG. Cheers for all your great work.
Always thrilled to see a Rhystic video pop up in my subs, and especially glad to see a return to the Magic Art series. I love a lot of the other content you've been putting out, but your insight into artists and their craft and your delivery of it is always fascinating. I love the style and charm of your videos. Keep it up!
Rhystic, I found you a few months ago binged every episode of your channel. I love your work so much. I love the art of magic and your analaysis of the artists work gives me a brand new appreciation of their work. Now I always stop to read the artists name when I get a bew card. Thank you!

the Homage to The Divine Comedy is epic. stunning. wonderful. Your videos are always just so perfect, Sam. Thanks for taking the time to always going to great lengths to make these. All the best dude :)
Hey man, I love your videos. I also love the Gift of Orzhova art by Johannas Voss. I know several other channels have covered him but I really love the style of your videos so I was hoping we might see a spotlight on him! Always looking forward to your knew stuff as well as enjoying a rewatch of your past videos, keep up the great work!
I didnt notice Sids work at first but now I can really respect his love for his craft and how he makes you feel a certain way with each of his works, thanks for the video!
I’ve been playing mtg since revised, and I’ve always loved the art. I could never tell you why, as I have no understanding or even an inkling as to the process and factors of creation. Videos like yours that go in depth into an artist’s style and methods give me great joy to be able to understand why I like the art so much beyond simply “cool dragon bro”. Thank you for these, and I hope to see many more.
Another maxed out video! Every time I watch one of these I agree with every point you make. You put into words what I only subconsciously notice. Love the content and good wishes!
Sid's got some great art that always reminds me of Rockwell and others. Demon of Catastrophe in full view versus MTG card size gives me pause as it is an amazing piece of work. I don't know why people still say "MTG doesn't have artists who paint anymore, they all use computers." I show them Sid's work and others that do still paint artwork, and they go quiet. Disrupt Decorum, Midnight Reaper, and Trostani, Selesnya's Voice (GRN Guild Kit version) are some of my favorite pieces Sid has done. Great work as always Sam! Might I add that despite being "newer" to the MTG art scene Sid is turning into one of my favorite artists. Also, also, seeing how twitter has been going . . . ignore the negative and focus on what you want to create. YOU are the content creator and if people don't like it, then they can either make their own art appreciation videos or shut up. =)
Really liking these artist docs. Makes you look at the art on a magic card in a different way. It's such a key component of the game. Keep up the awesome work 👍
I would love to see an Analysis on Wylie Beckert. They have such an interesting use of geometry that every time I see a card with their art, it always pops out.
These videos make me appreciate cards that are known to be bad/unplayable/draft chaff due to the art. Sometimes it motivates me to build a deck around them sometimes, even if they won't turn up to be as strong as most other decks. Love your work.
Wonderful as always. I know it would require a titanic effort but I would really love to see one of these videos about Christopher Moeller, who stopped making Magic cards not long ago after many years.
I'm a very recent newcomer to the game, and Pouncing Lynx was one of the first cards I happened to get, immediately I knew I had a strong contender for my favourite MTG illustrator (and the flavor quote is just the icing on the cake lol)
1:00 the dog is cracking me up - In what a picture has to say, I highly recommend Scott Mclouds - "Guide to undestanding Comics", 12:35 I wonder if the painting WAS just turned sideways to reach the described effect.
Goddamn, that Demon art is on a token?! That really does feel like a waste. It feels like some 8+ mana mythic from Return to Return to Innistrad. Incredible artist and I loved this video.
Really missed you, Sam! Hope you are feeling well and refreshed. And thank you for another study on another great artist and, as usual, for elevating our minds leaving us wanting more. You are, yourself, a piece of art.
