  • On this trip we chose to explore the breathtaking area known as the Red River Gorge Canyon.
This group of strangers would soon become friends. Friends bonded through campfire talks, trail exploration, relaxing kayak paddles, rewarding hikes and lastly by coming together to help one of our own make it through one of the scariest moments we’ve ever encountered.
Keep watching to see what you can learn from our time exploring the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway (DBBB).
Leave us a comment, like and give a follow. Day 2 of this trip will be posted soon.

Red River Gorge in Slade Kentucky, what draws 75000 people here every year to this popular explorer area? Is it seeing some of the estimated 150 natural rock arches? This intricate canyon system features an abundance of high sandstone cliffs, rock shelters, waterfalls, and natural bridges.
Have you ever vacationed in a place that makes you think “This place is so amazing, this place brings my soul peace, I could see myself staying here forever?
We would begin our 2 days of exploring the DBBB by heading north from Slade to see the erie Nada Tunnel. This tunnel is dark, narrow, jagged and long enough at 900 feet that you can’t make out the headlights of the oncoming traffic. Enter with caution and move slowly to keep from hitting the 13 foot tall walls.
From here we would cross the metal Route 77 Bridge to make a left onto North Fork Rd and a right on Spaas Creek Rd that would lead us to our first sign of a trail. Here is where things began to get interesting for us.
What roads / trails are available while running the DBBB? Also what offroad parks are close by? Well the parks close by are Hollerwood offroad park and here is a video review I did on that park --- • Hollerwood Off-Road Pa...
From what I hear, The Bone Yard Park is now closed.
1st lets bring up the fact that the DBBB is located in Eastern Kentucky and is comprised of a trail system that works its way through Powell, Estill, Lee, Wolfe, and Menifee Counties.
Some of the roads and attractions you'll want to look for are, Nada Tunnel, Route 77 Bridge, Fixer Rd, Cave Fork, Turkey Foot, Mill Creek, Indian Ridge, Spaas Creek, Town Hollow, Lairson Rd, Old Fincastle Rd, Big Andy Rd., Pumpkin Hollow, Cold Fork Rd, Brushy, Meyers Fork Rd., West Liberty, Cow Creek Rd, High Rock Rd, Mnt Springs Rd., Furnace Pilot Rd., and others.
You're best bet is to buy a map from Cartotracks for a few dollar's. That's what we did and it got us around easy and we found some great descriptions of each area online.

😅@@discover4x4 Hannes found a turtle and thought I would like it. He came over, reached in the window and dropped it on my lap. Um yeah, I didn't like it. LOL
