Love this idea, I used your basic idea then made the holding tube 1ft long, and made the 2" barrel 4ft long to make it into a mortar. (No bigger outer pipe) I also replaced the plastic adapter 2" to 1/2 inch, to a pvc coupler with 2" thread on one side, then a steel adapter from 2" to 3/4, 3/4 to 1/2 adapter for durability.. this thing shoots about 400+ ft with the Nerf whistling vortex footballs.. So thank you for idea..👍🏻
you should make this with a trigger lock and a spring loaded trigger release system that way when you open the ball valve it make a quicker open and releases the gas quicker. You have inspired me to fiddle with this a bit.
Reach, you magnificent bastard; I decided to catch up on your videos from the last couple months and was just thinking, "I would love to pick up a Corporate Approved patch." So you're the first youtuber who's merch I've ever bought. Congrats.
The only problem with this is most solenoid valves can’t handle the pressure differential that a co2 cartridge supplies (~800-900psi discharge). I tried this idea myself and couldn’t get the valve to open under pressure.
Nice work Reach that's pretty cool. This reminds me of the potato cannons we made long long ago in a state far far away even before PVC was created. It was so long ago we taped tin cans together for the tube then punched a tiny hole in one side about 2" in from the bottom can for lighter fluid to be squirted in and a match to set it off and was it ever loud not to mention dangerous too but it was fun. (Evil Grin) Muah ha ha ha haaaa.
@@CallsignReach Maybe you can use those Nerf mortars like FOX GREEN used for his aerial assault drone that made a cool whistling sound just like a real incoming mortar.
Hey I made my self this today. I had a Wolverine bolt co2 adapter laying around which I used and the rest was 40$ at aces. I also used my vx-1 breakable caps by matrix for their vx1 40mm grenades filled it with powder and attached it to a thunder b trip wire shell and it made a prefect rocket that explodes with chalk on impact and is reusable!! You can also add folding fins to the rocket that fold one way and are held by tape which add spin to your rocket which adds range. This thing is epic! Edit you can also re position the handle to be more like a squeeze function on the real LAW
I improved on this design a little bit and made an actual spring loaded trigger mechanism, similar to the LAW launcher. I’ll post a video once I finish the remainder of the 3D printed parts.
I wonder if I could put a compressed air adapter (with hose) instead of a CO2 adapter use a second ball valve to control the flow rate into the compression chamber. 🤔🤔🤔 Long term would save more money than the $1 a shot CO2 especially since my field refills Airtanks for free. Even if I had to quick detach the air tank between shots it wouldn't be a problem, might increase immersion for longer reloads
That’s a better method! I’ve been trying to figure out an HPA solution. The CO2 isn’t the best system even though it’s probably the most readily available.
HPA fill nipple with a 1/2” male thread connector. They make them; the one I have is made by Tippmann. Either that or find a way to connect the tank directly to your assembly. Be advised, working with HPA is dangerous; you need to make sure that the pressure of your air rig does not exceed the pressure rating on your pipes or you’re going to have a really bad time. I’ve also had a lot of problems with the connectors not retaining their seal. I have been working on an HPA launcher and I’ve had multiple decompressions - extremely loud and potentially dangerous. I would honestly advise against making your own unless you really know what you’re doing.
@@CallsignReach Understood! Final question.. Does this version of CO2 cartridges also have potentially hazardous problems cause I’m only going to build it for a few launches!
Suggestions: Shot-cup that seals tightly to the barrel wall. Wad seal to pack into the barrel after loading the ammo in the shot cup, to keep your ammo from falling out of the cup/barrel while on the move. Electric gas valve and battery pack to eliminate the clumsy ball valve arrangement. 3/8" gas line nipple to replace the 12g cartridge tube. Shoot all day with a 48 oz lumbar-mounted CO2 tank. Increased volume captive gas chamber to increase velocity/range of shot. Grenade launcher sight so you have some idea of what you're shooting at.
I built one that uses the propane bottle ignition system and everyone called it a bomb. The thing is it worked and thats why people made that excuse. Some people in the airsoft community forget its a game.
I've found it fun to take a funnel and dump a bunch of popcorn kernels or airsoft bbs down in. Then shove tissues or paper towels to hold them in and you now have a shotgun rocket launcher.
I have messed around with solenoids - I’ve had a hard time finding one that’s wide enough and has enough power to handle the pressure. I found one that uses a ball valve but I haven’t sat down to figure out a power supply yet.
An interesting and potentially better option is using Captain Xavier's Drainblaster bazooka build, it has far more payload options, is way less fiddly, does not require Co2 cartridges, and might not have cold weather problems.
I’m so early it’s in 144p but do I care.........hell no wait Edit: wait I’m not early UA-cam said it was out for 6 minutes but still I love this video also I’m putting together a great corporate approved load out
I've built the exact configuration...however mine seems to not use all the C02 in one shot. I am able to throw the ball back in and fire again. The release even if I open the valve all the way doesn't push it all out fast enough? Any ideas? Is my adapter probably bad. 🤷🏼♂️
I'd like to see you upgrade the trigger from a ball valve to a 12vdc solenoid valve with a battery. It would open faster and you wouldn't have to get out of firing position to work the trigger, a simple push button would do fine. Or get really tricked out and use a military style switch with a red safety cover that gets flipped out of the way for the switch to work.
How does a 3" to 4" drain adapter even fit in here? There are no 3" pipes anywhere. It looks like it should be maybe a 4" to 5" or 6" adapter on the back?
i think it could be improved by using plastic blast discs so all the gas instantly propels the projectile in one explosion instead of a hiss, also the projectile being 100% airtight would help make it as powerful as possible.
Use a small bike pump and an air reservoir instead of a CO2 thing. Maybe you could have some plugs to convert the space between the barrel and shell to an air reservoir.
You could skip the two elbows that make the curve and connect the ball valve directly to the back of the barrel. The most important part is that you have a good air seal and have at least a five-inch pipe as a reservoir for the CO2 to stay in after you puncture it with he adapter. Other than that, I’ve seen people customize the system in a bunch of different ways. I’m pretty sure that the launcher would be crazy long if you skipped the curve though; the curve is primarily to accommodate space and make it easier to operate while holding it.
Hi Reach! Loved your launcher! Why don't you use 3" pipe so you can fire tennis balls? I think they're way safer. You might check the launcher I've made, it uses gasoline and it's much cheaper to use than CO2 cartridges. Greetings!
Does anyone think it would be a good idea to replace the ball valve with a solenoid valve? I think it would be much easier to just press a button rather than slap the gas into the launcher, and it would definitely stabilize it a bit more
I would check the size of the reservoir pipe (the one you connect the CO2 cartridge to). If that pipe isn’t big enough, it won’t have enough power to launch. The parts that hold pressure should be steel, but it should connect to the PVC “barrel” section.
I have a question hopefully you or someone can answer. I'm trying to take this a step further. Do you think if I add 2 CO2 adaptors for dual co2 cartridge to increase the pressure is a bad idea? I'm trying to make it better so I can point straight shoot and hit my target without having to compensate so much and risk missing.
So I have an adapter for a 90g CO2 cartridge that I’m trying to rig up. I tried attaching a remote line and it seemed a little too dangerous for my taste (and blew my hearing out when I accidentally depressurized the pipe).
