xDuoo X2S REVIEW! A modern Sansa Clip?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 вер 2024
- I love small DAPs. Ever since I got a Sansa Clip way back when, I've loved the idea of a tiny, no-frills audio player that sounds good. So is xDuoo's new X2S a modern version of the Clip? It's got tiny down, and I'll spoil this much: It has big DAP power. But is that enough?
See the xDuoo X2S on Amazon: amzn.to/3fiM4z5
FYI: I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

USB-C , Plays .FLACs, Support Micro-SD, A really worthy device.
This looks like a good deal, $60 to drive most headphones portably is nice.
The original X2 had similar issues, but I did love it for travelling.
I found that when I transferred files using clementine instead of file browser the tracks came through in the right order.
Notice that too
@@diegotm4365 I think it's because clementine must do single threaded transfers, hence each file is uploaded to the device in sequence
I tried Clementine but the problem persists! Do you transfer file by file? So far only tried a folder at a time and it gives the same haphazard organisation of the files. Annoying!
@@sonfx I use the full on on device syncing with generated folders etc
@@itsPenguinBoy thanks for your reply. Wasn't expecting anything on such an old comment! I don't think I'm following. I use "organise files" on Clementine and choose the x2s as destination. Is there another way? Thanks again 🙏🏻
Comprehensive review! Thank you!
if you want blutooth you can use a blutooth portable transmiter / receiver.
Monoprice makes one that support aptx Hd and has a built in battery. It's a little bit bigger then the X2s.
Plug in a short 3.5 mm male to male wire and set it transmiter mode and just connect your blutooth headphone to the transmiter.
I note your comments about the Shanling M0, but there are different use cases. I have a use case for a small DAP - which is why I am watching this review - and the M0 is almost the perfect DAP for that. I have the X2S and the M0, along with the HiBy R3 Pro 2022, and an old iPod Nano, and I have to agree with you that the X2S is a nice choice. The M0 makes sense for the Use I need of it, but it's a tossup between the two. Thank you for your opinion - very hrlpful.
Compulsion wow
All your songs that I've seen since I've watched your channel are in my library :)
the 10 minutes is a dealbreaker unless you leave it on
@@donvittoriosierra i use it more on my ears than a on pc. For me is just ok. Probably with less file number the reading time is more shorter.
FWIW, it only rebuilds the database when inserting the memory card -- not every time it turns on.
@@SuperReview ahh ok I was thinking it was like the sony a45/55 in rebuilding after every power on. In that case, its fine
All I want is a lossless player that supports gapless, replay gain and has a microsd slot. Why is that seemingly still so hard in 2021? The Clip+/Clip Zip have never been equalled let alone improved on.
Clip is pretty good.
I loved my Sansa Clip. It's a shame this doesn't really live up to that standard.
I'm glad people remember it 👍
I had a clip as well. It was cool but I preferred my creative zen micro and ipod. But these days, the sony a55 is just better imo and not too expensive.
@@donvittoriosierra The Sony A55 is $218 on sale. The Sansa Clips are ~$35
It's not a bad deal this unit. I like one device to carry whenever possible, so the phone will mostly be the reason I can't go for this. I like your bomb.
The bomb is a lot of fun.
Does it have FM radio? If so, does it allow you to record the radio like the Sansa did/does?(if like me, you still own one)
Agreed,.. the older Sansa with the FM record feature is Very handy. A Great device for sure.. !
Simple & functional. It would be a no brainer for me if the battery can last for at least 15 hours. I personally like the old school UI on this but due to the price point, I'm kind of stuck between this & the fiio m3pro. 🤷🏻
Yeah IMO M3 Pro is a much better device.
while it cant run Rockbox which is why I am a fan of some of the older Sansa's ... I still like the older (various models) better but the "Victure M3" is close when comparing it to the Sansa Clip+ i used for 5+ years before it died on me. It just has one major but ... sometimes the tracks can be out of order in the music (mp3 id3 tag basically) mode but "updating" (it just scans for new mp3s) the database a SECOND time usually fixes this bug
Big thx for this. Not many info about it on the web.
I am the guy who dont care wifi, bluetooth and fancy screens ect. I care custom eq, sound quality, folder view and easy use without seeing the device on a portable player. After my 2nd 100$ sony player my eye was on this. My Sonys just started making weird cracking noise while playing music after few years. Both did it. So annoying. (what a nice job for a big company like sony..)
First I miss from this a small hole to wear it around my neck (like sony did). Btw nice observations from you, thx for the detailed review. It need serious fw upgrade. I miss a real trying of the EQ and its true effect. Many device turns down the volume if using the eq. Or just makes very small difference in sound. I saw the fiio m3 pro, but there is no custom eq. Of course deal breaker.
Another thing: I just dont like when you say you have two team of the players, good or bad sounding. There is oblivious difference between players. In my family here is a huawei phone which is sound warm, full bodied with nice soundstage, but just not enough loud and a true A/B ing its clearly hearable makes human voice sounds like a cat meowing. I just cant listen Michael Jackson - you are not alone on it. Sound just digital meowing. And. The bass. Many player just cant push the bass. Bcause they havent true power to be dinamic enough. The bass is defenetly can show the player capability. Cheap players often has no good bass. And of course there is colorisation. Warm, cold ect. One of my sonys is very warm sounding. Compare to my tablet which is brighter with less body.
Am not pro audiophile. But this things i think need a bit more describe from you. Am on the 100$ range iems and players, but these are clearly hearable things for me too. Use it a well known iem like tinT2 and check it sounds and differencies.
And sorry am not a fan of the live chat. Makes less informative the comments later.
Thank you again for this. I hope manufacturer starts making cheap, simple and good sounding players which are clearly better than a phone. Thats all what i need.
Can only speak for my experience, but I have a device that lets me instantly A-B between two sources and every time I use it, I either hear (a) one device is clearly worse, significantly colored tone, muffled, or noisy, or (b) it sounds good. Anything beyond those distinctions -- again, in my experience -- is rarely significant, and likely placebo.
Fiio m3 pro custom EQ is arrived. Good news!
Does it sound full, thin, transparent, dense. Does the highs extend, does the bass go low?? Is there roll off in the bass. Does it sound wide?? Narrow?
It sounds like a neutral DAP. It does those things if your music does.
Are my IEMs of choice too sensitive or is the X2S hissy as all hell? I got some cheap pioneer headphones and with those I can hear a faint white noise. But with the Blon Bl-03s it's like 80% static. Maybe a defective unit?

New XDuoo X2S MP3 formatted on laptop. that took me two days to load, worked ok until I used devices create playlist in menu. player failed and deleted music off Micro SD card. I could not get it to work again even after factory reset.

I see you like gunship
Nice
Dude the duration of this video.. super indeed
About half of it is just audience Q&A.
Could put up with the library build time but album order is kind of a deal breaker. Tempted though, so cute!
Yeah, I'm an album listener, and track order kinda important.
Nice review although I'd like to ask, does it have folder playthrough?
(if it plays everything in one folder it starts playing the next folder)
I'm sorry if this was in the video, I didn't catch it.
Sorry, I don't remember, it may be in the video.
Are you planing to review the moded ipod classics from elite obsolete electronics any time soon?
I wasn't familiar with them until you asked. Looks interesting.
I don't mind most of the weaknesses that you mention except noises. What is it again that dongle to clear out the noise?
iFi IEMatch
@@SuperReview damn that's even more expensive than the DAP here
There's a cheaper version iFi sells. I haven't used it, but probably does the same thing but without the switch (which I think is unnecessary for me).
Hmmm was considering to buy this lets see:
-Long scanning time...think I can somehow mitigate this by only adding music to the card when its charging
-song r in alphabetical order...does it also applies on folder browsing? Will adding numbers on the song's title solve that?
-hissing om IEM...I actually planning to use this for my cheapo 150 ohm superlux hd330 & hd660
-setting got reset...think I'm not gonna use the settings until it got fixed
Really tempted to buy this dap considering the power...
Browsing by folder helps with the song order if your files have track number up front, yes... though confusingly, sometimes they're still out of order. I don't get it. They did at least make a firmware update that fixes the setting that got reset.
This is very good & Cute looking than previous X2. this is better sound than X2 sound?
I did not year the original.
When you press all music option does that randomly play all your music and change every time you choose the option or does it play all music in order the same every time you choose it?
Sorry, I don't follow.
@@SuperReview Does this have random playing of tracks
Yes, you can navigate to All songs and then use Shuffle playback mode.
@@SuperReview Thanks
The problem with these players is always the software. Why they won′t just use rockbox? It′s frustrating.
I don't think it's a matter of "let." Getting Rockbox to work on a device requires effort from the development community.
I have fiio m3 pro as my dap but sometimes I feel like it might break if it somehow slips from my hands(cause it's a glass sandwich)
That's why I was thinking of getting of xduoo x2s, because of its full metal build...
One thing though, still waiting for Fiio to add a custom eq setting on the m3 pro.
the new firmware on m3 pro will come within this month, maybe tomorrow and they'll add custom eq

Can i play it into car audio system? Which output for car audio? I use dsp in my car.
can i get a DAP recomendation?
I only use low impedance IEMs and I dont care about android.
Edit: I mostly care about sound quality
Sony A45 / A55 are my favorite simple DAPs.
maybe hidizs ap80 pro or fiio m3 pro, those are good with sensitive iems
I have a question for you. What you recommend as a mp3 player. I am looking looking something small. With a better sound than the Sony nw a45 and with more volume. Some iem I have I can hardy ear from the Sony. And better quality. So same size as the Sony or smaller for gym. Better quality and better sound and more volume. Thanks
A45 is one of my favorite players. Fiio stuff tends to have a bit more power, or something like Hiby R5s for similar size.
@@SuperReview you mention a45. I have that one. Just I wish I could have a bit more bands in eq and power. Because all of my iem have a different sound some of them a bit to crisp for me so I like to lower the highs and boost the mid bass of the 500hz for the voice to be more natural. So the r3 has a bit less power. Correct
I am new to audiophile can you please tell me should I buy this or a dac like ibasoo. I just bought zsn pro x (both costs around 120 dollars in my country)
A $9 Apple dongle will be better than the X2S for your ZSN.
I just got this player, and I had some questions, so I'm hoping you can help me.
1. Is there an update media library option? My tracks aren't showing under "All Songs", I can only see them in Folder view
2. How do you shuffle your tracks?
Thanks for your help.
I think mine updated the library automatically when I inserted a card with the power turned on. Not sure about shuffling.
@@SuperReview Thank you so much! This helped a lot. I thought if you put a card in while it was turned off, it would update, but it has to be on, then the card inserted. I also figured out how to shuffle tracks. I guess it has a database limit, which I didn’t realize before buying the player. Hoping they increase it in a firmware update because I have over 10000 tracks, and it only reads 4000 off my 128 GB card.
@@reesespieces22 DATS A LOTTA MUSIC
@@reesespieces22 how do you shuffle the music?
might be worth revisiting the scanning problems after firmware v1.3 as apparently they sorted some issues out and added changes some making this player better. i don't own one but i saw a video as im back looking for a very basic dap i watched this video when i came out and again now.. as my fiio m6 is bugging me.lol
They addressed some things, but my music still is out of order :\
@@SuperReview hehehe maybe in the next update if they get enough feedback and listen to users..
Is it good with the kz zsn pro? Is the hiss heard while playing or no music?
It will likely hiss.
How is the audio quality compare to LG g7?
I always find such daps difficult to navigate. Or maybe I am too used to modern touch devices haha
Android devices definitely have the easiest UIs, but there's something about these button-clicking UIs I still kinda like.
Is this good to pair with hifiman he400i 2020?
Could you reccommend me a budget dap? Preferably something similar in price ($60) but without the hiss on low empedance headphones. Can't really afford a $200 Sony or even a $100 Shanling.
Fiio M3 Pro is solid.
@@SuperReview The fiio M3 Pro is $150 where I live, kinda out of my budget. Any suggestions for something a bit more, cheaper?
I couldn't create playlist... I choose to create... So you create... The playlists created appear, but no music in them
I bought the starfield but I don't know if it is just my unit but I really don't like them. The bass to my ears isn't impactfull but the worst part for me is the treble. Although not bright but it sounds unatural to my ears and has some harshness to it (somewhat sibilant?),I think thin sounding is the best to describe it. the crash sounds like tsss instead of tshh. Is it just me?
I would start with tip rolling and making sure you're getting a good seal, but also trust your ears. We don't all hear things the same. I find the bass on Starfield is decent, maybe a tad loose and bloated, and the treble is a bit mushy.
@@SuperReview I tried them with some regular wide bore tips. I also has the1st gen samsung akg earphones. They sound very similar but the starfield is flatter and a bit wider while the akg is more v shaped with more forward and narrower presentation but the treble is thin sounding on both to my ears.
So.... Is also a spinner 😮
Well Dunno who would use it in home. This is PERFECTION for Runner like myself Would not change a thing. Well would add usb C PLUG. Its simple Navigation is great pres button boom 2 hour running set time to go for 20km jog.

I'm being lazy and not sitting through 40 minutes only to discover my question may not even be covered.
Does it have a resume function so that I can leave an audio midway and come back to the same spot next time I turn it on - like the sansa Fuze does/did?
Thanks.
did this ever get a firmware upgrade, should i go for the x3 instead
There was at least one firmware update, didn't fix my issues.
Have you had a chance to cheque out the Shanling Q1? It's currently my main DAP.
I haven't used it, but it looks like a better size than the M0.
The q1, while pretty basic, is really nice for its price, though I wish they did the reviewer purple as a main color as the colors aren't great
@@doubleXnickel Yeah my main two gripes with it are the button placement and how easy it is to hit them due to their size relative to the players size. There is a hack where you cut out the rubber case impressions so they're more recessed. The other gripe being that due to the screen size when scrolling for an artist if you scroll down its very easy to swipe back to the main screen. I got the 'light stone blue' as it's called in Chinese. I would prefer a navy or royal blue as this looks more like a turquoise to me. But yeah overall i'm pretty satisfied with it. The battery life, for my listening habits anyway, is quite good.
Do you know if is possible to balance L/R audio channels?
On this player? I don't think so.
@@SuperReview Yeah. On this player.
Is there a clip for it? Where can I find it? Need it for running
Officially don't think so.
Hi Mark,
How much quality we're losing when switching from Aux to Bluetooth SBC and how can we measure it ?
Assuming we're using the same super quality song, same IEM (once connecting it via Aux, once using Bluetooth adapter).
There's a article in the SoundGuys that talks about the compression in each bluetooth codec, but a video would be nice indeed
Wassup Heads up new firmware 1.3 added DAC option for pc and fixedScanning NOW its perfect !!!

@@SuperReview I tried Zen Lites 300omm sounds great.
Is this a good option with sensitive iem's like blon bl03 & moondrop SSR?
Those two should be good on it. The player has some hiss, but those are not exactly sensitive IMO.
Did you buy it? How is it working?is it a good upgrade from your smart phone.
@@shreyash6495 yes I've bought it and is working well. I found it better than the basix mobile sound. The only thing is it somewhat sounds technical, what I mean by this is that you may find it bit soft in the bass department and little elevated in treble region.
