2160 Crystal Scavenger was the second lego set I ever purchased in the 90's! The black/green tool at 7:00 is supposed to be a sort of underwater propulsion transport with a crystal-digging drill attached. Great review!
I remember buying set 2162 from Zellers sometime around 2002-2003, which is pretty far off it's release date. Back then, things didn't circulate off the shelves as quick and Lego wasn't really viewed as a collectable as it is now so it was possible to find old sets from time to time in retail. I remember being amazed at the box. It had a flip-up top and display tray. Those ornate boxes were a bit before my time, and finding one like that as a kid felt like stumbling across a treasure. Production of these was right around the worst of Lego's financial troubles, so they're fairly difficult sets to find. Personally, my favorite color scheme and figure design in the Aquazone theme.
Fun fact that I only have knowledge of because I've bought about 10 of them for a MOC, the trans neon green chainsaw blade is exclusive to this set. I've been lucky enough to find them for about $1-$2 each but they easily go upwards of $3-$5
Wow the total memory recall for me on this was wild, I had the reef wrecker set growing up and didn't remember until just seeing it again now but I loved that set! It's weird how many little details came flooding back from seeing it again.
5:18 i always thought the same! They look quite out of place being black with blue and red prints. I think lego must have printed too many of them for spyrius and may have been re-used. Still the color scheme of this theme is so cool and unique, I love it
Part of what I think was happening with Lego at the time would be themes would often run for more than a year or two, and extra figures would end up in newer themes and little bits like those would end up in future themes to make use of them. Time Cruisers and Time Twisters were a very creative use of lots of these strange extra components!
I remember my first "big" Lego set was one of the aqua raider series, specifically the one with the giant shark submarine. Then I dipped it into the tub and it fell apart.
Aquazone was the best underwatter theme
I loved the eyes on the submarines, reminds me of those old WW2 planes that would have eyes and mouths painted on them.

I remember getting this set for Christmas the Hydro reef wrecker.

These are way better than I expected. Love the green on green with black. Awesome review!
Glad you thought so! Thanks for watching! 😁

Ohhh, that set I had came with two miniatures and one guy had the green hook, I used that hook to indicate my hero when I made MOCs

I've never seen anything from this theme in the wild. I guess lego's formula was trans neon + basic color = theme.
Yes! That does appear to be the usual formula…but that’s what I love about them! 😁🙌
Nice Review! nice double feature i love that theme, but i wonder why they have eyes?
I don’t know about the eyes either! But definitely interesting! 😂
do you keep your sets or are you a build it and then sell it again type of person?
Keep! 😂😂 I can’t part with them!
