    I've lived on boats for about 15 yrs of my life, Hawaii, Georgia, and Key West, ain't no damn way I would ever ride out a hurricane on a boat. We always went to shore, local hotel or got the hell out of dodge. (Pride be damned)
    Glad to hear these folks made it thru..
    Ian buzzed us here in Key West, relatively untouched in perspective.

    We are two years almost to the week out from a direct hit Cat 4 named Laura and a Cat 3 named Delta in SW Louisiana. We lost almost everything. We are not rebuilt yet. Good luck in Florida, building material prices are in the stratosphere and still not readily available, not to mention the lack of skilled workers, and plenty of shyster contractors that will try to take advantage of you, along with wrestling with the Insurance companies. Good luck and God Bless.

I assure you he's the most honest worker you'd ever find but he was taken advantage of by some of those shysters too. So it's not just you victims being victimized. Now he's headed south to do it all over again (thankfully he lives in the FL Panhandle so he's not that far from home) and just praying he doesn't get taken advantage of, he's too kind hearted and deeply hoping to help folks!! Prayers with y'all as well as FL and my friend!!

Yes, they probably found the one trailer park still in existence for maximum emotional effect, but this storm hit rich and poor alike, and the beachfront mostly belongs to the wealthy. Of course, no matter what happens, the poor will suffer the most. They always do. So try your best not to be poor. And help your neighbor if you can.

    • @sc100ott
      @sc100ott Рік тому +2

      Well, it turns out that people really like to live where the weather is warm, and people really like to live near the water, stroll on the beach, swim in the ocean, and be where the action is. Yes, there’s a risk of hurricane, but most places are insured, and there’s usually a couple of days of advanced warning to get out of the way. So you might lose a few things. Or, there might not be another big storm for 25 years or more. That’s why people chose to live there. They don’t have to worry about earthquakes, or blizzards, or wildfires, or volcanic eruptions. Plus, they can wear shorts and flip flops all year long.

    4 months before Ian hit, condo owners in Fort Myers Beach unleashed a pack of separate lawsuits trying to stop the 'Low-light Turtle Law' which for some years has required all lights on the beach to be fitted with yellow/amber lenses for the benefit of baby sea turtles emerging from their nests. When sea turtles are born, they instinctively run toward the light. Historically, the land was dark and the ocean was light from the reflections of the moon and stars. With the condos and hotels bars and businesses all lighting up the beach, baby turtles have been running to the highway. The yellow and amber lenses helped the turtles. So do not feel sorry for these nasty selfish inconsiderate people of Fort Myers Beach. Thank Ian instead that the turtles may yet live.

    If you own a beach property and you can't afford to lose it, then you should sell it to someone who can afford to lose it and move inland. I have to roll my eyes at the distraught people "who lost everything" from a hurricane. It's like watching someone take their life savings to a casino and then crying when they lose it. What did you expect would happen? Hurricanes are a fact of life in these areas.
