Big Daddy Don Garlits- this man was so cool. When I was a kid I used to watch him. I envied him and wanted to grow up and be just like him. He was an American hero to us. A real man- A Flesh and Blood hero. He's 27 years older than me. The kind of guy you can look up to. Thank you Don Garlits you will always be inspirational.
Is such a shame that the new generation barely knows anything about the Windsor series engines and the Chevy series engines of those eras let alone the flatheads. My dad ran El mirage...... One of his flatheads turned 211 mph..... Normally aspirated... In the stecker brothers streamliner.... The new gen can't even understand or comprehend that such performance was capable back then..... The tq those engines had was phenomenal!!!! If you played and drove to those strengths, the performance was incredible.
Don's memory hasnt faded. He always tells a great story. UK here and friends who have visited his museum only have good to say about him too. Proper bloke.
Wow, I can't believe I'm actually listening to Big D, and how with it he is. An amazing man, with a history never to be beat. I look fwd to more of his stories. Thanks for posting.
NOTHING sounds as cool as a hot, well tuned flathead Ford V8. I'm a 38-year-old GM guy, so it's all about LSs, SBCs, and some big-blocks for me, but man, that SOUND...
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Don many times over the years at Englishtown . A wonderful man with a lot of interesting stories and knowledge to share. A national treasure .
I got to see him set the High Altitude record I think it was the Mellow Yellow Nationals in Colorado Springs at a drag strip that no longer exists had a giant Hill at the end of the strip 👀👀👍👍🇺🇲🇺🇲
My Sharp teacher was quite a character at high school, he actually had one of the first Honda front-wheel drive cars which had a motorcycle in it, he used to do some drag racing so he'd put in the block with concrete, he couldn't afford the epoxy.
CLASSIC! Not many people left to say it any better! and YES! BIG HEMI, BIG MONEY! BIGGER GAS AND REPAIR BILLS/ and that is if it can be kept in a straight line. Otherwise there BLOWS UP the construction project on the next 6bedroom 4bath house with a swimming pools, and hot tubs
We were blessed to have this man on earth. I hope people were listening to what he had to say.
Don Garlits never disappoints!!! Keep the stories and history flowing... Thanks
I will. I am trying to upload the entire 2 hour tour right now.
You sharing some of Don's stories with the world through YT is a noble thing. Thank you.

My pleasure and duty. I have learned a lot listening to him.

Yes, that is why we need to share with others these videos! Thanks for watching!
Don Garlits is a treasure to have in our world!
That is why I put this videos together, so we can use him as an example of work ethic, innovation and frugality.
Enjoyed!!!! 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it

Why do you talk in the past tense? The man is not dead.

Big Daddy puts the Eveready Bunny to shame with his endless energy and enthusiasm. He's one of our national treasures.
Yes, he says that he has difficulty to get to sleep, thinking about all the projects he still has!
Chatlie hogan was a very good friend of my family's. Would love to hear more stories about him & Don's racing days together
He mentions him in some of our videos as the Big Dog, the local guy to beat! His car is in the museum.
Big daddy has probably forgotten more about engines and racing than most people will ever know in their life - he is a true legend
The flathead engine was one of the best engines ford ever built.
In 1932.
@@Malibu1515 You never drove an early 50's flathead built by Dick Padar.
@@Malibu1515 wait till you write in one going 200 plus mph!!!!!!
I like that little Triumph chopper..

Concrete? Different indeed!
This guy has seen the entire history of drag racing......and is even a large part of that history.
He is the one! great that he still around!
Long live the flathead!

We Better make time before the legand is gone people
hi, how much does a guided don g TOUR cost?
$100
It would be nice to see more interest from the younger crowd.
Flat heads sound great without mufflers.
Oh yes, is like a beefier and more refined Harley motor.
Hey Big, which one has more wind that truck fan or you? Not serious, just pokin ya a little! LOL
