2025 Mecum Kissimmee-SOLD OR NOT SOLD -1976 Tommy Ivo's funny car- Classic Car market update
In our previous Mecum video "4,000 cars in one day"
, we take on the incredible challenge of reviewing 4,000 classic cars for sale at the Mecum Kissimmee auction. Well, one day was not enough, so we came back on January 10 to cover the areas that we previously missed. Like a kid in a candy store combined with the determination of a 101st Airborne paratrooper on D-Day, we dive in with our modest camera setup and trusty walking shoes. Due to the cars constantly being moved through the auction process, we missed a few but ended with the longest and most comprehensive Mecum car review videos on You Tube.
At nearly two hours, this is our longest video yet-and like all our videos, it’s straightforward and no-nonsense. We go car-to-car, sharing a first-look perspective with spontaneous comments and observations. There's no script-just raw, real-time impressions as we navigate the massive crowds and take in the sights.
While we strive to be as accurate as possible, filming on the go can lead to the occasional slip-up. I welcome corrections and fact-checks from my knowledgeable followers. I’m not a walking car encyclopedia like Steve Magnante or David Freiburger-I’m a passionate generalist with a deep love for machines, always learning and growing through your insights.
If you’re a car lover who values substance over fluff, this video is for you. Enjoy, and Muchas gracias for watching!

Great
Deluxo headaah
Nice!
I hope you like the sound of a 426 Hemi!
It's not selling because in this global economy, who on Earth has that kind of money!?
Correct. The people with that kind of money are being careful to invest in appreciating assets.
@Viva-la-Maquina Yea, It's a shame, but I'm not being funny, with the move to electric, it's getting harder and harder to run a modern IC, with all the congestion charges and low emission zones, let alone a (with respect) ancient air cooled brick mobile, and one that's prone to rust and break downs, it's likely only going to go down in value. People just can't take that kind of risk.
@@GrahamW.Freeman you are thinking analytically. What drives the market is usually passion and testosterone. I can find a million other things where to put my money also. thanks
@Viva-la-Maquina Hi, I do apologise if I offended you, I wasn't, I wasn't trying to, I was just stating, VWs are infamous for... Vw-itis And how that effects buying trends, I myself recently purchased a 90s Isuzu, it does about 12-15 MPG at lower speeds and 25-30 at high, nobody in their right mind would get it, but I liked the way it looked, the sound and brutality of its workings.
@@GrahamW.Freeman No worries, Mate! I am not a VW guy, but when I was growing up, I had plenty around me. The salty Caribbean Sea breeze make them rot and while climbing steep long hills we had to get out of the car, because the lack of power.
Cause back then prices and people were stupid
Agreed 100%.
maybe Fluffy would buy it!
It may be Fluffy already!
You never get what you put into it. We keep them alive because we love them. Not for the money. Once the price is this high, the common man will walk away. It's now a garage queen that will sit in a garage and if lucky will go to shows. Keep the shiny side up and have a good day.
Definitely not a 1971
That was my first thought, but that is what the bidder paperwork says. Probably this was manufactured in Brail or Mexico and kept the 60's design? Any VW experts?
@ im sure it was from brazil or Mexico but it still not a 71. They had leftovers and would just change the dates. Volkswagen wouldn’t supply or update the plant so they used all what they had to sell til 74 when VW came back.
LEGEND!
That's pretty wild
You can build a rat Rod version of it!
Could do without the large flat screen!
In their defense, it takes little space when retracted.
@@Viva-la-Maquina Fit is great, I cannot criticize this build..
At $47k I would keep it as well.
Chances are they have more than that in it.
Well $47 is probably the best offer he will get unless someone just can’t live without it.
Agreed. I hope he was not counting on this sale to pay his mortgage. Market may take years to come back.
The beetle looks a little bit like it.
Happy 93rd birthday Big Daddy!!🎂 And many more to come!
Big Daddy's The last of a dying breed I've been to his museum in Ocala several times I believe he was raised around Brandon in plant City
That’s the walk of a hard working man who has busted up his body , you don’t see it anymore
Theres cool then theres beautiful. But this truck has the better end of both of those worlds!❤
Agreed. Somebody spent a lot of time on it.
As soon as I saw the cabins stretched VW T1 shape I had to stop and look again. This came out two years before the Type 1’s release date in 1938! But it is not just the roof line but the fender flairs and tail lights, the little running board that joins the front and back fender flairs, so many things that scream T1. A lovely car for its day and very roomy inside as well. Of course for a fairly large car it is a two door, again like the T1.
Makes sense that Dr. Ferdinand Porsche T1 VW could have been influenced by this Chrysler.
Ahead of it's time.. milage, safety, some didn't have a hinged trunk but a hinged back seat for inside access
It's amazing how many innovative features were first seen on those cars.
@Viva-la-Maquina My Dad was a DeSoto Man until the small block '55 Chevy's were introduced. Ended up with a '57 283 2sp PG
Sold im australia
Aussies this kind of thing!
Hello from Azerbaijan. This car have soul because made by genius people and not like plastic and electric scrap which produces now. Best regards.
I am very happy to have an international reach. I agree this car has soul. I hope that peace will stay for Azerbaijan.
Have a couple at a local wrecking yard.
Nahhh, really?
No, the vw looks like IT !!!
You are right, the VW came two years later.
Rat rod

Zeder breer skelton
No it was designed in 1932-33. The model failed they restyled it and then gave it up.
I should have say: built in 1936. Thanks for your contribution to our channel.
Beautiful car 👍👍
A legendary man talking about another legend!
It's in very good shape for as old as it is very sharp
That's a very cool car
Indeed! I could not believe it is so old!
At a little more than 1/2 his age and been at the sports for only 3 decades,I am so thankful and at awe over his knowledge.i tried to stop at museum this weekend,i will be back!!,god bless him
I know the feeling. It is a nice place to visit
Big Daddy knows - this is one of the baddest looking Funny Cars of the era. Saw it 1st hand at the Last Drag Race- OCIR, 1983. Tom went on to race another car later in his career; a really nice '57 Chevy. It was a huge hit here SoCal back in the late 80s, early 90s.
I liked Tom . He was like the business man among racers. He had this ability to get sponsors that most racers do not have.
Great place to visit.. bigger then life..guy.! My dad was a big fan..i restored an old in ground Rotary lift..with a oil tank..its now back in service in my home shop garage..oil tank above ground one moving part.!
That is awesome!
That stripe kit is going to be everywhere on everything. Sorta like the amber light grille in the masses copied off the Raptor
I love stripes also. Is a simple way to spruce a car looks.
So good my Dad had this combo in the bronco I have an 85 like this in blue
Let’s make the stripes come back!
Absolutely beautiful. Id gladly drive this.
You and me both!
I'd rock that thing! She's sweet!
And yet so simple! Thanks for your contribution!
They look pretty nice.
They do. Thanks for watching!
Sunday Sunday Sunday Be there
Beautiful car. Love '59 Caddy's. Although you need a garage a mile long to protect it. Awesome survivor car. Not bad price at $9900.
It's a lot of car for the price.
It's not a nomad nomads had a curved door window line like a Vette this is just like a 150 or 210 handyman wagon
Thanks for your contribution. I am glad I posted this as a question.
Cool man cool rods
My Uncle Chuck built a jalopy when he got out of the army. When he drove up to the house in it and asked how we liked his jalopy with the aoogah horn. I was about 3 and thought he said salopy. That name stuck and that's what he called it from then on.
Salopy? You did better than me. At three, my uncle had a Volkswagen. I sure as hell could not pronounce that, so I called it tactayoyo. No even close!
Sweet❤
Love the simplicity.
Hey Don , do you remember a guy named Kenny Arnold ? (Screwdrivers) pre 1960
Beautiful ride.
And super cool too!
