    Best review I’ve seen yet. Glad you mentioned us walkers in this. I have a titanium hip & was told I can’t run if I want it to last at least 15 years, so it’s “power walking” from now on!

    Thanks for putting out this great comparison video! I really suffered with plantar fasciitis and arthritis in my ankles until found the Clifton 7’s. I didn’t mind spending the big bucks if I could get relief. I now walk without limping, my back and knees don’t hurt… I wanted to get another pair of 7’s and was upset to find they were replaced by the 8 and now 9 Clifton’s. I just didn’t want to spend so much money on the shoes if I wasn’t going to get the same “ healing “results for the fasciitis. This video helped assure me that the Clifton 8 should be just as good or perhaps even better.

    Great review.
    I can feel the support to the inside of my heel and arch when standing in the Clifton 8. My ongoing plantar fasciitis has disappeared since wearing this shoe. I wear the shoe at my job and walk only. This is a very comfortable shoe.

    That was a great review. I am so happy with my Clifton 7 but soon I'll have to replace them. The thing it's that I also run with my Rincon 2 for those days of interval days, drills... going faster. The thing that worries me a little is the new Clifton 8 being closer to the Rincon. As you said new Clifton is more responsive and narrower, shall I get them or buy another pair of Clifton 7??
    By the way, it's the first of your videos that I watch, won't be the last. Nice, clear and deep enough. Great job, Tim!! Thanks indeed!!!

      If you love the Clifton 7 I'd save a little cash and pickup a pair while they are on sale. I think you'd be fine however if you decided to get the 8 as well. The differences between the 7 and 8 are on the subtle side. Hoka played it safe with their updates. Hey thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Have a great day.

    Great review. Right on with the midsole. I ordered some 8s to replace 7s, assuming that Hoka would maintain the same fit. Middle is super tight compared to 7, to the point where I think I'm going to have to return these 8s. Even with the laces super loose still really tight in the mid area. Also heel is slipping out of these and not out of the 7s.

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  2 роки тому

      I'd probably go with the wide version of the Clifton. Most Hoka shoes tend to run narrow. The Clifton 8 does feel roomier in the toe box than other Hoka models and it does come in a Wide version. Have a great weekend and stay safe my friend!!!

    I've had many Clifton 6 and 7's and loved them. I've put around 300 miles on the 8's. Also, I have had alot of adductor pain for a few weeks now. Thinking about it to try to find out why that is, it started about the same time as I started running in the 8's, so I have to assume that it's from the softer sole.

      Hi Shannon. I didn't do a comparison or battle video between the two. The Clifton Edge is one of the few shoes I returned. The extended heal wasn't right for me. I do like the Clifton 7 and the 8 a lot. The Clifton is lightweight and versatile. It's one I really enjoy running in. Thanks for watching. Have a great day. Happy Holidays!

I really need some more but struggling to commit to a hoka that dies so quickly. Does the clifton 8 last any longer? or do i need to go to a trail shoes despite being on the road?

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  2 роки тому +1

      Hey great question. Unfortunately I think you can expect to get about the same number of miles out of the Clifton 8 as you did with the Clifton 7. The Brooks Ghost or the Saucony Ride are both very durable shoe that you might consider. There are a few road to trail shoes out there that are to bad like the Nike Pegasus Trail Shoe.
      They are best on light trails. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and have a great day.

      I am really impressed with the New Balance Fresh Foam More V3. Super soft and comfortable to run in. If you are looking for something with a little more speed but are also super soft, I really like the Skechers Maxroad 5 also. The New Balance Aurora is another max cushion super soft shoe but it comes with a high price tag and not everyone likes the look of the shoes. Have a great day and thanks for watching.

    Hey Tim- im a walker ! tend to heel strike as well - I usually like the brooks glycerin but they have made them too small for me- would you recommend this to someone coming from a 12mm drop or do you think ill hate them the second I take my first step

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  3 роки тому

      That might be a big jump going from a 12mm offset too a 5mm. I think the Clifton makes a good walking shoe. But the biggest concern is the change in the stress points on your ankles, knees, and so on. If you are on your feet a lot and have become accustom to the larger offset going to a 5mm might not feel comfortable. You might not have an issue at all, but their is that chance. Maybe a running/walking shoe with a 10mm or 8mm might be a safer choice. Alternatively, if you decide to try the Clifton maybe find a retailer with a generous return policy in case they don't meet your expectations. Have a great day and thanks for watching!

    Hi there! I have sesamoiditis and was wondering how you find the cushioning in the forefoot?

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  3 роки тому

      I'd say they are moderately cushioned. They aren't a responsive ride where you get a lot of road contact feel but they are not a max cushion running shoe either. The most cushioned running shoe that I have run in this year is the New Balance Fresh Foam More V3. Have a great day and thanks for watching and for taking the time to ask the question. Have a great day. Stay safe.

    Great review. I have the Clifton 7. I found that they stress my achiles tendons.. I attribute it to them being not flexible enough and not stable enough... You run in Gaviota 3 and Arahi etc... How do they compare and don't you hurt yourself by using them?

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  3 роки тому +3

      Hey thanks for watching and taking the time too ask the question. Sorry to hear that the Clifton doesn't work for you. The Arahi is closest to the Clifton when compared to the Gaviota. The Gaviota 3 is the least flexible of the 3. It's a max stability shoe that does a great job to control pronation. Although Hoka added more EVA foam to the mid sole when updating the Gaviota 2, they feel less cushioned to me. I like the Arahi a lot. It has a mild amount of pronation control with enough cushion to give you a soft ride (as long as you mid too forefoot strike). I tend to over pronate so it's easy for me to run in stability shoes and as long as I mid to forefoot strike, I can typically run in most neutral shoes as well. Have a great day and thanks again for watching.

    Packing 2 titanium hips, I do brisk walking. I like the 7s and need to pick up another pair, but I'm always open to something better. I went from NB 1080v11 to the Clifton 7 because I like the snappy feeling and could go faster. Will the 8s be the same and is there a better model that I might try?

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  2 роки тому +1

      Holy cow. First, it is awesome that you are getting out there. Major medical things like your hip replacements are life changing. I hope you are doing well.
      The differences from the Clifton 7 to the 8 are subtle when it comes to the midsole ride. The Clifton 8 is still a good shoe, it's just not much different than the 7. Depending on what you are going for, the Brooks Ghost and the Saucony Ride are solid shoes. If you want something with more cushion the Novablast 2 is a good one as well. I personally have been running a lot in the Asics Gel Nimbus 24. They are a little heavier but I really like the impact protection I get from the gel in the heel and forefoot. They also feature Asics newest midsole foam their FF Blast+ . Have a great day and thanks for keeping the conversation going.

      Hi Tim, I tried the ghost and found them a bit too hard. That's when I found the Clifton 7 at rei, my 1st hoka shoe. It has been my daily trainer, and I can brisk walk further and faster. I was just wondering if there is a softer shoe out there that may have the zippiness of the Clifton but not as sloppy soft as the 1080v11. I do 2 miles and want to work towards a 5k. I used to be a runner in my younger days.

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  2 роки тому

      Got ya. Staying with in the Hoka family you might like the Rincon or the Mach 4. Both are still soft but faster than the Clifton. Enjoy shoe shopping. Let me know what you decide. Have a great night.

    Hey Tim, just wondering, it’s looks like you supinate a little on your right foot. Is that correct?
    I supinate a bit on both feet, the left a little more. The outsoles of my Clifton 7 shows a lot more wear on the outer edges.

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  3 роки тому

      Hey Terence. I have a low arch and tend to over pronate when I run but when I am filming with my GoPro, then yes. It's a challenge some days to try and hold the selfie stick perfectly still because I can't use my right arm as a counter balance while running and sometimes because of that, I tend to have my legs crossover to compensate. I'm getting better at it, but it's a little weird to film that way. Hey thanks so much for watching and leaving the comment. I really appreciate it. Have a great day.

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  3 роки тому +2

      It's always great to get a good deal on running shoes. Sorry to hear you are having some pronation issues though. The Gaviota 3 is a max cushion max stability shoe. They do a great job controlling pronation. Hoka changed up the mid sole from the Gaviota 2 adding a couple mm more EVA foam. They feel like they have even more motion control in the 3 over the 2. For me, I prefer the Gaviota 2 or the Arahi 5. The Arahi features a mild amount of stability when compared to the Gaviota series. I haven't had the opportunity to run in the Hurricane 22 yet but it is a shoe I'm interested in. Have a great day!

    Do you find the durability of the 8 is improved over the 7 or 6? I've found they both tear just around the midsole on the inside just behind the ball of the foot after around 700 miles/ 1100km's use which is admittedly near the end of the shoes serviceable life...

      Hi Peter. Holy cow 700 + miles on a single pair of running shoes is impressive!!! Way to go. It's awesome. I haven't taken them up that high. I run in so many different running shoes to review on the channel that 200 miles is about the max that I put on a single pair these days.
