    50p / 60p is in the menu of the XA50, because you could record in 1080p with 50p and 60p.
    That’s, why it’s not selectable at 2160p, but still shown in the menu.

    I would think the main difference between the XFAVC and MP4 codecs is probably more the level/profile of h264 compression used, not really the 10mbps bitrate difference. A higher level/profile would give better image quality at the same bitrate (but take more computing power to compress and decompress). I should just record a clip of each on my XF405 and use MediaInfo to see what the level/profile is for each.

    Guess with xa50 firmware you get canon log3. So hook this hdmi output to atomos you get 1080p log3 at 422 10bit. Now that's impressive

    Thank you for this comparison i believe is excellent. You're one of a kind when it comes to camcorders reviews, almost every youtube review channel talks about apsc or full frame and the ones who do talk about camcorders are not as professional as you. I got an used GX10 for $1100 dlls (here in Mexico costs around $2700 dlls brand new) and i can't belive how great quality delivers below 28 db, even at 1080p (this is because it does a full read out of the sensor at 4k and downsamples it, i believe that is why the battery performance does not get better recording at 1080)
    I came from using the a6400 and it blew my mind how much better is the GX10 at 1080 and at pair at 4k with a6400 + sigma trio, I've got so dissapointed when I found out Sony crippled his 1080p quality on all his apsc 4k alpha cameras.

      Do you want to say that the Canon GX10 has a better output than the Sony a6400? I'm considering buying one in 2023. It's an old camera, but at the moment canon doesn't offer any cameras with 50-60p recording at a friendly price. So are you still satisfied with the GX10 or have you reached its limits and want to buy something better?

    Do all the Canon XA's have the thing that the zoom goes faster the more you zoom? Really hard to follow fast cars when you're suddenly zooming inn too fast, starts slow and gets progressively faster. Zoom also started sticking only after 5 events in colder weather like -5c

      @@VideoGizmology It is a hardware limitation. Full frame needs more processing power to do 60fps so in the S52 it only woks in 1080 but even then you lose PDF focus. To get the whole cake you have to shoot in APS-C crop.
      Maybe in the S6 we will get it all.

    What are the differences between the XA50 and G60?

  • @dager1
    @dager1 3 роки тому

    Hi, how bad is the LCD screen on the Canon XA50. I have the Canon G40 and it has a beautifull 3.5 oled screen, i had purchased the Canon G60 to upgrade my camera but I noticed that the LCD screen is very bad. The viewing angles are not very good, in that part its a very bad downgrade. That is the reason I had to retun it. The Canon G40 has the same LCD quality as the Canon Gx10, but the downside in that camera is the battery life. In the G40 I get 230 minuetes in one charge and on the GX10 I get 130 minuets. If the GX10 or xa400 did have a good battery life I would get one to replace my camera. Does the Canon XA50 have the LCD screen as the Canon G60?

    • @VideoGizmology
      @VideoGizmology  3 роки тому

      I believe the XA50 has the same LCD screen as the G60, so if you hated the LCD on the G60, you'll probably feel the same on the XA50. I actually like the XA50 overall as the current best prosumer Canon camcorder because it's cheaper, shoots all the same codecs except 4k/60p, and has excellent battery life. The downside is the LCD.

      @@VideoGizmology Thank you very much, yes it seems like a good camcorder. I mostly shoot events 1080 60p 35mbs and the only reason I want to upgrade my camera is to be able to save on both sd cards one for backup. My camera can do that but not in the highest setting. Hopefully canon comes out with more camcorders soon, I like the colors of canon. Thank you again.

    How much better is the quality compared to an iPhone or other smartphone?

    • @VideoGizmology
      @VideoGizmology  3 роки тому +1

      I don't think the average person will be able to tell the difference between the highest end iPhone (iPhone 12 Pro) and a one inch sensor video camera, unless there is a zoom to show the focal length. But as a user, a smartphone and camcorder can be two completely different tools for what you want to do. The smartphone is great because you usually always have it with you, but there are many filming situations that a camcorder can do that a smartphone cannot.

    I own two XA-50. I record firemen in action. My cameras are "gun 'n' run" cameras. I kinda struggle with focus selection. Would like my XA-50s to work like iPhone - you point it at the scene, all is in focus, no focus hunting. Question: What kind of focus set up do you recommend for this kind of videography ? Thank you

    • @VideoGizmology
      @VideoGizmology  2 роки тому +1

      For your situation, you'll want to switch the XA-50 on full AUTO. There should be a switch or button that says AUTO and that makes the camera adjust all the settings by itself like an iPhone. There might be cheaper options for your needs, though. Maybe get a second iPhone? Or a Samsung S22 Ultra, that shoots amazing 4K video on full auto with the ability to zoom in farther than an iPhone. I did a review of the previous Samsung model, S21 Ultra, and loved it as a run and gun travel camera: ua-cam.com/video/V8Hkouyc5mk/v-deo.html
      OR the Panasonic X1500 is slightly cheaper than the XA-50 and is better on full AUTO than the Canon. The X1500 also has a similar sensor size as the iPhone, so that means more things will be in focus more often. I made a comparison video to a Panasonic CX10, which is nearly the same as the X1500, and the Canon XF400, which is nearly the same as the XA-50, so you can see the benefits of the Panasonic over the Canon for your situation. ua-cam.com/video/GvjZGU4w6SY/v-deo.html
