I remember my visit to this beatiful city seven years ago in the beginning of the year. I remember that the weather was wonderful, about 24 C at noon. The people was extremely fine and the food was delicious. This is the city of the eternal spring in Colombia.

Crime uptick! Just came back 2 days ago February 12 2014, First night out in Medellin, I was at Babylon night club, got pick pocketed for my cell phone. My room mate (guy) was drugged by 2 girls he took back in his room and they stoled his Iphone, laptop, Ipad $400.00, they even took his shaver and chewing gum!! Two weeks prior to my arrival, another roommate was held at gun point by a guy on a motor cycle while walking on a street during the day with his girl. Just yesterday the same club Babylon, another room mate got his Iphone lifted. Everyone knows that reporting it to the police is a waste of time!! Medelline is awsome but because of the increase in crime lately, I wont be going back anytime soon. # embarrassed and heart broken

Medellin received 1,000 police officers on Tuesday, in a ceremony officiated by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon. “More police officers and a stronger security presence are some of goals that we hope to accomplish in the country,” said Santos, according to the newspaper Vanguardia. The new police reinforcements are an addition to the 1,000 police officers that had previously been installed in Medellin, bringing the total to 2,000 new police officers in recent months. Santos also called on the mayor of Medellin, Anibal Gaviria, to work with the backing of the government as a means of maintaining security in the city. “This administration has done what no other was able to. It has brought justice to Medellin. Medellin has a much lower crime rate than other major cities in the country, which has to do with the number of police officers,” responded Gaviria. According to Vanguardia, she went on to describe the amount as a “historic number,” which will “continue contributing to the security of Medellin.” On the same day, Santos announced that his administration will make a new effort to tackle criminal gangs that are engaged in micro-extortion and micro-trafficking. “I have given instructions to the police, commanders of the Armed Forces, and DefenseMinister Juan Carlon Pinzon, that our next high-priority objective are the criminals that belong to micro-extortion and micro-trafficking gangs, because that is where crime is originating.” In regards to Medellin, Colombia’s second largest city, Santos said, “It is no longer the city that everyone remembers, all the cartel bosses are in the grave.” Despite the statements made by both politicians, a report released by the Medellin ombudsman in February revealed both a 20% increase in disappearances in the Medellin area for 2013, and an 88% increase in disappeared persons later found murdered.
I live in medellin ! In the Aranjuez neighborhood, a neighborhood in the north of Medellin , near to Manrique , near to Santo Domingo, near to popular, near to Moravia, near to Castilla, considered dangerous neighborhoods in Medellin. Many crimes occur here, kill people, but not that you go out to the corner and then someone kill you! Here kill people who are involved in bad business, but they will not kill someone who is alone walking on a sidewalk. Thefts ,are a lot, but not in neighborhoods, is in the center of Medellin, where thieves will see you buying things (they supposed you have money for buy things and then steal ) but do not have to give " papaya " . That is, if you come to Medellin boasting everything you have, then obviously they're going to steal, and that happens in any city in the world. As I said before Medellin is not " the heaven of security" , but still struggle to make it an increasingly safe city. Those police make nightly rounds to care neighborhoods , make checkpoints cars ... But medellín has improved a lot. The rates of homicide have plummeted . What is certain is that there are still many " pots " where they sell and produce drugs, and those are the places that the police monitors and tries to " destroy " them .
eso es cierto, pero todo el mundo sabe de Nueva York es peligrosa y que no se ve gente en youtube diciendo a todos que es seguro. Lo que muestran en el video es solo el centro de MEDELLIN. Ya quisieran las demas ciudades de colombia tener un centro tan organizado...MEDELLIN no es splo el centro el resto de la ciudad es aun mejor
Quisiera ser alcalde de Medellin para mejorar la calidad de vida de la gente pobre y la desigualdad, veo que han construido obras algo innecesarias, los alcaldes deben concentrarse más en la pobreza de la ciudad
Medellin es mejor de lo que muestra este extranjero que se quedo el las parts menos atratcivas Mostrar basuras y ambulantes no refleja el dinamismo, la arquitectura, el parque explora, el jardin botanico, el museo jardin el castillo.
