Do it. You have to adapt a little but it is worth it. The look is unique and this can cover both apllications in one lens. The only downside really is, how huge it is..
@@dm976 I actually just sold the 85mm and committed to the 105mm. Not selling the 135mm yet but more I try the 105mm the more in love I am falling with the look and smoother bokeh. :).
I have the 85mm and 105mm and have used both extensively in the studio and on location. The 85mm is a great all around versatile lens which gives you more room to move around in smaller spaces. The 105mm I pull out for the very special shots as I can shoot the same model same lighting position everything with the 85mm then switch to the 105mm and there's some kind of magic that happens with the 105mm I can't really explain it solely on the basis of bokeh or perspective. It is just how it renders an image that really sets it apart. I still do not know why DxOMark haven't included this in their database as it is a very special lens.
Same here. I got my daughter and we stood by out fire alarms for minutes to see which one had the bad battery. After 5 min we determined it mush have been the video. Luis you really need to re do this video and upload it again without that noise!
@@DennisMoncla Funny that the most epic part about this video turned out to be the smoke detector ! lol All have brand new batteries so should happen for a LONG time now. :)
Sorry for the late reply as I was not getting all my notifications. And thanks so muchm for the kind words and I never heard that but I will take it (about sounding like Diego Luna LOL) :)
I own 85GM, 135GM, 105/1.4 and the subject isolation is the best on 135, the biggest sharpness to the edge + lowest CA on portrait distance is on 105 and the most circular bokeh (of point light sources - especially seen at nigh scenes) produce 85. Thus I pick the lens depending on needed working distance and the background distance - if the background ~ model distance can not be changed but my position can be changed => 135. If I can control all the environment / positions I pick 105 - better working distance than 135 and 2/3 EV advantage is handy in the lower light available situations like a sunset or night/indoor shooting.
Sadly, that is probably what I am thinking too....that I need them all! :D Thanks for the feedback. I want to get the 135mm GM so when I do action event work, I can get the extra 5 fps (20fps instead of 15fps) from my A9.
@@LuisGabrielPhotography + 135GM AF is significantly faster than 70-200GM (on A9). [I hardly ever use H speed - I can shoot one picture in M speed mode - I use this 99% of the time.] + E mount Sigma lenses AF is not as consistent as is on Sony lenses, but is very usable on A9 even tracking erratic movements on concerts.
Why thank you so much! Considering those are out of camera, I think you make a good point...any of these lenses will allow you to create awesome photos. :)
If I would say the huge size of the Sigma 105mm doesn't matter, would you prefer the Sony 85mm 1.4 GM or this lens to shoot with the A7iii? I am staying infront of a hard decision. Both lenses have their pros and cons in my opinion, but I really like the focal length of 105mm.
To give you a little bit of history..I had the 85mm GM for 2 years, then moved to the 85mm 1.4 Art..and now use the 105mm 1.4 for almost all my portrait work. It replaced both the 85mm and the 135mm 1.8 as my main portrait lens. The extra smooth bokeh and subject isolation/3d Pop of this focal range and lens is amazing. Also it is sharper than the 85mm GM wide open in the center and even more away from the center. So if you don't mind the size, like I do not mind it now, then that would be my choice. :)
@@LuisGabrielPhotography Hi Luis, Thank you very much for sharing your historical experience with both lenses. I also heard that the Sigma delivers "washed out" images when shotting in backlight. Is it true?
@@B1TN3RD I have heard that but I haven't experienced it myself. I mean it has a HUGE element so wouldn't surprise me if its easier to get affected by backlit but I don't normally shoot with heavy backlit in that way, as usually the sun is high or my hair light is to the side etc. I also always have the hood on. I need to make a test to see if I can see differences between it and my other lenses.
The only time I would ever consider leaving the 105 1.4 is if there was ever a DG DN version from Sigma. I'm conflicted at times about the weight of the lens, but every time I use it, it just produces the most sublime images across the frame (even at 1.4). The 105 1.4 is just fabulous.
Thank you very much for the comparison. I don’t have any of these focal lengths as a prime yet (just the Sony 24-105 and the Sigma art 35 1.4). I always thought I’d need an 105 1.4 or 130 1.8 for ultimate background blur. But now that I have seen how beautiful the 85 1.4 is rendering the face, I think I’ll go with the 85. I am glad Sigma made the new, small 85 1.4. cheers from Frankfurt, Germany.
@Luis Im on the market for an 85mm. Sigma lens is good but too heavy for my liking so I'm choosing between Samyang 85 1.4 AF and Sony 85mm 1.8. Between those two, which one would you shoot for on location portrait s?
Hello. So I prefer the bokeh rendering of the Samyang vs the Sony 1.8 but the Sony has faster AF and more importantly, is more accurate than the Samyang at least based on the firmware I tested when I did my comparison video with the Samyang, GM and Sigma. Another option could be the Viltrox which I am currently testing and seems to have very accurate AF for photos so far but of course, Viltrox is not as known as Samyang nor Sony so, if you want to play it safe, you may want to go Sony. I tried getting another copy of the Samyang but while Samyang of Japan was very quick to respond, the USA team never replied back after several tries so I gave up. Thank you!
Thanks for putting all the time into the comparison. I got the sigma 105 1.4 and sony 135 1.8. After doing a proposal shoot at the beach with the 105 i kind of realized how much i was wanting an 85 but made the best of it with the 105. The 135 i could definitely not use since i didnt have much distance. It's more of a lens for when you have that distance and it can focus much closer/faster than most portrait primes out there. Also jesus its the sharpest lens i ever used, just nuts. Now i need to get an 85 but i want something smaller as the 105 1.4 is the heaviest i will carry. The 135 weight is good actually not heavy. I tried the 85 1.4 gm and loved it as well. Sigma 85 1.4 is just so friggin huge for an 85 😫
Indeed the Sigma is big BUT what you get is the sharpest 1.4 lens across the frame vs every other 85mm for Sony at least. I love my 105mm and replaced the 85mm and 135mm with it now. I also tested the 135mm GM, very sharp lens for sure although my copy of the Sigma 135mm was VERY close to it. The thing is, the bokeh of the 105mm is just something else so I do not have a use for either 135mm..just hoping for a 200mm from Sigma 2.0 LOL Maybe you can do what I am planning to do..get the cheap 85mm 1.8 from Sony since its small in case I ever need something shorter than my 105mm but longer than 35mm. Also it gives me 20fps with the A9 if I ever need that. Thank you for your kind words! :)
Well I would probably go with the 85mm because the 105mm may be too long in some cases as your only prime. I normally would use the 105mm and a 50 or 35mm with dual bodies. If using one body I would think you will be better off with a 2.8 zoom though for more flexibility
Great video, I have the 105 and Sony 135, the Sony is sharper and you can get closer in shooting, but I find myself getting the 105 more as I feel it has a better 3d pop, plus I don't have to be back as far. From what I've seen also the 135 is better at flares
Yes indeed the 135mm is the sharpest lens as tested by lens rental at least in the center but the sigma is no slouch for sure. I am getting more and more temped to add the 105mm for when I want a one lens solution for long range and my 35mm 1.2 for wider shots. Thank you very much!
Hi Tristan, I got a little advice from another great UA-camr Francisco Joel Fernandez, between the Sony 135mm GM and the Sigma 105mm 1.4, he thinks the Sigma has better pop than the GM. Is that what you are seeing now?
GREAT TEST THANK YOU I THINK THE 135 BRINGS THE BACKGROUND A BIT TOO FORWARD AND LOOKS UNATURAL.......BUT I'M SURE THAT THIS EFFECT MY BE NICE FOR SOME INSTACES
I personally ended up with the 105mm and sold all 85 and 135. I found the bokeh of the 105mm smoother than the 85mm 1.4s and the 135mm GM and Sigma BUT of course, it is a big lens that not everyone may want to carry. Before moving to 105mm I was shooting both 85mm 1.4 and 135mm 1.8. If I had to choose between the 85mm 1.4 and 135mm 1.8 only, I would probably go with the 85mm as I will have more flexibility in terms of space needed to shoot but of course, the compression won't be as much as the 135mm and also for tight headshots, I prefer to shoot at least 100mm for most people. In the end, all those factors are why I went with the 105mm. My new video with the Canon vs Sony, has the 135 GM and the 105mm 1.4 there with better comparisons I think, than the one on this video :)
Luis Gabriel Photography thanks that made more sense I dont care about size I had the sigma 35mm 1.2 and thats one heavy lens lol. I returned it because I just didnt shoot much for a 35mm, I shoot more solo portraits. I wonder how the new sigma 85mm 1.4 stands up against the 105?
@@kendrickcontent I have been trying to get my hands on it but from what I have seen bokeh is similar to the previous version or maybe the previous is a tiny bit smoother so nothing would change in my recommendation in terms of getting the smoothest bokeh, great sharpness and more compression than 85mm (but less than 135rmm of course), the 105mm is still king for my portrait work. I actually do event work many times with the 35mm 1.2 on one side and the 105mm on the other! Big combo but the results just make me smile :)
Very useful comparison thank you. Im considering all three of these lenses, but I think for mainly studio work the 85 will suit me best. I have a 70-200 for outdoors.
I actually also like to use the zoom in studio often so as not be cropping a lot in post but your idea is good for sure Glad it was useful and thanks for watching :)
Hello. RAW files are that, basically unedited raw so you need to apply your own sharpening (I normally do this on my last step). A JPG already have the camera's own sharpning, contrast, color etc preset applied to it. Thanks!
It should be really sharp and the copy I have now that I purchased is very sharp across the frame. Guess that loaner copy from sigma may have been abused from too many trips around 😁
Indeed as with most things in photography the "best one" is a matter of preferences and needs. Sorry for the late reply. I was not getting my UA-cam notifications!
I love my 105 f1.4 Sigma. Just sold my Canon 85 f1.2 L MII, just to make space and had to decide between the 2. Canon bokeh was fantastic and more dreamy/creamy, but for my purposes, the Sigma focuses much faster (that canon 85 is notorious for slow focus). Loved the 85 Canon, but the Sigma was the one I kept
Hello. Well unfortunately that is one of those questions that is hard to answer. The 105mm 1.4 will give you smoother bokeh, more "3D pop" and "compression" all which are the reasons I prefer it over any 85mm and 135mm in the market (aside from the RF 85mm1.2 which is overall as good for me). So for MY style, I would get the 105mm but it depends on your specific needs. :)
Thank you for a very nice and thorough review, I love how you explained everything in detail! I own a Nikon 135 f/2 DC lens and although I prefer the vintage look sometimes when shooting with it, I really would like to try the Sigma 135 and get more crisp, sharper images paired with my D800 and lose the chromatic abberations which sometimes are annoying. I did not know which one to pick between the 105 f/1.4 art and the 135 f/1.8 art (better low light/creamy bokeh vs better compression/sharper images), but I think I will go with the 135!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I just got another copy of the 105mm as i want to try it more time as my one lens solution with a lot more comparisons keeping the subject the same size and also AF comparisons with moving subjects so a 2nd video is coming up for this but I don't think you can go wrong with the sigma 135mm 1.8, it's awesome!
You' welcone, I am looking forward to seeing your second comparison in this case 😁 The two factors that made me decide to stay on the 135 are the compression and the fact that I have no problem whatsoever with being farther from the subject when shooting portraits (provided I have space). Another indirect factor would be the weight of course, that 105 is really heavy after a days work. When I need to be closer to my model I use a Tamron 85 1.8 lens, it is the only portrait lens so far with optical stabilization for the Nikon system and I love it.
@@LuisGabrielPhotography Indeed :) I have just downloaded the files you provided. Is there any way you could give us the raw files? Or if you do not want to make them public, you can PM me. I promise not to do anything with the files, I just want to compare them side by side and see which image is the best. I am most interested in the 105 vs 135 shots, especially the mid one where you nailed the exact same composition!
@@steelxl4ever Hello. This are not really photos the way I shoot, just a simple setup to test lenses so I dont have a problem sharing the RAW even though I think the jpgs should do the job too. Anyways, I updated the link which now includes the RAW files too :)

I am just 9 subs away from becoming a "real" channel so hopefully when that happens, I will get a bit more exposure too. Comments like yours motivate me to keep working harder. Thanks again!
Hi Luis, I have the E-Mount Version of this lens and had another copy here too. Both were extremely sharp, so you should definetely get another one to test if you are interested. Sharpness matches my 90mm Macro and definetely exceeds the 85mm Sony.
So I did get another copy and surely is sharper. I am not selling the 135mm yet for when I want longer reach (until a 200mm is available). The more I use the 105mm the more impressed I am with the rendering and bokeh. Thank you! :)
@@LuisGabrielPhotography I use the 70-200 2.8 for that. Bokeh is sufficient and the compression is similar to a 200mm prime. The sharpness and colours are also pleasing. In addition you get a much greater versatility with that lens and a 200mm 2.0 or 2.8 from Sigma will cost almost the same, will have the same weight and is still not existing ;)
This is a really great review, I would like to know if any woman have the 105mm and do you think it is too heavy, I shoot family portraits, normally 2 hrs at a time.
I am a man but will comment. It’s gonna be heavy. I would get the 85 with the widest app you can get if it’s the bokeh you want. Family portraits I would think 1.8 is enough. Hell its enough most the time outside of UA-cam.
Hello Sara. The 105mm 1.4 it can feel heavy if you are going to be shooting it for a long time. I workout and still can feel it so while I don't know you personally, I know my wife would never use the 105mm. I use it for weddings and so on but I am used to it so I am kind of a bad reference point.. A fast 85mm like the new or even the old Sigma would be smaller (specially the new one) allow you to be closer for family shots and still give you nice bokeh. Won't be as smooth and as 3d pop as with the 105mm but won't be as big or heavy either :) Also for family photos you will likely be stopping down to keep everyones eyes in focus, unless you very carefully place them within the thin focus plane.
I have a nikon d850 and z6. I have the nikon 105mm 1.4 and love it! I was interested in the sigma 135 1.8mm. Anyone hav a comparison of those? Someone Recommended waiting for the native z 70-200mm 2.8. I am looking for the best bokeh and shaprp lens and can’t afford the 200 mm F2.0 as well as do I don’t want the weight. Thoughts?
If you keep the subject the same size, the 105mm 1.4 has smoother bokeh than the others but the 135mm has more compression which can be desirable too. IN reality, I doubt anyone will be unhappy with the bokeh these lenses create. Thanks for the comment.
Great job on your review. I think for outdoor, the 135mm has the best background compression performance and gives the portrait a more flattering look. The 85mm and 105mm to be honest is probably better suited for indoor studio portraits against back-drop where you can work closer to the model. Not to say that, the 85mm and 105mm wouldn't be great outdoors as well; they are! I just feel that the 135mm is a better all around portrait lens outdoors because you have the space and can choose more distant background elements to incorporate bokeh. The 105mm F1.4 just doesn't wow me as much better or different from the 135mm F1.8 or the 85mm F1.4. Plus the added compression of the 135mm F1.8 due to the longer focal length will always have smooth buttery bokeh even if shot slightly stopped down at F2.8. Perhaps, the 85mm F1.4 is also a keeper as well because it performs very well at indoor scenarios in low light and tighter spaces as well as outdoors. Whereas the 105mm F1.4 is very close and not that far off from the 85mm F1.4, producing almost identical results. So keeping the sigma 85mm F1.4 and Sony 135mm F1.8 GM gives you the perfect lens gap that will produce amazing but unique results. If you do consider the sigma 105mm, or something in the 100mm range, I would suggest adding a 100mm F2.8 macro or the Sony GM 100mm F2.8 STF OSS with macro mode to add variety to your kit. Otherwise, why not just wait until Sony releases the 85mm F1.2 GM (don't quote me on this) within the next few months. The bokeh for this new lens would be comparable in bokeh to the 135mmF1.8, and just as versatile as the older 85mmF1.4. This (85mmF1.2) would be the lens that I would trade-in my 85mm F1.4 and 135mm F1.8 for. This new lens by Sony would offer something unique that the latter does not have. Just my 2 cent. Thanks again for the wonderful and inspiring videos, cheers!!!!!
It goes to show how different we all are. For me, when you keep the subject the same size, the 105mm 1.4 has the smoothest bokeh with more blur. If you check my other video which was better made, comparing the Canon 85mm 1.2 with R5, the A7R IV with the 105mm and 135mm 1.8 GM, you can see the differences in 3Dish pop of the 105mm vs the 135mm. The Sigma is my choice these days as favorite all time portrait lens after that 2nd test. I just love that look that it achieves vs anything else I have tested aside from a 200mm F2 (that is my other lens I would love to add to my tools). I had the 100mm STF and while it has a very unique look, at full lenght it is not fast enough to give me the amount of blur I like. I may grab the 135mm STF instead one day. After comparing the Canon RF 85mm 1.2 to the Sigma 105mm 1.4, I dont feel I would go with an 85mm over the 105mm. I just prefer the extra compression over the 85mm while having more blur and smoother bokeh than the 135mm 1.8 options. Of course, those are just my opinions and your views are just as valid. :) In the end we all ned to find the gear that clicks with us. Thanks so much for the kind words!!
@@LuisGabrielPhotography Oh, I see, I stand corrected.. I’ve never tried the 105mm, I was going off of the pictures and comparisons.. I’ll will watch your other video …Actually, I admit, I do like the perspective rendering of the 105mm over the 85mm and the 135mm so you win this argument.. haha…Thanks for your kind words and remarkable reviews.. On one note.. there is a rumor that Sony is also releasing a 100mm GM F1.4 lens soon.. Again don’t quote me on this.. but I wonder how it will stand up to sigma.. Thanks again I’m glad you enjoying your lens… now I wish I had it … haha…cheers!!!
@@djrease7354 hahaha no worries, is all my simple opinion so is not like my word is the law :D Let me know what you think after you watch the other video. I am curious of your opinion of those 3 lenses. yeah, I have been hearing about that rumor. I wonder if they will do that or bring the 85mm 1.2 GM instead to update the older 1.4 GM AND compete directly with what Canon is offering. These are great days to be a photographer with so much amazing gear...but sadly, the prices keep increasing LOL
@@LuisGabrielPhotography Honestly, Sony is relatively new in the lens development market since acquiring Minolta. Which is good because they push the newer camera technologies, that puts a lot of pressure on other manufacturers. But when it comes to lenses, Sony has not done that bad at all and has offered competitive gear, especially with their GM and Zeiss offerings. It seems now Sony is ready to step up to the plate and offer the 100mm F1.4 (which I think is releasing soon) and the 85mm F1.2; (which is rumored to be released in a couple of years) I watched your other video and gain great insight. Now I understand why the sigma 105mm F1.4 is favorable. And from also looking at the specs, I speculate that the reason might be clear from physics. When you look at the lens from a technical and physical aspect, it's clear who the winner is; it may be the Sigma 105mm!!!! The sigma just simply has the largest front lens elements out of both the 85mm and the 135mm. And is surprisingly heavier that the 70-200mm F2.8GM. By having a larger front lens element, more light has to be squeezed down to the sensor. This causes it to diffract more light in the out of focus regions. Which is why flare performance is poor but bokeh performance is king..But it does this at the cost of having many corrective lens groups and elements, which in -turn adds weight and size; however, in my opinion, it may render more beautiful bokeh that the 135mm GM as a result. I respect Sigma for doing this because often photographers in general tend to want what works for their style. So if the lens is a little heavy, we can generally live with that if we are happy with the results until the weight and size outweighs practicality. It is also interesting that the Canon 85mm offered fairly good performance and the reason became suddenly clear after looking at the specs. From your video, the reviewed Canon 85mm DS model has a De-focused smoothing lens element that renders that smooth out-of-focus transitions in the background and foreground; Hence, rendering a gaussian blur effect with smoother, circular bokeh balls. The rendering of the Canon 85mm DS lens reminds me of Sony 100mm F2.8 GM STF and the older Sony 135mm F2.8 STF manual focus A-mount lens. Surprisingly, I prefer the rendering of the Canon 85mm F1.2 DS lens; however, only at closer focusing distances. For instance, I would prefer to use the 85mm DS only for headshots or tight 3/4 poses because the gaussian background blur effect drops off rapidly as you move farther away from the subject. Which means I'd switch back to the 105mmF1.4 for the full body portraits to preserve the more traditional effect. So it makes perfect since to just stick with the Sigma 105mm for almost everything in portraits. Although I have not tried the Canon 85mmF1.4 DS or the Sigma 105mmF1.4 myself, many thanks for helping me realize that the Sigma 105mm is a great and unique lens. Now, I want to wait for the Sony 100mm F1.4GM release to see if they will make something as daring as the Sigma 105mm F1.4. Hopefully Sony makes the filter thread size of the new 100mm F1.4 larger than the one found on the Sigma 105mmF1.4 .... lol.... Great videos...Thanks again... Cheers!!!!!
You got a point for sure. The size of the 105mm which for some is a con is also what gives its awesome performance. I have to admit, I am a sucker for big lenses. It always makes me feel like less compromises were taken. I agree about the DS and stf in general, when you move farther from the subjects the effect diminishes but under the right setup those lenses surely give a unique look. That is on fact where I'm a bit stuck right now choosing between swapping the A7R IV for the Canon R5...or adding two lenses that give me very unique looks... the 9mm 5.6 and the 135mm STF.

Sorry for the late reply as I was not getting all my notifications. Thanks for the information! I just reported that loser. Seriously, some people have no shame
Hello Victor....a tripod is not going to make tack sharpness from any lens. Sure it will avoid the movements but there are clear differences between lenses in detail and even copy to copy variances from the same lens. Also, as I mentioned, what you see here is ONE photo, the best one for each lens of several taken for each pose so it is an accurate representation of how each of THESE particular copies of the lens compare. Thanks
You're absolutely right Luis! Victor is my next door neighbor. He just got into the hobby a month ago and doesn't know what he's talking about. In fact the 85 he claimed to own is actually mine! Yo Victor R, after you get done taking snapshots of your new kittens sitting on Johnny's lap with my 85 please return it. 😂🤡
I order that 105 f1,4 Sigma,i shoot before 135 f1,8 and yes its sharp lens, but it just need get have so much more space go back that can get all body shots, before i shoot with sony A7III with 135 f1,8 and yes its really sharp lens, now i shoot with Nikon D850 and order 105 f1,4,so yes i start think can i get that eyeball sharpness good, because not have any stabilisation at camera or lens
Don't you have to calibrate the lenses with the Sigma Dock before using it with your camera? Maybe you did? If not then that's maybe why you haven't had luck nailing the focus. Ah no, you are not using a SLR camera but a mirrorless, aren't you? Then you are using contrast detection AF and it should actually always be in focus :-/
There is no calibration to be made for Sony and it was using Phase detected AF. I ended up buying the 105mm 1.4 art and selling the 85mm and 135mm. The new copy if fantastic with the Autofocus. Thank you
Sorry, I dont speak Russian even though I listen to a lot of songs from Sergey Lazarev lol but according to google you are asking "why a tripod"? To try keep a consistent framing for the test
I have 85mm 1.8 - light weight, cheap, fast af.. But for 2nd portrait lens i confuce between 105(i think best bokeh, can use in indoor but heavy & big size) Sigma135mm (difficult for indoor for focal length, light weight, similar bokeh) Sony 135 (similar qualty, good low light af,small & light weight than sigma 135 but expensive)
@@insidefeelings9434 Well I had all those before so lets see if I can help. The Sigma for portrait work has very good and accurate AF at least with the A7R 3, 4 and A9 that I tested it with. Bokeh is a big smoother than the Sony 135mm GM but the Sony is sharper away from the center. I love my 105mm 1.4 ARt as it has the smoothest bokeh of all but since you have an 85mm already, maybe it will be best to get a 135mm to have a bigger gap between the two lenses plus 135mm will give you a very different compression and "facial features" perspective vs 85mm when standing at the same distance from the subject.

85mm
105 I have recently bought it!!! With A7R4

@@LuisGabrielPhotography Hi Luis,
Thank you very much for sharing your historical experience with both lenses.
@@LuisGabrielPhotography Thank you again for your valuable information Luis. I will keep your recommendations in mind! :)

I totally understand the feeling. Yeah a DN version with no compromises would be fantastic for sure. Fully agree, the 105mm is just magic :)
Why thank you very much for the kind words. I am glad that it was useful to you. The sigma 85mm was certainly my favorite 85mm lens. :)
Thats a gorgeous model.
Ashlyn is awesome indeed. Thanks !
Thank you!
Man the Sigma 105 is magicial to me 😍
I fully agree :)
The thing is, the bokeh of the 105mm is just something else so I do not have a use for either 135mm..just hoping for a 200mm from Sigma 2.0 LOL
Maybe you can do what I am planning to do..get the cheap 85mm 1.8 from Sony since its small in case I ever need something shorter than my 105mm but longer than 35mm. Also it gives me 20fps with the A9 if I ever need that.
Thank you for your kind words! :)
Thanks for doing this test!😊👍

Well I would probably go with the 85mm because the 105mm may be too long in some cases as your only prime. I normally would use the 105mm and a 50 or 35mm with dual bodies.
If using one body I would think you will be better off with a 2.8 zoom though for more flexibility
@@LuisGabrielPhotography thanks sir 👍

@@vinsgarde yes, I would say so. I still go foro my 105 way more often than the 135 for that reason, if I could I only get 1 it would be the 105 👍

So do I. Thanks!
GREAT TEST THANK YOU I THINK THE 135 BRINGS THE BACKGROUND A BIT TOO FORWARD AND LOOKS UNATURAL.......BUT I'M SURE THAT THIS EFFECT MY BE NICE FOR SOME INSTACES
Yes indeed we all have different preferences :)
So if u had to choose just one on a A7iii? I have a sony 85mm 1.8 now but I want 1.4 or better compression.

Luis I own the Sigma 105mm 1.4 , and maybe I got lucky , but it's really a sharp copy .
It should be really sharp and the copy I have now that I purchased is very sharp across the frame. Guess that loaner copy from sigma may have been abused from too many trips around 😁
They are all very similar so I guess the "best one" is the one that is more versatile overall.
Indeed as with most things in photography the "best one" is a matter of preferences and needs.

I love my 105 f1.4 Sigma. Just sold my Canon 85 f1.2 L MII, just to make space and had to decide between the 2. Sir, I have the sigma 85mm 1.4 should I upgrade it to 105 f.4?

You' welcone, I am looking forward to seeing your second comparison in this case 😁
The two factors that made me decide to stay on the 135 are the compression and the fact that I have no problem whatsoever with being farther from the subject when shooting portraits (provided I have space). Another indirect factor would be the weight of course, that 105 is really heavy after a days work.
When I need to be closer to my model I use a Tamron 85 1.8 lens, it is the only portrait lens so far with optical stabilization for the Nikon system and I love it.

Glad you enjoyed it And my apologies for the late reply as I was not getting all my notifications. :)

Won't be as smooth and as 3d pop as with the 105mm but won't be as big or heavy either :)
Also for family photos you will likely be stopping down to keep everyones eyes in focus, unless you very carefully place them within the thin focus plane.

Boke master: 1/135 1.8 2/105 1.4 3/85 1.4
If you keep the subject the same size, the 105mm 1.4 has smoother bokeh than the others but the 135mm has more compression which can be desirable too. IN reality, I doubt anyone will be unhappy with the bokeh these lenses create.
Thanks for the comment.
Another review mentioned video is not that smooth as well.
In the end we all ned to find the gear that clicks with us.
Thanks so much for the kind words!!

yeah, I have been hearing about that rumor.
It seems now Sony is ready to step up to the plate and offer the 100mm F1.4 (which I think is releasing soon) and the 85mm F1.2; (which is rumored to be released in a couple of years)
I watched your other video and gain great insight.
Another channel apparently directly ripped off this video - i.e. apparently just downloaded it and directly re-uploaded it: ua-cam.com/video/m0bUFR1VH5M/v-deo.html
Sorry for the late reply as I was not getting all my notifications.
Thanks for the information! I just reported that loser. Seriously, some people have no shame
I have all 3, and my all are tack sharp... if it's not, it's because i moved. You're shooting with a tripod and they should be sharp.
Why choose, I want all three
Sounds like a great plan to me!
I'm getting it again in two days so I can use it longer to make a final decision. Thanks for your comment!!
Lovely.
Thank you!
Thank you
Зачем штатив?
Sorry, I dont speak Russian even though I listen to a lot of songs from Sergey Lazarev lol but according to google you are asking "why a tripod"? To try keep a consistent framing for the test
She could have moved ever so slightly to cause that out of focus effect.
No is not that. You are not looking a single samples. Several shots were taken of every scene to rule out any inconsistenties like that.
I think u r best
thank you!
I have 85mm 1.8 - light weight, cheap, fast af..
But for 2nd portrait lens i confuce between 105(i think best bokeh, can use in indoor but heavy & big size)
Sigma135mm (difficult for indoor for focal length, light weight, similar bokeh)
Sony 135 (similar qualty, good low light af,small & light weight than sigma 135 but expensive)
I love my 105mm 1.4 ARt as it has the smoothest bokeh of all but since you have an 85mm already, maybe it will be best to get a 135mm to have a bigger gap between the two lenses plus 135mm will give you a very different compression and "facial features" perspective vs 85mm when standing at the same distance from the subject.
your smoke detector needs a new battery
Yep and I hate that is almost at the highest part of the wall like 20 feet high lol
@@LuisGabrielPhotography for what it's worth, your video made think it was MY smoke detector... 😂. But anyways, thanks for posting the video, I love my Sigma 135mm F1.8 ART, with the latest firmware update, it's FAST! I don't care what people say about the GM, I'm perfectly fine with Sigma
@@KenCheng lol I wonder how many people will have the same things happened to them regarding the smoke detector lol
Oh yes the sigma with latest firmware works great. I did a Renaissance faire with it and it worked fantastic during the jousting event.
@@LuisGabrielPhotography I kept pausing the video to see if it was my smoke detector.
@@shootermcgavin4999 lol luckily it's fixed now . Thank you :)
Re-do without the smoke alarm
Sure as soon as i hit one million subs I will 👍😆
I prefer 135. What is this annoying beep we can hear every minute ?
The smoke alarm battery. Thanks for your comments!
Tarkinx ya I prefer the look of the 135mm from these too. Plus it’s so much smaller.
On 85mm you see more from the fine Hairs, right better .
135 is still the king
Thanks for your comment and sorry for the late reply. I was not getting my UA-cam notifications
135 for me
Thank you!
@@LuisGabrielPhotography I want it but I don't need it lol especially shooting a7riv and I already have an 85 that will get me close to a 135 look in crop mode with 26mp still.
I hear you lol getting gear can be too addictive for sure. It happens to be s lot with lighting great too.
The cropping capabilities of the R iv is great for sure!
Amazing video Luis! For now I'm going to try the 85. I like to work as close as possible to my models, perfume sniffing close if possible. That's why I use my 35 Art the most for head shots. 😂 But for real tho, thanks for the comparison bro!
First sorry for the late reply. I just dont get why I check my channel, my phone app and studio comments section and STILL commends hide from me then suddenly show up much later! :/
hahaha 35mm and 105mm as my Portrait combo so you are doing fine for sure. Perfume sniffing close..love it :D
Thanks for the kinds words!
Dude... put a new battery in your smoke detector... that chirping noise is freakin annoying. :P
I moved from that house...couldn't stand it 😂😂😂😂😂
