I own this beast and absolutely love the images I get from it.
I have the 105mm 2.8 Macro, 105 is such an awesome focal length. Very pleasing compression.
There's a category of people out there who want this lens just because they want it. The experience of owning such a lens shouldn't be justified by a genre - its just lovely!
Exactly. Mine collects dust until it doesn't and when that happens, damn it's worth it
Credible candid review, Curtis. Humor and dog cameo a nice touch. Not excited about a lens of this heft and bulk - unless, as you mentioned it resided in a studio on a STRONG tripod😊. “Insaner” now official. Cheers!
Love this and love the quality content you are putting out Curtis🔥🔥
Ayyy thanks mate appreciate that!
Thanks for that. Great review. I just gotta say that Sigma are just doing some incredible stuff at the moment. Their lenses are simply amazing value - even at the price asked for this one. Top quality is coming out across the range these days, both for full frame and APS-C. Well done Sigma - and there will be those who need something exactly like this. Me, I'm a standard mid-range zoom guy and rarely need anything else. APS-C for stealth and the Sigma 18-50 - perfect!
Excellent photographs. I am hopefully going to purchase a 105mm F1.4 lens for my Nikon D5500 and future Nikon D750 and Nikon D780 and Nikon Z5
What would you recommend more the 85mm 1.4 art lens or the 105mm art lens? I am going back and forth between the two for portraits and car meets
As I mentioned towards the end of the video, I would personally choose the 85mm over the 105mm for my shooting, hope that helps ✌️
The 85mm Art is on my camera more than any other lens, definitely recommended
I was deciding exactly between these two. Had these two lenses for about a week side by side. And went for the 105/1.4. It has a slight edge in the IQ wide opened and basically lacks any purple fringing, unlike the 85mm. Also I wanted to try a bit different FL since I did own 85mm for last 15 years. And lastly but not leastly the 105mm has kind of a unique look to me that 85mm lacks.
So for me the decision was clear.
Woooooooooooo 🔥
I love mine although if I were looking at one now, I'd wait to see what price the long-rumoured Sigma 85mm 1.2 comes in at. I sure hope that one comes out soon because that's the last lens I need to add to complete my dream team of the 35mm 1.2, 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.2, 105mm 1.4 and 135mm 1.8. And I know that's absurdly overkill and way too much to take on a single shoot, but it would also be totally awesome to have every option available lol.
I own this lens (bought it used). Its just amazing for portrait sessions, outdoor sessions, a lot of things. Zero regrets
Paired with the sigma 35 1.2, its unbelievable powerhouse combo for sessions
lol Curtis the end 😂 I was curious about this lens but the size and weight as the biggest factors and the 95mm diameter for filters.
@@maidn1887 diameter not focal length
@@DimmyV the filter size is actually also 105mm lol. That's even bigger than most square filter systems.
Oh wow, thats like a bucket, it's massive 😲
The photographs you took with it are amazing. But it is sadly a bit too expensive 😐
I know massive lens, glad you like the photos but yeah definitely out of my budget range too 🥲

👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Can we get a video for your pov setups?
There is one already on the channel, was a few months back feel free to check it out! 😁
It's a cracking lens, no doubt about that, but it is a beast of a thing to carry about for an extended period. Still love it though
Couldn’t agree more just need bigger guns to be able to carry it on the daily 💪😂
Buy and using these heavy Sigma lenses will develop some pretty good biceps. Put the 14mm 1.4 in the other hand you will get a great workout.
These are the world most expensive dumbbells 💪 😂
No longer on the Sigma website and B&H web site lists it as discontinued. Bummer
So nice! Actually the filter size is 105. Not worthy putting any filter on it tho. Cheers!
focus motor is slow??the weight is a big problem
Not ideal for sports I would say. But it’s fast enough.
Motor is not that fast due to the size.
I love my bokeh monster
Nice Nickname 10/10
This is where Full Frame falls short, you can get basically the same shot with the €500 Viltrox 75mm 1.2 which suddenly feels light with just 670g compared to this monster
Not at all. The exact equivalent to the Sigma 105/1.4 on Canon body would be 65mm f/0.875 lens. While the FL 65mm vs 75mm is rather close, the aperture difference is huge - one and a half stop slower.
By no means these two lenses are equivalent.
Fast primes (FF equivalent of f/1.2, 1.4) is actually where APS-C falls short significantly.
@@petrpohnan875 Do the conversion the other way around and you'll realize it's a lot closer than you make it. Nobody ever looked at images of the Viltrox 75 and said "oh no, I need f0.9, because the completely blown out background isn't blown out enough. The 75 1.2 becomes a 112.5 1.8 in FF terms. Compare the same shot with a 105 1.4 and you get extremely close. The background is blown out anyway, Viltrox has extremely creamy bokeh rendering in their 27 and 75 Pro which helps a lot. Is it technically slightly different? Yes. Is it worth the massive price and especially weight difference? No. I personally wouldn't even carry the Viltrox with me, someone would have to pay me a lot of money to carry a 1.7kg lens lmfao.
haha, its a lightweight compared to a 200 1.8 :P
Haha, out of curiosity how heavy is one of them?
Saw the price and clicked off immediately
Not all lenses are cheap unfortunately buddy. Have a good days thanks for tuning in 👋🏻
I meant I clicked off the link I still watched your video all the way through. I love your content
@@Papa-ci6xv Gotcha haha, thanks for watching mate! Was it a jumpscare? XD
😂😂😂 thats the only issue
@@CurtisPadley heck yeah it was. Currently rocking a sony a6400 and looking for new lens
Everybody is using a 70-200mm 2.8 - which is near the same in weight - without complaining about the weight. So. I don't understand that point.
Is the lens to heavy.... you are too weak.
NOBODY use this Lens in a Studio. lol.
This is a definitely Outdoor Lens.
A 70-200 F2.8 and Sigma 105mm F1.4 are not the same weight no where near. Can I draw your attention to time Stamp 6:03.
Here I clearly show the Sigma 105 is 1645 grams.
Then I demonstrate that, that lens is nearly just as heavy as two lenses combined. A sigma 85mm F1.4 and Sony 70-200 F2.8 II. The specific weight of the 70-200 is 1045g. Exactly 600g less heavy then this 105.
I personally wouldn’t want to be using this lens on a daily basis as for my shooting style it’s too heavy and cumbersome. Yea the results are phenomenal but it’s not worth it for me personally. Everyone’s use case is different.
This is just my opinion and preference don’t take offence and get so defensive if someone has a different opinion to yourself.
Hope that helps.
