I understand the feeling of not wanting your favorite "little guys" to get too big and famous. On the other hand, it brings them to a wider audience. I live in Indiana and wouldn't have ever heard of Johnny Flynn if it hadn't been for the fact that Mumford and Sons got so big and popular, Marcus Mumford covered on of his songs- and here I am. I've never heard him before today. A fan that comes to someone's music even years after the fact can still be just as "real" or "true" a lover and fan of that music as the people who were there from the beginning.
Just fell asleep at 6AM listening to this. Had a dream about how Johnny thought a scarf that I made was amazing. His hands were beautiful. Woke up at 9AM and grinned. THIS IS WHAT THIS BOY DOES.
I totally agree with you. I do feel the same when I really like some artists.... And also the more popular they get, the more commercial are the songs.
On my sister's facebook wall, I wrote: "I was going to post a video here of Johnny Flynn singing 'The Wrote and the Writ.' But he's too beautiful to share. Sorry." My sister listens and sings to billboard music. It saddens me sometimes.
In the shadows of a darkened room The shadow's gone despite the gloom And the soul that cast, it never made the grave He tripped upon a tripping fence, The kind that time has cooked and then With symphonies and thoughts like sharpened darts Trains don't stop your soul, they break your heart I'm dislocated and I'm full of fear I stopped the train when no one was near And dreamt a storm of children passed me by Singing songs of not a care, Dancing in the open air And bloodstained in the sunlight you were with them And I have not the smallest thing to give them You must've forgotten how to play the game Or danced with all the nearly lame But lord above or ground below me, listen For all the time you lived you dreamt And having always came you went I'm full of you although we're far apart Trains don't stop your soul they break your heart Oh my dearie me the end Has left me wanting more my friend And sovereign to the calendar Time and pace lost lavender Lost rosemary, left charcoal black Left death so white and hay being stacked But season's end brought spring again And all before I blinked my friend
@saddamisded point received. This stuff though, that has substance...when it turns into the Twilight-esque, teeny bopper "omg i love him so much, marry me" shit makes me want to vomit. But, I see your point.
i so selfishly don't want him to get big and popular so he can stay exclusive for the true lovers of his music. is that terrible of me?? i can't help it....................=]
@doyly909 yeah i feel ya for sure. these musicians have something they need to say, they have soul. it's just annoying to see real raw music like this get chewed out by the masses because for some reason the more global an image becomes, the more superficial the world seems to become. i have a few friends as well who write this kind of music off as "weird"....and i think it's because their musical range scales from kesha to miley cyrus. I don't get it. it's shitty.

There's no one else who writes like him - so original

In the shadows of a darkened room
The shadow's gone despite the gloom
And the soul that cast, it never made the grave
He tripped upon a tripping fence,
The kind that time has cooked and then
With symphonies and thoughts like sharpened darts
Trains don't stop your soul, they break your heart
I'm dislocated and I'm full of fear
I stopped the train when no one was near
And dreamt a storm of children passed me by
Singing songs of not a care,
Dancing in the open air
And bloodstained in the sunlight you were with them
And I have not the smallest thing to give them
You must've forgotten how to play the game
Or danced with all the nearly lame
But lord above or ground below me, listen
For all the time you lived you dreamt
And having always came you went
I'm full of you although we're far apart
Trains don't stop your soul they break your heart
Oh my dearie me the end
Has left me wanting more my friend
And sovereign to the calendar
Time and pace lost lavender
Lost rosemary, left charcoal black
Left death so white and hay being stacked
But season's end brought spring again
And all before I blinked my friend

(ok don't 'like' the comment, i know it's really cliche and all, but just could not resist)
Is it just me, or is it mostly the sound of women cheering from the crowds?
lol
this is a really cliche normal youtube comment, but 35k views and 1 dislike? fuck yeah
