I always considered keyboardist Jon Lord to be Deep Purple's secret weapon. He essentially took a church instrument and brought it to the forefront by plugging it into a Marshall amp!
This album had their original singer Rod Evans not Ian Gillan singing. Rod was great but Deep Purple wanted to go into a harder rock direction and didn't feel Rod's voice would cut it. So he was fired and Ian Gillan was brought in. Rod created his own band called Captain Beyond after Deep Purple let him go. He stayed with them a while then dropped out of public life completely. I like to give Rod a plug whenever I can. He was a good singer.
Congrats on making it to 100k+ Great song...one of the records that got me into Hammond B3 organs (not a player, just love the sound). I think I still have my 45 rpm copy. Hammonds, along with the Leslie speaker system were a staple in 60s-70s rock and roll bands.
Hey Congrats Mug, so glad you made your target, and before your birthday too! I was in a band back in the 70’s and we did some Deep Pirple. People loved it and we had a lot of fun with these tunes. Cheers from Canada 👍🎉🎄🇨🇦
This was released back in the day when somebody would release a version, then somebody else would release another version THE SAME YEAR. Lots of times, the SECOND ONE would get the better sales, and this one was one of those.
You've got to be a songwriter, your terminology was perfect. As far as the keys on the bridge, Jon Lord had to be listening to Brother Jack McDuff in his free time. That's who I hear.
Sir, try TOMMY BOLIN "Dreamer" with Great Dynamics and "Post Toastee" where ever member of the band gets to ''show off'' a little. I would suggest using the studio versions on youtube.
Finally we've made it!!! Congrats for 100K subs Mug!!!
Love this early Deep Purple song. It's a great driving song too!
Jon Lord was always a massive beast on that Hammond B3.❤
"Child in Time" Live, in 1970 ... EPIC !!!

Rolling Stones “Sympathy For The Devil” uses the same beat.
