Yeah, I think I'll just keep the version that I have wherein all my mods work and I don't need to worry about updating anything. Some of my mods and cc are literally 20 years old.
Most of these claimed fixes are available for free in the modding community (apart from the pink soup, which EA can't fix, either), and they already gave me the game for free (though I still use the old "was on disc" version because I've been simming that long). EA wasn't going to get any money from me, anyway. I haven't bought anything from EA since about 2019 and this doesn't tempt me in the least. 😆

I have the Ultimate Sims 2 already installed. My game doesn’t look nice and smooth like yours and others I’ve seen. It’s so pixelated. The only graphics setting available is 800x600. It looks awful. Do you know if there is a work around this or should I just buy the new version? I started playing Sims with 3, which is my favorite. I want to like 2, but the graphics are so bad. I have a gaming computer and Windows 11.
@ Bless you! It worked! I got my daughter to install it for me. Now we're figuring out how custom content works in this game. It's not bad, just different than what we're used to in Sims 3 ans 4.
I was waiting for your insights before “upgrading” to Legacy, knowing how much you struggle(d) with the pink flashing. I’m not at all surprised EA didn’t actually fix it. It would’ve been their only selling point for us oldschool simmers. I’d rather stick to my _totally legit_ copy of UC and save my money for an SSD card
I remember that I wrote to EA in 2017 but I didn't get The Sims 2 :(. So I use the pirated version. But recently my game has pernament pink soup and crashes and I can't fix it :( (I used many guides). So I wanted to buy The sims 2 Legacy Edition, but now I don't know if that's a good idea. (I can "fix" things from IKEA. It's not a problem. But If homecrafter doesn't work, I feel sad).
The sims 1 is 20usd, and the sims 2 is 30usd and 40usd for both in America. For me, it's 100% worth it, but I want an easy setup and better compatibility between various devices. Besides, any abandoned ware I get, I scrub through in an offline safe first, just because I'm extra cautious with potential malware. (Which, I advise anyone do as well.)
I know it's off topic. but I have a problem with the sims 1 legacy edition. For some reason, when I restore my old saves, the game still loads the old version of the neigbourhood. any ideas
Oh dang! I haven't played around with Legacy TS1 yet other than just opening it and seeing what it was like. I will try to put in my old Let's Play save and report back...
@@TeaAddict I think it's a matter of different contents of folders and different categorization of files contained in them. But honestly, when I started the game and my saves didn't load, I wanted to throw it all away. I tried to do some strange file transfers eplacement and other 'tricks on a stick', but unfortunately, the game is stubborn. What's interesting is that even if I want to change lots in the neighbourhood, the game is also resistant to it
I clicked so fast. I really want to buy the legacy edition because installing via other means/sites seems so complicated but I am not sure if I am gonna have the same problems..😅 I am still tempted tho
@@maRRiiH95 it's truly not super complicated to install Starter Pack, but if you want a legitimate copy and have the money, by all means go this route ❤️ the re-release does appear to have SOME optimisations and may run slightly smoother for you, but it's certainly not a guaranteed problem free experience
if you don't already have the UC obtained thru origin, _it may_ be worth it purchasing the legacy on EA app (or steam) even you don't ever plan on playing it, just to legitimize whatever ahoy-there-matey version you're already playing. i've got UC plus sims 3 and 4 plus various packs i purchased thru origin, _but i play ahoy-there-matey versions_ bc the EA launchers are/always been resource hogs that make every game i've played thru unstable.
I originally bought the entire Sims 2 collection on discs with all add ons / packs, etc . ... And my system couldn't locate the .exe file for the game which has never allowed me to download or play this game... Even threads of the game left over (which I can't even locate in the root system files) won't allow me to download the base game disc for the Sims 2 base game.... I hoping that by getting this release version via EA app I can finally play this game again...... I'm hoping this release is not just for a limited time again....
You don’t need to use mods at all, but there are 20 years of mods available and if you’re coming from sims 4, there might be gameplay tweaks that you miss. There’s a prom mod, playable school mods, parenting mod, etc that just take ideas from sims 3 and 4 for sims 2. The game is fine to be played without mods though, a bit dated
I still have all my CDs for the Sims and Sims 2, including all the packs and CC. Is it possible to load and make the games playable with mods? Thank you in advance for your reply. 🙏🏽
Yep! It's just a bit more complicated - personally, I have all of the discs for sentimental reasons but I still go for downloaded versions for modern windows. I believe you can still play with discs, but it's not something I know much about sorry ❤
@ Thanks. I’ll wait until next week to see if they put out another “fix” for the glitches. I’ll probably get the updated versions and figure out a way to install the Ikea pack. I’ll miss my mods and CC though. 😢
I'm considering getting the sims 2 starter pack, but my question is will I have to do additional fixes to get the game to run without issues? I read that it comes with a lot of fixes but I'm not sure if that's all I will need
It totally depends on how much custom content and how many mods you want to run with. If not much, Starter Pack (which comes with RPC) will do basically all of the things!! TS2.cord.co is the best guide ❤
@@soundberry absolutely! Play vanilla for a while to get a feel for the game and then maybe you can start dipping your toes into mods when it feels right 🥰
I think EA re-released Sims 2 so they can point at it and say, "See, no one wants it, now we have a very expansive Sims 4 for you so just forget about Sims 2." Trying to ignore the Sims 2 community wasn't working so they're trying to ruin the game for any new fans.
Even though I have the UC I did get this new version for the future, I think once the community starts working on patching in stuff like rpc, body shop, ui scaling fixes etc this newer version will be the best way to play but for now if you have the UC stick with that with the fixes applied till legacy is fully fixed by modder's
Sims 2 not meant to play a singular household? Did you play Sims 2 back in the day? Rotational play is possible and also popular, but I'd say rotational and single household were equally popular. Yes, the game world clock works differently which makes it easier to play rotational, but a great deal of players only played in one household.
I will skip this for my laptop…I have my old disc version on my main PC but was trying to use OSAB for my laptop for easier object creation but. Windows 10 and DX9
As in you have the directx9 error? Just need to run the game in windowed or borderless, or it may be a screen refresh rate issue. For most people the directx9 error is solved by running windowed or windowed borderless tho ❤
Good for you! Go ahead and grab them - the double birthday sale thing was $60 for me aha. I will probably grab TS1 but leave TS2 unless those patches really do amazing things
Instead of giving more money to ea, i buy older sims games used and use an external disc reader :p I once found all of sims 1 and 2 expansions and game included for like 20€ at a garage sale lol
I'm glad its been released again but honestly its too late, EA has already changed teams and if they kept the sims 1 and 2 out alongside the sims 3 and 4 i think the community would have been in a better place then it is now. Don't get me wrong, people will foolishly buy both the sims2 and 1 even though there's literal guides of how to go about it online. But EA is only doing this for money due to the fact that people are BORED of the sims4. They don't care about the sims2 or 1, couldn't careless. As usual though, sim players wont put their money where their mouth is. DONT buy.
I dont think its really fair to judge the game with a fully modded game, it just got re released, lets wait for the mods to get fully tested and updated . Also, I've seen a lot of people complain about crashes and bugs, but no one post their system specs, like what OS, Processor and Graphic Card? maybe there are some combinations that have more bugs than others, which would explain why some doesnt have any problems. I wonder since this is """techincally""" a new release, EA would patch some of the bugs That being said, this video was very helpful, I think if you have the ultimate version running you are okay for now. I think people forget that the EA app is cutting support for 32bit games, so older games wont open anymore from what I've read.
@@hlrartschadenfreude6430 in this video I was testing on Win11, on my gaming & streaming PC with a 24-core AMD CPU, NVIDIA 4080ti GPU, 64gb ram, 2x 1TB SSDs (1 devoted to my Linux install). I was purposefully stress testing the re-release to see how it performed with a full mods and downloads folder because it was the fastest way to see what was working and what wasn't, and if the claims of improvements and fixes were founded or not. Compared to how old faithful version of TS2 runs for me on Linux now, while there may be some small improvements with S2 Legacy Edition, I actually DO think it's fair to compare especially when people may be considering making a $50 purchase, or not 👍🏼 I am glad you found the video helpful regardless. If that's true about 32bit games, they probably shoulda updated it then 🤣 maybe that's why you can get it on Steam as well, lol

Edit: oh I forget about it, but do you know any neighborhood completed with sims, builds with cc and mods? I really wanted to download one cuz I don't enjoyed making sims and builds.
@@biancabfa I don't, but I recommend going to ts2.cord.co and it guides you through the whole process from start to finish ❤️
@@TeaAddict thank you I'll definitely check it out.
I don't know if you saw the edit part of my comment, so I'm sending here again.

@@biancabfa there are many, check out the neighbourhoods section of ModTheSims for TS2. Most are cc-free or contain minimal cc, but have lovely builds.
@@TeaAddict thank you thank you so much for answering my questions!! ❤️
Man, they didn't fix anything core wise!
I mean, I thought they were going to include reshade by default, community time, free object rotation... idk, so many great additions that we got over the years, thanks to the amazing modders of this community!
I expected more, not gonna lie.
I hope they take criticism and continue upgrading this spectacular game.
Thanks for sharing this, Beth!
slapt sub button so fast
EA are about money over quality it seems, demand refunds people!
Wait Sims 2 had home crafter; i bought this game, i still play Sims 2 since 2004 and i learn about this programme right now 😂😭also i never saw it in my Sims files to play with it😢
@@mariavlahaki9905 sooo many people in my stream while I was filming this (experienced TS2 players) were like "wait what's home crafter??" So you're not alone 🤣 you can download it though if you want to play with it!
@@TeaAddict i would love too... I'll try it later but where can i find it?
@mariavlahaki9905 modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Sims%202:Official%20Site%20Archive as always with TS2, everything is just a google search away my dear!
@@TeaAddict thank you so much ☺️☺️
I have the Ultimate Sims 2 already installed.
@@janinelew2483 you need to download and run "Graphics Rules Maker" 👍🏼
I tried to do some strange file transfers
eplacement and other 'tricks on a stick', but unfortunately, the game is stubborn. What's interesting is that even if I want to change lots in the neighbourhood, the game is also resistant to it
@@oskarpilarski7291 hmm okay, sounds complicated. I'll look into it today if I have time x
I got ts2 a few years ago by DL it off a nonnnn legjit site. Do i need to delete all those saves first ?
No, this will be a new install with all of its own file paths 👍🏼
Ok, so question. I have the original discs for Sims 2, can I use my disc to add the Ikea stuff to this legacy version?
Yes you can if you still use and play your disc version
@@TeaAddict Yeah, I use alternative versions like most people do because I don't want my discs worn out. But I do still have them!
@@nedrane297 me too!!
How did you fix the glitch in create a sim where you click on custom skins but it won’t click out of it?
She loaded Ultimate Collection to show it. EA said they will do more patches to the sims 2, so they might fix the bug soon for Legacy edition.
@ ohh ok thank you soo much
Hi. This might be a stupid question but how can I get this on my MacBook Air?
Hey! I am not very experienced with Mac, does Mac have the Steam gaming platform available?
So i think i will keep my sims 2 game that i already have. the only thing i would be interested in would be mods for the sims 2 i have now.
@@herberthendrick I believe it will be for sale always but who knows. I'd try the OSAB starter pack on your system and see if it works
Glad there’s a patch incoming soon!
I wonder what they'll fix haha
I'm so confused. So is the only way to play sims 2 is to play with mods? I dont use mods in sims 4.
^ great answer
Omg body shop isn’t there?
I'm considering getting the sims 2 starter pack, but my question is will I have to do additional fixes to get the game to run without issues? I read that it comes with a lot of fixes but I'm not sure if that's all I will need
It totally depends on how much custom content and how many mods you want to run with. If not much, Starter Pack (which comes with RPC) will do basically all of the things!! TS2.cord.co is the best guide ❤
@TeaAddict Okay, thanks ^^ I love modding but I'm thinking of playing vanilla since I never played before
@@soundberry absolutely! Play vanilla for a while to get a feel for the game and then maybe you can start dipping your toes into mods when it feels right 🥰
Waffle Mix Ins has a post regarding Sims 1 and 2 on his Patreon page about how to get Scriptorium to work in the Legacy version
That's good news!
do mods work in the new sims 2?
Most of them, yes. As I talk about in the video, currently all mods seem to work other than .asi mods
I think EA re-released Sims 2 so they can point at it and say, "See, no one wants it, now we have a very expansive Sims 4 for you so just forget about Sims 2." Trying to ignore the Sims 2 community wasn't working so they're trying to ruin the game for any new fans.
😂🙈🙊 if that's the case, I don't think it's going well for them
did they fix the bella goth bug?
As in her being missing? That's not a bug, that's LORE 😂
Back in the day I only played one household. ... And then I discovered rotational play, and I've never looked back 😅
I will skip this for my laptop…I have my old disc version on my main PC but was trying to use OSAB for my laptop for easier object creation but. Windows 10 and DX9
17:21 ugh facts. If I had TS4 build mode in TS2 that’d be perfect. It’s the perfect game.
Also I am a veteran player, playing since TS1 was released and I still love watching these videos!! 😊
As in you have the directx9 error? Just need to run the game in windowed or borderless, or it may be a screen refresh rate issue. For most people the directx9 error is solved by running windowed or windowed borderless tho ❤
Honestly I don't really care about problems, they will eventually be patched/modded. I think $40 is a fair price to own both games on Steam.
Good for you! Go ahead and grab them - the double birthday sale thing was $60 for me aha. I will probably grab TS1 but leave TS2 unless those patches really do amazing things
Hi I really enjoy it
Instead of giving more money to ea, i buy older sims games used and use an external disc reader :p I once found all of sims 1 and 2 expansions and game included for like 20€ at a garage sale lol
Same here. Iam on my way to buy orginal disk all sims collections
Sims, sims 2 and sims 3 much better then this trash on EA and steam
I always wanted Sims 2 digitally, so it’s a buy for me, even tho i know how to obtain it for free, don’t ask, i know it’s stupid
DONT buy.
Luckily I played the game for 8 hours no issues sorry if y’all had some
Well we all know it would be issue
If it doesnt have Multiplayer its useless
I dont think its really fair to judge the game with a fully modded game, it just got re released, lets wait for the mods to get fully tested and updated .
Also, I've seen a lot of people complain about crashes and bugs, but no one post their system specs, like what OS, Processor and Graphic Card? maybe there are some combinations that have more bugs than others, which would explain why some doesnt have any problems. I wonder since this is """techincally""" a new release, EA would patch some of the bugs
That being said, this video was very helpful, I think if you have the ultimate version running you are okay for now.
Compared to how old faithful version of TS2 runs for me on Linux now, while there may be some small improvements with S2 Legacy Edition, I actually DO think it's fair to compare especially when people may be considering making a $50 purchase, or not 👍🏼
I am glad you found the video helpful regardless. If that's true about 32bit games, they probably shoulda updated it then 🤣 maybe that's why you can get it on Steam as well, lol
