Hi Tony, Could possibly be the tuners.. the standard ones are pretty flimsy but at the price of the guitar they have to cut a few corners somewhere. The Gotoh ones I put on mine are a good upgrade. Bought them on the bay for about $70 aud As long as your pre stretching your strings a bit and winding them on right then the other place to look may be if the strings are binding at the nut at all. If you’re not handy with that sort of thing it might be worth getting it set up first and then see if that fixes it. If it’s set up well I’d be changing the tuners. Sonnet as well hey.. hope you like it, I’m still really impressed with mine.
Cheers Pat,, yeah I noticed when I watched an RK comparison of the laminate and solid parlours that I really like the laminate one.. it’s got something. Just wish it had a 1 3/4 nut.. but I guess it’s their budget/ entry guitar so possibly aimed at kids. I sent them an email before I bought it asking about a wider nut option but they didn’t bother to reply
I have a similar model RK. Question - could you have left the ferrells in place and the new Gotoh sd90 machine heads fit into them? Also, what's the hand drill/reamer tool you used there called?
Hey man cool lil Guitar hey?.. I honestly can't remember why I used the new ferrells. Most likely the original were Chrome and not nickel but also may have been the shaft size. Sometimes that can be slightly different. Thats a 4-12mm tapered reamer, it's not ideal as it has a taper but in this case it was so close to fitting that it worked fine to take a bit of paint off. Some sort of stepped reamer would be better, or actually a wrap of sandpaper on a pencil would have done the job.
Sigma make some awesome guitars. If it’s a slotted headstock Rubner make a wicked brass plate set around $90 on eBay.. very nice tuners.. otherwise for the normal headstock the Gotohs are a good “go to”.. pun intended haha..
I bought one too. I am having issues with it staying in tune. Also bought the sonnet blackstar amp. Thanks for the videos.
