I lost my mother around the time Achtung Baby was released and the line in this song “There is a silence that comes to the house where no one can sleep” could not have been more true, as our home was no longer filled with the sound of her voice and laughter...only memories. This song helped me through one of the toughest times of my life and I can’t thank you enough. A true classic,
I'm pretty sure that Bono refers to his mother when he sings "When I was all messed up, and I had opera in my head (reference to his father) / Your love was a lightbulb hanging over my bed"
I named my daughter Alayna Violet after this song. it is still my #1 favorite song of U2's ever....so many memories with it. Last week, at almost 5 years old, I had her listen to the song on AB, she had quite a smile on her face....i think it was pride....she's already a U2 fan. Hearing her sing "Ultraviolet liiiiiight!" is priceless!!!
It's such a happy good vibe song no wonder she had a smile on her face lol. It's refreshing to hear you're getting her into some real music before she starts listening to niki Minaj and the likes :(
It's unbelievable how The Edge has the most powerful riffs but the most gentle and clear voice. I think we can consider him the Sound Maker of U2, as long as Bono is the Soul Maker. Without Larry and Adam, however, they would never have been playing for so many years. Fantastic Band.
This has got to be the most hair standing on end performance U2 have ever done! They must have sat back, looked at this and thought "f@#k that was good!" The lightning and stage crew need medals.
They are the most unique rock band with the best lyrical content. Plus the edges approach to guitar in a rock band was completely different making them even more unique. Best band there ever was is and will be.
People can criticise U2 but their durability and worldwide acclaim speak for themselves. Their music connects with people in their souls..........and you feel you've travelled years of your life with them.
Agreed - from a begging korean province even whose dwellers are the fake ones who pretend true Corean ancestors’ pride as they don’t have its own but mixed into them only to parasite them.
This song never gets old. To be standing there beneath a mirror ball wearing a jacket projecting laser beams on everyone, with a circular mic that you can swing from, and to be called Bono.. What an amazing band.
I also lost my wife. We attended a U2 concert in 1987 and their last song was Light my Way. I remember how we were both in awe of U2 and this song and felt those goosebumps. It made my hair on the back of my neck stand on end. I would give anything to feel those feelings again. U2 was the best band ever. My condolences for your loss.
This performance of Ultra Violet made me finally see the greatness of this song. Over the last 25 years, I have always "kind of liked" this song. This specific performance somehow deconstructs the song just enough to allow the listener to really understand the arrangement and to hear the melodic change-ups better than the album version ever did. The Edge's guitar playing and, more important, background vocals ring through more clearly with this mix and prove they're the engine behind the song; both seemed under-mixed on the album version. Because of this performance, Ultra Violet is now one of my favorite U2 songs. I wish I could get this concert on CD....
thats awesome. Bonos voice was a bit under the weather for this particular night unfortunately because this was the show they decided to release way ahead of time and also live stream on youtube. It didnt do justice to what his voice can do.
I think that is trademark U2, experiencing the songs differently from the album when they are played live. But I especially have that with songs from AB, like this Ultra Violet for example: so much deeper than the album version. I've had the same with Mysterious Ways, One, Until the End of the World (all three have a different vibe and extended solos live) but especially Love is Blindness from the Sydney live show... that was pure magic. In the same context I also really loved the live versions of Gone, Last Night on Earth, Dirty Day, and Please; they reinvented these under-appreciated songs and me likey. Somewhere halfway through the 360 tour they replaced Ultra Violet by Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me, and that also sounded so f*cking awesome. And getting this show on CD isn't really that difficult. If you have the DVD you just convert the audio file to flac or wave files and burn them to a disc.
The arrangement was always there ! I feel Enos production actually takes it to another level ! This is the best live version by a Country Mile but the album version is magical....
Thirty five years of songs and still at the top. Ultra Violet this time, Every Breaking Wave on the last Tour ... Always pure moments dancing with Angels. Thx Boys !
+Caius Yes, it was such a huge creative leap in 1991. When I first heard Zoo Station, I was blown away by the transformation. Definitely one of the best albums of the 90's!!

This is possibly their best song ever the way it was played at 360. Was an ungrinded diamond for 18 years but finally they discovered it. It is so complete; powerful and melodic at the same time. But the best version is no doubt Sheffield Aug 20, 2009!
For their ups and downs (in terms of selling albums/CDs/digital, which is, unfortunately, how the industry rates band), U2 has always been an amazing live band. Was lucky to see the ZooTV tour, when Achtung Baby was the new album. For a stadium show, they made it feel intimate. Love the 360tour DVD!

U2 is my oldest love in music. Bono's voice, Edge's great sound and guitar playing and the solid and original spine of the band with Larry and Adam who are always forgotten... This is the absolute best version of Ultraviolet (Light My Way) in terms of both presentation and performance. Arguably the best song on Achtung Baby. From Larry's matter-of-fact demeanor, to Adam's devilish smirk and great smile, to The Edge's ever-present technical mastery of the guitar, to Bono's command and control of the way he has to use his voice to sing now, these Lads never-ever cease to amaze.
I was there that day in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl. All I can say Wow what an awesome experience!💫 That was my daughter's first ever concert too, nothing but the best band will do, Viva U2!🙌✌
Ultraviolet is probably one of the most underated U2 songs ever !!

Maravilhosa essa música
