    Such artistry, beauty of tone, magnificence of vocal delivery is unequaled. There is no one on the operatic stage that can equal Sergei Lemeshev. The accoustically vocal teachers (?) would be well put to pay attention when their students began to ask, "Why is there no one who can sing like this today?" Or
    even, "Why can't YOU teach me to sing the correct way as Lemeshev did?"

    No words. They cannot convey how ecstatic this rendition makes one feel. Lemeshev - simply the best.

    Simply sublime. I can't find the proper adjectives to describe my feelings after listening to Lemeshev's rendition of this beyond sky and sea aria. S.T.

    I've been working in this business for abt. 50 years, and I am certainly not given to ecstatic outbursts of enthusiasm, but this is about as close to perfect as anything I have ever heard the human throat produce.

    Personally, I believe young singers can learn everything they need to know abt. singing by simply listening carefully to singers like this than they can from their "voice teachers" who are mostly just failed singers themselves who have nothing to offer their students but their own faults, mistakes, bad habits and misconceptions abt. singing. Of course there are (a very few) exceptions, but they are truly the exceptions that make the rule.

      you may teach technique but the genius is inherent in the voice itself.cannot be aquired or learned.its either there or not.this russian tenor just has "the gift"

      “we are dealing with something for which there is only one appropriate expression, mysterium tremendum. . . . The feeling of it may at times come sweeping like a gentle tide pervading the mind with a tranquil mood of deepest worship. It may pass over into a more set and lasting attitude of the soul, continuing, as it were, thrillingly vibrant and resonant, until at last it dies away and the soul resumes its “profane,” non-religious mood of everyday experience. . . . It has its crude, barbaric antecedents and early manifestations, and again it may be developed into something beautiful and pure and glorious. It may become the hushed, trembling, and speechless humility of the creature in the presence of-whom or what? In the presence of that which is a Mystery inexpressible and above all creatures.”

    Sorry if my comment upset. Just responding to over-praise when I think there are better singers of this. In a Russian song I'm sure Lemeshev outshines Italian tenors. I apologise again.

    Some stupid comments here-- can't you hear he's strangling some of those higher notes. There's a nasal quality to his voice. Prefer Kozlovsky myself!

    • @MazaikaDuo

      bin don I think you are confusing so called rules of voice production with a real mastership when singer has a multitude of emotions in his voice and makes his listeners to be drone to his sound particularly when they understand the language. As Russian speaker, musician and singer who listen to voices of Kozlovsky and Lemeshev for 35 years I can say that Kozlovsky not a much to Lemeshev.

      @Barone Vitellio Scarpia Lemeshev was a lyrical tenor, Atlantov was/is a dramatic. Lemeshev was an idol of the public, not for nothing. Lemeshev's Lensky was definitely better than Atlantov's. And for me Lemeshev's Cavaradossi is the best one ever, the only one that doesn't shout and sings with his soul. It doesn't mean that Altantov is not a superb singer. He's the last of the greatest and is still living and - I hope - still teaching.

    • @user-lb8km1kd9t
      @user-lb8km1kd9t 4 роки тому +2

      @Barone Vitellio Scarpia Kozlovsky was leggero, not Lemeshev, easy to compare. Corelli was great, but I do prefer Lemeshev's, in our tradition too much shouting was considered as mauvais ton. Imagine - the guy is alone in a prison's cell, he's desperate, he knows precisely he's going to die and the recollection of the beloved one is a last solace. Why shoud he ever bellow?

    • @user-lb8km1kd9t
      @user-lb8km1kd9t 4 роки тому +4

      @Barone Vitellio Scarpia For me all the great Italian singers are shouty, THEIR voices were small, only except Del Monaco who had the same force as Atlantov and probably Siepi, but Siepi's voice is not particularly beautiful compared to the great Russian and Bulgarian basses. Lemeshev didn't have to force - exceptionally beautiful, mesmerizing voice, great tecnique, dramatic talent, phrase, and nobody ever complained they they couldn't hear him at the end of the opera hall). I don't know how Sobinov sang, nobody does now, all my chilhood was with Lemeshev's recordings, my grandparents heard him live at Bolshoi. The best Italian tenor for me is Corelli, beautiful voice, chiaroscuro, etc, very, very handsome man, but still I prefer Russian singers - Lemeshev, Atlantov as tenors, Mazurok and Kondratyuk as baritones, and numerous basses.
