This is definitely a fantastic arc, and imo has probably aged the best out of most of Act 2's arcs. I'm very glad you addressed the major criticisms and laid out why this arc was so important to MHA as a whole. Great video once again!
The school festival's reputation outside of the hardcore fanbase will never stop to sadden me Such a great arc, such a great pair of antagonist, such great moments and ramifications for the future in there... all that to be described as "filler" It's just sad, really Great video Asa, keep up the good work
I am glad you liked it since most didn't. People just don't like the students in general for some reason or down time. They rather have villains and non stop fights with high steaks. I am someone who enjoys the students and don't mind the down time. Also I heard people don't like Gentle or La Brava, saying they are weak villains in the story. I disagree to this as well. They are very different which is nice to see but still fit into the mha world.
It seems like some people want certain action series to start out as shonen (ie perceived thoughts of Naruto, OP, BC, DBZ, etc.), or "transitional shonen" (ie AOT, JJBA, etc.), and turn into seinen (ie Berzerk). This on turn of wanting it "non stop fights with high steaks," and always GRIMDARK with NO RELIEF (for the characters).
@@wanna-be-thinker2377 which is inherently odd considering series like MHA and DB could only ever reach their heights by GIVING their characters downtime and room to breath to set up and actually establish the things that will later be revealed or shaken up in the climax. I don’t think goku’s super saiyan transformation would’ve hit nearly as hard if he just went into it at the beginning of the freeza arc. Y’know? The part of the arc where freeza hasn’t done much to goku personally yet and the concept of what super saiyan even was was still being hyped up and introduced?
CF is probably top 3 when it comes to unique arcs in MHA and it’s really is underrated, I think it’s peak when it comes down to Horikoshi’s pure writting ability. This video was really well done btw 👍
Great video! it hurts when people throw the word "filler" around when they don't even know what it actually means. Beyond that, I like how you addressed some actual criticisms. Also maybe a hot take but Deku vs Gentle is the best FIGHT in My Hero up until idk, Deku vs Nagant? There's actual choreography (which was altered from the manga, rip) in which these two use their quirks in creative ways that not only affect each other but the environment they are in. Speaking of, the constant change in environment is awesome, they go from fighting in the street, to the air, to a construction site, to the forest - it's so dynamic and no other fight in My Hero is like this, usually only having one interesting location (or not even an interesting location lol - looking at your second half, war arc).
off topic but I LOVE FILLERS! A light episode with no major action or without any concequencess of said action not rly doing anything with the plot yet still so enjoyable! thats why i also love ova's and all that
Another great video! While I do believe the arc was a little clumsy in terms of tone, there's no denying the fact that it helped pave the way for arcs like MVA and PLW.
Thank you, thank You for pointing this whole thing out, cause I’m kinda sick and tired people just being nitpicking about the MHA Franchise as a whole, saying that it’s bad and generic
Agreed with this video.Remember bonsai’s pop video when he said the festival arc was filler when he did a video talking about the endeavor arc ?I was confused by what he said considering it wasn’t that bad
Honestly I remember not liking this arc in the manga which was probably my fault for trying to rush through it, but when the anime adapted it I loved every second the characterisation for Jiro, the fight with Gentle, actual redeemable villians, it was such great ground work for the rest if the series and you explain that very well here. Although hot take I actually prefer the fight in the anime but again maybe that's because I was speed reading the manga to prepare for movie 2.
I'm still annoyed with how the anime handled Gentle's backstory. There was a real opportunity to lean into the bleak tone it had in the original manga. Yet whether by budget constraints or design, that opportunity was squandered.
@@watchforever1724 I agree, Gentle and La brava are my very favorite characters overall, and I’m glad this arc was made for me to see them, I want more of them in the future.
the best thing in my opinion about that arc is there is no sign of afo which lets us see how villains that are in no way related to afo do their villainous acts the other best thing is that gentle criminal and la brava are not pure evil and are the true outcasts of society unlike someone else (I'm talking about you toga...)
Watching the anime, this is actually the last arc I enjoyed, and ended up dropping MHA during the first handful of episodes of season 5. Gentle Criminal and La Brava are my favorite characters of the entire series.
It’s sad that the provisional license exam is regarded as one of the worst arcs. The main character’s goal is to become a hero so you would think him getting his license would a very important and iconic moment in the series. I think it’s because the stakes were raised so high in the summer camp arc and All Might VS All for One. The license exam just seemed boring and insignificant in comparison.
I think part of it also is because some are use to the kids "graduating" early, and being apprentices and beginners instead of being students. We want the school part to only be at the beginning of the story, and it leaves the school, even if it only briefly, they DON'T WANT IT TO GO BACK TO IT!!!!!
honestly this arc isn’t that good. just filler that hori used cause tbh he didn’t rlly plan ahead of kamino. it’s also just very boring and just another average school arc.

I really enjoyed the villain's origin story

That's so enlightening! Honestly, thank you for making this.
Really love this video asa CF is so important of an arc and it sucks seeing it get tossed aside personally
Honestly
Cf ?
It's really like Top 3 arcs in MHA
Great points in this video! The festival arc is also important for pacing as it allows us a breather after the intensity of the shie hassaikai arc.
Agreed

@@nightrunner4817 I agree I rewatched it a lot over the years
How can people hate the arc that made Eri smile :(
Because we didn't want to go back to the school
Gentle is one of the best written villains in the show and people call him "boring" and "stupid".
Gentle Criminal is one of my favorite character in this Show/Story

reading a music festical arc and not hearing the music makes me remember how lonely my life is
