The Strokes -- Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond, Jr., Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti -- in the midst of the current madness of readying their upcoming album, each band member freed up some time to talk with us at City Stage in lower Manhattan. Over the course of a couple days, each member of the band touched on their love of music and experiences creating homemade mixtapes.
While reminiscing about influences as varied as 80s Metal and Wham!, Frank Sinatra and Pearl Jam, Puccini and Radiohead, each bandmate shared personal memories of creating and sharing music back in their cassette tape days. The first in the TDK Life on Record Chronicles series, The Strokes pay tribute to the mixtape and the music that inspired them. The Strokes plan to release their highly anticipated fourth album in early 2011.
The fact that Mardy Bum comes on in the beginning helps me sleep at night
Deirdre Cardona Did they choose the song or something?

i can’t believe how nikolai sounds so much like julian, even when jules's voice it’s a little bit raspy than nikolai’s
Evie all that singing ! But yeah, they do sound alike !!
@@internetsummoner And smoking
Internet Summoner damn he really does
So you never heard his solo stuff? I think it's pretty decent
Plot twist: Alex Turner interviewed this session.

julian is so attractive how
Bc he’s famous.
HE KNOWS DESPAIR IN THE DEPARTURE LOUNGE
The Strokes like some of the Arctic Monkeys songs and the Arctic Monkeys were inspired by the Strokes!! That's dope!! Plus they're 2 of my favorite bands!! I remember the Arctic Monkeys playing Reptilia in a small crowed xD.
their take it or leave it cover is actually great too
Lets meet please
That's why every song Nikolai writes, sounds like Radiohead
Fab is so cute :(
5 guys with the nicest faces and the coolest names talking about mixtapes? this really made my day ♥️🥂
Mardy Bum in the beginning... Nice!
fmjohnson019 not when you are not an AM fan
No.
Fab always seems secretly smart.
"c'est cool, nirvana c'est super cool", hahaa nick
MGMT and The Strokes are my two all time favorite bands this interview saved my life
I'm 4 years late but same bro

At the beginning I was like Mardy Bum? Isn't this the Strokes video? haha. Did they ever mention Oasis?
Nikolai said grizzly bear! He's so awesome for that
The moment Nikolai said Crystal Castles was the moment he became my spirit animal
Crystal Castles are wicked cool.
a name saw them open for LCD soundsystem in 2010..... they damaged my hearing
I loveeeeee CC
Oh my god that shit clicks! That is fantastic!
Damn Nikolai likes Radiohead :D thats just...cool

I love both the Arctic Monkeys and the strokes, and the fact they played Sliver by Nirvana, that's awesome.
Julian... he said Moonlight Sonata.. that made me love him even more.
3:22 ♥ "oh my god! that shit clicks!" ♥
Why haven't the strokes and arctic monkeys collaborated on anything yet. This needs to happen lol. A b-side, an EP, dare I even say album. Maybe if the monkeys got famous before the strokes big hiatus. Sigh, maybe one day
When I first listened to their album Angles, I remember telling my friend that one of the songs reminded me of "Despair in the departure lounge" by AM, but they didn't agree. Funny that Albert mentions THAT SONG in this interview that I had never even seen till now.
14 years since this interview, im 16 and into them i wonder if i'll still love them in 14 more years
I love how shy nick is. He's the coolest IMO. Ye it makes no sense but he is;)
ha ! 11 years later im a teen that just got into the strokes and i sooo agree!
@@sofiaatthevampiremansion5974hey i’m also a teen who just got into the strokes!
Omg my favorite band likes my other favorite band. When they said they liked MGMT I got so pumped like yes. The strokes and MGMT are one of the greatest bands that are still alive.
Have you guys ever noticed theres rape hiss on Room on Fire , every song has it at the beggining before song begins
*Tape hiss lol
elmexicanochilango yeah im pretty sure the 5 or 6 seconds of hiss before each song represents the pause between songs when you listen to the vinyl but i could be wrong
The Strokes in HD, damn
i love Fabrizio's analogies
The Strokes telling their history as music lovers in this very intimate interview. I love it.
This is the most relatable thing. Makes me want to go into my mom’s attic to find my mixtapes.
Yes they are indeed a seriously good looking bunch. And Nick's french imitation is awesome. I love hearing their stories, this is such a cool video, thank you for this. I love hearing people's stories about their adolescence. I remember fixing many of my brother's tapes that I inherited using a pencil, scissors and scotch tape so as to avoid getting my ass kicked.
Mor etti! And the throwing tapes off the balcony is a nice image, the spool
albert's eyes are like incredibly beautiful.
I Looooovovvvveeeee Julian's taste in music! It's so varied, not to mention I love those songs too. Just makes him even more cute that he likes all those songs!
I love how I can relate to all the "you had to wait on the radio for a certain song to play so you can record it" or the " i'd copy it from a vinyl to tape" loveeeeee these guys

In 20 years or so theyre going to have a video like this but the band in the video will be talking about how they grew up using cd's.

I LOVE ALBERT AND NIKOLAI BECAUSE THEY SAID MGMT
Idk there's something about this interview; maybe I love hearing people talk about music, maybe it's cause I think they all have nice voices... it kinda makes me sad I wasn't born earlier to experience the things they're talking about or The Strokes at the beginning of their careers
Still have a fan crush.... Discovered The Strokes in 04. Nick never ages 😭😊❤️

Time capsule, final answer.- classic Julian
6:10 I love Fab
I wasn’t a big fan of the strokes until 2014 and they were having a concert at The Chelsea in Cosmopolitan and everyone was going. I listened to is this it to see what the hot fuss was about and It Changed my life
i simply love these guys
It's incredible how much technology has shaped they way we listen to music in this modern age, before then it was extremely difficult to organize a collection of CDs of your favorite bands. With credit to their influences mentioned in the video, The Strokes' music really ushered in a new era of music listening into the .mp3 age where we are now.
incredible editing, really makes the video
THIS MAKES ME SOOO HAPPY!!! Strokes FOREVER!!
