Been one of my favourite songs to play ever since i watched your tutorial for the first time, any recommendations on song to learn in that similar rnb style?
Hi 👋🏾 Glad you enjoy this song as much as I do! I don’t know of any other song that sounds close to this one, but another one of my favorite R&B songs to play is called My Life by Adrian Marcel. It’s challenging and sounds super smooth!
Nope! You don’t have to put your ring finger there for that part. Just using the same shape since that’s how I taught it for the earlier section. Thanks for watching!
The delay I’m using is set to a dotted eighth note. How you get that timing dialed in varies, depending on what type of delay pedal you have. Some pedals have a tap tempo and note subdivision settings while others use milliseconds. I arrived at my settings by playing the song at full speed and tweaking the delay timing, little by little, until it sounded right.
You’re amazing for this, I was even enjoying the unseasoned version 😂 but thank you for this, I’m a beginner with an acoustic, so I don’t think this is for me at the moment haha. I’m not sure if you take requests, but if you do, could you please do Deeper by Summer Walker? It’s from her Life on Earth EP. That would be really appreciated, I’m struggling to find tutorials and I really like the way you play!
Great vid man, what settings are you using for the effects? Im using the zoom g5n effects pedal and trine figure out how to get that sound any idea? thx
Thanks so much for doing this! It definitely helped clarify some things, especially the effects, which are amazing, but also make it harder to pick out what’s going on! The one part you didn’t cover was that spicy boi that really hits us....maybe the third time through C. I’m getting AmM7 x06554 and then a walkdown with Am followed by Amadd9? Let me know what you think.
Glad you enjoyed the video! The minor major 7 doesn’t quite fit to my ear, but I’ve listened to some songs on repeat for days before realizing I missed some nuances in the guitar parts. I say play it how you hear it!
@@TizoGuitar I think it’s just the one time at three twenty-two on the track. The rest of the time, I think you’re right that it’s just the m7. JC co-produced this, so there had to be SOMETHING that was a little spicy lol.
Hey there! A sore wrist might mean there’s too much tension in your fretting hand. The only part of your fretting hand that should be sore is the muscle between your thumb and index finger. Avoid using a death grip or bending your wrist too far and try to keep your hand as relaxed as possible. Hope that helps!
Is the ring finger on A minor 7 in the C section supposed to be on the A string or the D string? Because it seems like he does not pluck the A string so I don't see the purpose of the ring finger on the A string instead of the D string.
You’re correct. The A string and ring finger aren’t necessary for that part so feel free to leave them out. For simplicity’s sake, I try to keep to keep the chords and fingerings consistent (using the same shape for the C#m7 and Am7). Thanks for watching!
Hello, I have a Marshall MG 101FX guitar amp and it is equipped with delay. Right now, I think l can play this song relatively well, but when I use the delay, it doesn’t seem to appear in the same way it appears when you play (it feels like my delay is coming too late when I play). Can anyone help me figuring this out?
Hi Pedro! It looks like that amp has a tap tempo button. Try tapping in a quicker tempo setting. We’re aiming for something like a dotted eighth note delay.
@@TizoGuitar Thank you! But I actually tried doing that earlier, and when I click on that button, the delay appears almost instantly. I tried finding a middle ground by clicking again on that button, but the delay stayed the same. So in order for me to return to the “initial delay”, I have to turn off the amp.
Ah okay. Just to be sure, you’re clicking the tap tempo twice to set the tempo right? Seems silly but I thought I’d ask just in case. Pressing once won’t change anything and I made that mistake before.
Hi👋🏾 Usually when learning bar chords, the bar is strongest on the thickest strings and gets weaker as you move down. Before trying to play full bar chords, I suggest just barring all of the strings on the 5th fret and playing each string one at a time. Try to get each string to ring out clearly, making adjustments to your grip (and possibly your thumb position) until you find a way to get all 6 strings ringing clearly at once. This might take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on your anatomy and how strong your hands are. If it’s just a matter of not having enough strength, a few weeks of practice should help. Once you get the bar working well then you add in the rest of the fingers to play an actual bar chord. Adding those other fingers can sometimes cause your bar to get weaker on certain strings again. Repeat the process of trying to get all of the strings to ring out by making slight adjustments. With bar chords my experience is that I couldn’t play them for a while, but daily practice got me to the point where one day it just worked. Guitar is weird like that 😅 Hope that helps✌🏾
