    Hey guys! This video has been seeing some attention lately and I just wanted to let you know that I still stand by a lot of what I say in this video, the Creality CR10 was a good machine for my needs in doing cosplay but in the interest of full transparency, I have since replaced my lone CR10 with two Creality CRO10's, mostly thanks to people like you buying my 3D prints off etsy. My original machine eventually started to go (which is normal given the amount of print time it had) and wouldn't print above a certain amount of Z axis so I stripped it for parts and upgraded late last year.
    I'm not sure if there's much interest in an updated video on this topic but it's something I can certainly consider. 3D printers are an investment in both your money as well as time in terms of upkeep and routine maintenance, and not everyone is super into the idea of all of that.

I’m completely new to 3D printing and it’s all a lot to take in, but I guess if I can learn the modeling wizardry, I can learn this printing thing too!

    If you haven't already, you should try Aqua Net hair spray instead of glue. Less mess and it sticks really well. I've had to put prints in my freezer (the glass and print contract differently) to finally get the print off my bed. Other hair sprays didn't work well, but Aqua Net is amazing and cheap.

    I love the glues stick but i never seen that much glue used on a print bed. I apply two light layers of glue stick on a cold plate. After a few prints the glue makes the bed pretty ruff so ill reflow it with IPA and that will usually get me 5 more prints before cleaning the build plate and re applying new glue.

    Don’t use Bondo use wood filler wood filler you don’t have to wear gloves when applying and you don’t have to wear a mask when applying only wear a mask when you’re sanding

    • @vaultfox

    Great video! I was looking at the Ender 3 Pro printer since it was a little more in my budget, do you think that its bed would be too small to print things such as helmet parts and armor pieces? It’s roughly 220mm by 220mm. I just wanted to be sure! Thanks!

    • @vaultfox
      @vaultfox  3 роки тому +1

      thank you! and y'know, I've seen some people able to fit a helmet on an Ender 3 actually. You have to set your own supports and angle it just the right way on the bed, but it's apparently doable (the helmet I saw was a Mando helmet so might differ with others) ... you are going to have some limitations when it comes to printing armor though, but if you don't mind slicing up armor pieces to print/glue back together it's not a bad printer!

    Thanks for answering my question in the video without me having to ask it XD. I have been using pla for my 3d model prints and i find that it works good and i wanna try petg . have you found any warping if ur wearing your cosplay in the hot sun? i keep hearing pla warps in the sun is this true ? . also blender is free and super easy to learn and get the hang of. it will help if u need to change dimensions on your cosplay on a certain part . I highly recommend learning :)

    • @vaultfox
      @vaultfox  Рік тому +1

      I haven't had any issues with my prints warping in the sun while wearing them, I HAVE had some prints warp a tiny bit when I'm painting them outside, but in those instance it's easy to get a heat gun out and bend them back into shape ... but it's def a good idea to be careful with PLA in the sun. and yeah haha ... I gotta learn Blender, just gotta find the time

    Amazing video, really informative and straight to the point with everything!
    I do have a question though, I went to amazon to search for the printer you linked as the link didn't work and I'm getting many different versions of the CR-10.
    I've mainly been looking for one to make a cosplay I've been wanting to do for years being a Destiny cosplay to wear at my home con being Tekko and have just been wanting to learn/teach myself how to make cosplays with a 3d printer.
    If it isn't a hassle, could you point me to a new link of the printer you use if it's still available?
    Regardless, thank you for making a such simple, to the point and well explained video on a subject that can be VERY confusing at times for new commers!

    Hi Vaultfox, I just started in cosplay. I am thinking about buying a 3d printer. I was wondering, when you printing stuff for a project, like a helmet. Are the finished pieces durable, or fragile? If fragile, what do you do to make your project more on the durable side?

    • @vaultfox
      @vaultfox  3 роки тому +1

      So I'd actually argue that durability relates to the model you're printer rather than the printer itself. I've had some models where the walls of the print are fairly thin, and those are pretty fragile. When I print those, I usually will cover them with resin or fiberglass to give them more durability. You can also try printing with ABS, which is more durable (but harder to print with, I've actually never used it).

    Ender 3, what are your thoughts about it? Can i print a lets say mando helmet without having to slice it up?

    • @vaultfox
      @vaultfox  3 роки тому +1

      I dont have any experience with that printer but I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to slice a helmet up onto it, you’ll just need to do a lot of post-processing work in cleaning up seams
