YOU'RE MY HERO! Thank you SO much for this super helpful video!! We've owned our CanoScan 9000F for YEARS, but hadn't used the negative scanning feature. Now that I actually NEED to scan them, the instruction booklet has long since 'disappeared' and I didn't know what to do - until discovering your fantastic tutorial. What a relief! Thanks again!!
Thank you for your efforts to make this video! I own a 9000F, but it has been years since I last used it. You helped me efficiently begin using it again to scan old photos! It took me a while to understand how to access the CanoScan IJ Scan Utility, because it is no longer a separate download. For those looking (for PC), it is INCLUDED automatically when you install your scanner driver from Canon. After installing JUST the driver, you can then search Windows for "IJ" and the utility will already be on your PC.
Yours has been one of the few review/product demo vids that I watched all the way through & actually found useful for my purposes! Well done...on a side note, your English is so great...I lived in Germany for 3 years and your English makes my German shrink in shame!!! 😉
It's so sad to think how many people like you would exist today if only Germany had not gone to war in 1939. So much was lost to future generations. Thank you for your excellent presentation. I'm glad your ancestors survived. I'm from Houston, TX and your English is fantastic.
Good video. 2 things 1) You have to remove the white cover on the underside of the lid before scanning the slides. 2) I would have liked to see how long it took to scan film at the highest resolution without FARE. Just to see if its the same as the 8800F whick you can get used for about 100 bucks. I do all the corrections manually anyway. FARE misses stuff or makes it to blurry IMO.
Thank you so much!!!! Your video is just what I needed!!!! You explained everything so well. I appreciate this and was actually able to scan the negatives perfectly!!!!! Thanks again!
Thank you! I've been hesitant deciding which scanner to commit to for my negs and photos and your tutorial was so informative and helpful. And your English is fantastic :)
Das ist Toll! Your review is excellent, Your impresion and the function is more clarear to me right now. Maybe adding a second video to watch the results of several kind of images and formats (135mm, slides and 120mm) might be great!
Great video, thank you. I followed all the directions, but I can't find the files after they are scanned. If I use Image Garden, the files cannot be opened and have a question mark. Advice?
Love the Video, as I too have the Canon 9000F scanner as it does the trick task as I used it for medium format as how sharp it is, and also for the 35mm that I use it for images shot on 35mm film panoramic camera Horizant model. But some people like to place the settings to the MAX at 9600 DPI which it will take a very LONG time to scan like from 40minutes to an hour or more. If your using JPEG yes the time will be shorter as I set mine's at TIFF format in which the time will double as I use 3300 DPI, and I will check the sharpness as well. And before you place the film on the film carrier that I suggest that you prepared it to clean the negatives or slides first, and use photoshop to clean out the bits and dust that were left out, and also use a good film cleaner, as I recommend a cleaner called PEC12 or 99% IIsophol Alcohol, and also a Antic Static Film Cloth like Ilford Antisticum cloth. And also to have a view light box that is 5600K with you so you can view the film correctly than looking at a LED light or Fluorescent tube, and strain your eyes.. The other scanner that I have is my Pacific Image PF3600 as use it at 35mm strips, and slides unfortunately that scanner only takes WindowsXP, cannot be use with Windows7 or Windows10. Good Video, Thank You
Hallo, vielen Dank für das Video und die anderen! Würdest Du heute eher die Software von Canon oder Epson auf einem Mac nutzen? Die alten Scanner (9000f, v500) gibt’s mittlerweile recht günstig…
Hello could you please inform me what drivers you did install on your mac. Drivers I found won't work, so canon software does not work. Only Image Capture works fine in combination with Canoscan 9000F, but only A4, fotofilm does not work. On my windows 10 PC all works fine. All information I find on the internet is telling Canon software does not work fine with apple, they advise to use Vuescan instead. I hope you can help. Bye
Can I ask, I still use this scanner and on single slides it is perfect but when I run a 35mm strip through they come out blotchy. Singles are fine but more than one is sometimes mostly not good. Is the scanner just old or something else?
At 3:14, you close the lid and say your ready. On the next view, your pictures suddenly appear. What happened in between? That's what I need to know. I have IJ Scan Utility, but it automatically chooses my multifunction Canon printer. The software I have for the scanner is the older MP Navigator EX, and I am looking for instructions for that. Thanks.
It seems that the Canon software is much less good than the Silverfast software ( german by the way) which was offered before with the first version of Canon 9000
Thanks a lot! I would like to have seen, the final result. How does it looks like? What is the maximum resolution and what are the possibilities of reprocessing the image (Photoshop, Faststone etc.)? How good ist the result, if you take a coulour negative?
Hi, thanks for this. However my issue is different and hope you could assist. I bought a used CanoScan 4200F with facility to scan film negatives since I have some old film strips that need to be digitized. However, the PhotoStudio 5.5 software provided with the original CD for the scanner does not have the option to select Film Negative in the Select Source menu, though it is mentioned in the manual. Do you have any idea why this option is missing in this software and any way to get around this issue and scan my negative flim strips. thank you in advance.
I have very old photographic films. I can not cut photographic films into short strips for scanning in the scanner. This will be real barbarism. I need a slide scanner for a roll photographic film with a frame size of 24 × 36 mm. I also have photographic films with a frame size of 60 × 60 mm and a photographic plate on glass with a size of 90 × 120 mm. What model of the scanner can I digitize these photos?
Hi Daniel, great video, thanks. Question from Hungary. Our father has many 6 cm x 6 cm negatives. As I read this is also possible to scan with this. Am I right? How many negatives in one step? Is it also as simple as in case of 35 mm negative? Thx, Istvan Schmidt
Hello great tutorial, was looking for some info about slide scanning in the 900f, this is perfect. Although I have some very small negatives from a Butlins souvenir key ring, any thoughts how I can scan these ? Thanks
If I were to insert a template to hold 12 35mm slides instead of four (the individual type, not the stringed together kind) would the scanner be able to scan them since they are color positive, not negative and wouldn't need the back light source?
Hi Daniel, Thanks for the review, quite useful. I Have one question, hope you can answer it! I would like to scan including the edges/borders of the film, so to say, without using that plastic tool provided by scanner becaue it blocks the edges. Is that possible or the scanner is scanning the film only when in use with that tool ? Would appreciate your answer!
Hi Daniel, I have got the same issue as Andreas. I cannot find a version of IJ scan utility that has the scangear function. The link you provided does not have it either. Would you know if there was a different way to get the software? I am using a mac as well (as on your video). Thanks ahead!
Hi! Just got this scanner :) Do you have a solution if I want to scan raw files as negatives so it is not converted? I want to do that and change it after in negative lab pro :)
@@E_y_a_l I lost my slide carrier. The app does not seem to recognize slides placed right on the glass, even when positioned correctly in the center. Any idea how to make it work?
Hello! Very thankful for your video. May I ask what software you're running on your iMac? Is it up to date? I have a MacBook Pro running macOS 10.13 and the negative scanner I bought on eBay doesn't work at all. Thank you again!
I don't like your review. You describe very well the usability of the software. What I am missing is the accuracy of the scanner in the highest resolution mode compared to other scanners. You are using the scanner on 2400 dpi and that is I think to low resolution.
Comparing the image quality was simply not the purpose of this video. Many people asked themselves, how the worflow would look like and how media is inserted. This was shown in the video.
I have a perfectly good Canon 5000F scanner which sits on a shelf, absolutely useless because absolutely useless Canon refused to develop a driver for it. I have to keep an old laptop around with windows xp loaded so that I can scan film. Canon are very bad for dissing scanners and printers.
Very little information how to get good results or even compare the results with other techniques (using a camera for example). Wa no real help in making a dicision.
The 9000F is no longer available, but the best alternative Epson V600 works with nearly the same workflow. Amazon-Affiliate-Link: geni.us/cqTODF

Daniel is really good-- honest and through. Also very likeable.
Thanks. Most appreciated. Already had a 9000F and now starting to digitise our photos.
Good video. 2 things

Thank you for showing the video of this scanner,I've just started to use medium format film again.i am looking to get this scanner now.👍

Great to hear that!
Thanks you so much for this Daniel. Keep up the good work and post any more helpful hints that you come across.
You can use use Preview on Macintosh products to scan negatives using the 9000F also, but it is not nearly as convenient as this program
Thank you! I've been hesitant deciding which scanner to commit to for my negs and photos and your tutorial was so informative and helpful. And your English is fantastic :)
Thank you for an excellent, informative tutorial.
Great work
Thank you!
Yes, this is the best how to video.....you saved me a lot of time and headaches...thank you!
Danke....Good video to explain this machine. Maybe a 2nd video showing part 2 of the process.

You should add that protective cover inside the scanner must be removed before. It is easy but some people could find it uneasy to find how to do ti.
Much thanks for the thorough demonstration Daniel!
Super! Dankeschön!
Great video! My local library has one of these that anybody can use. Can't wait to scan my own film!

Any idea if you can scan 127 super slides? I have this scanner but they come out blurry and cut off.
Sehr gut.
Thank you for making your video. It was very helpful to me in getting started.
Interesting tool
Great job Daniel! Thank you

What negative scanning and editing software do you recommend for win11

We Have a question please how about if we have a negative film is bigger than ussualy , what kind of scanner we buy???

If I need something for slides that have a lot of dirt and scratches , will the auto correction fix this as well?

Hi all, which scanning software have you found works best with this scanner?
how do I scan slides on the Cano Scan?
Great review Daniel thanks.
Thank you for the great review. I will be buying this printer/scanner
Great review. Many thanks!
Thanks so much for your review!!
Did you have any trouble installing the software? I downloaded it from the Canon website and it doesn't connect to my laptop (Windows 10).
Excellent review!.
Would you please write the name of the software? I couldn’t find by the name you said.
Hi I have a reel from a movie that is in 35mm could this scanner work for these? or does it only work for negatives?
Hello friend I have one question how do you set the negative configuration to get a good photos?
i have not watched this yet, but that's the answer i want to know as well.
really helpful, thank you!
hey I have a question can I use the canoscan 9950f with my macOs Mojave

Hello great tutorial, was looking for some info about slide scanning in the 900f, this is perfect. Although I have some very small negatives from a Butlins souvenir key ring, any thoughts how I can scan these ? Thanks
I would try just inserting the the same way as regular slides, but scan them with higher resolution in manual mode.
If I were to insert a template to hold 12 35mm slides instead of four (the individual type, not the stringed together kind) would the scanner be able to scan them since they are color positive, not negative and wouldn't need the back light source?
I would say no. Because the scanner lid has a light for the negatives and it is a strip of light that is only aligned with the negative holder.
Anyone know of a scanner I can use by just using my phone ? Maybe Bluetooth .. I don’t have a laptop
Thanks mate!
Thanks!
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the review, quite useful. I Have one question, hope you can answer it!
I would like to scan including the edges/borders of the film, so to say, without using that plastic tool provided by scanner becaue it blocks the edges. Is that possible or the scanner is scanning the film only when in use with that tool ?
Would appreciate your answer!
Ani Zakaryan yes, you can do it also without the frames.
where can you download the IJ scan unility? the only version i can find is the version 2 which does not include scangear
www.canon.de/support/consumer_products/products/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_9000f_markii.aspx?type=drivers&language=&os=macOS%2010.12%20(Sierra)
Hi Daniel, I have got the same issue as Andreas. I cannot find a version of IJ scan utility that has the scangear function. The link you provided does not have it either. Would you know if there was a different way to get the software? I am using a mac as well (as on your video). Thanks ahead!
Thanks! Great job!
How much it cost ?
Hi!
Just got this scanner :)
Do you have a solution if I want to scan raw files as negatives so it is not converted?
I want to do that and change it after in negative lab pro :)
I have the same question. Did you ever figure it out?
Is it possible to scan in this device framed slides? Is it possible to put them in that plastic guide?
It comes with another adapter for slides, as you can see at 1:02
@@E_y_a_l I lost my slide carrier. The app does not seem to recognize slides placed right on the glass, even when positioned correctly in the center. Any idea how to make it work?
how big the photos are i mean in cm or pixels. How is in scanning photos (paper photos)?
cm OR pixels? that... um... what?
How big they are after scanning? In centimeters OR pixels? How good is in scanning photographs..... GOT IT?
Hello! Very thankful for your video. May I ask what software you're running on your iMac? Is it up to date? I have a MacBook Pro running macOS 10.13 and the negative scanner I bought on eBay doesn't work at all.

Are you German? :)

Toll, dass der Typ sich überhaupt die Mühe gemacht hat. Franzosen, Chinesen und Japaner haben schlimmere Akzente.
