Went on a works trip to Leyland whilst I was at Tech college in 1972, saw this truck coupled
to a tank trailer done in Castrol colours, looked gorgeous

I remember seeing a tractor unit Leyland gas turbine with a test trailer loaded with concrete blocks on the Mancunian Way in Manchester years ago,never seen one since,it sounded like a Bat-mobile.
Yes Leyland had a fleet of 6 of them out on test.
why dint leyland use them bumpers and wings on the normell models it looks very nice

god you're goin back some there , i remember being bought that book for christmas back in 1972 along with the observer book of commercial vehicles . i liked the picture of the leyland gas turbine truck too . have you ever seen the pirelli ford cargo? that's awesome !!!
No never seen that truck.
Another one of Leyland's dead ends, sadly. by the time all ancilliaries had been added, there was no weight advantage over a conventional diesel. when loaded it was very slow to pull away, and returned only 5 mpg. performance wise it was around 350 bhp I think...not too sure on that one, and had conventional rear axles and a SCG transmission
Scg transmission = win!
