When we used to play long time ago, the referees would inspect our nails and whether we were wearing any rings or earings. How come they do not do that anymore? Also, in our times, all our defence was on the ball, not on the bodies of the opponents. How come players nowadays are pushing CC to the ground even when the ball is not in play, or try to poke her eyes, or try to prevent her from moving?? That's not basketball anymore.

Back in the '70s and early '80s basketball in the NBA was called "one of the most violent non-contact sports" being played professionally. The game was VERY physical! The NBA cleaned it up because it was detrimental to the game, and the financial aspect (star players get injured and can't play, people don't buy tickets). The WNBA and the referees have an opportunity to take a huge step forward in their popularity, or they can completely screw this up. Clark is a special talent, and in the future there will probably be another special talent that comes in (female version of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, etc...).

@@VIEWITIS Length is an issue because the potential to do damage is far more likely and the amount of damage is greater than short ones; that's not to say you can't cause damage with short nails but the chance that short nails could cause any damage let alone significant damage is whole lot less likely.

Back in the '70s and early '80s basketball in the NBA was called "one of the most violent non-contact sports" being played professionally. The game was VERY physical! The NBA cleaned it up because it was detrimental to the game, and the financial aspect (star players get injured and can't play, people don't buy tickets). The WNBA and the referees have an opportunity to take a huge step forward in their popularity, or they can completely screw this up. Clark is a special talent, and in the future there will probably be another special talent that comes in (female version of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, etc...).

Easy to fix. Tell the opposing team that if there is any further flagrant fouls on Clark, the player will be suspended without pay for 5 games AND the coach will be suspended for 2 game. This type of play needs to be stopped, from the top down. And while you are at it, ban fingernails longer than 1/4 inch. That’s just a safety hazard.
