- After Carillion - the UK's second biggest construction firm - collapsed, the question of private companies providing public services became a hot political issue. But why would governments get companies to do their work for them, and what's at risk if it goes wrong?

This was about government hiring private companies to do certain jobs rather than a private company doing outsourcing.
Here is an eye opener for you,
My hospital pays a company 45p to stick one label on one box and they stick them on hundreds of boxes.
To equate this cost, an NHS worker would have to stick 21 labels onto a box an hour to equal the hourly wage of the NHS member of staff who used to do this work.
NHS workers are capable of sticking 1 label every 5 seconds.
So instead of paying £9.50 for an NHS employee to do this job, my hospital is paying a private company £324 an hour.
The NHS is being bled out by the decision makers.
I feel very foolish, but I had no idea this problem exists in the UK. I thought govt handing everything over to corporations was a classically American issue.
The Brits follow the US lead on most things.
We invented the scam mate. Can you guess who owns all the companies that get the big government cash?
James Grey - Enlighten me, please! One of the big players here is Halliburton, which of course made Dick Cheney a VERY rich man. And now to add to an endless list of their misdeeds, the Koch brothers are on a major campaign to funnel tax dollars away from public schools and into private "schools" that provide no education whatsoever.

Outsource the news
Outsourcing is hiring people from other countries and not leaving jobs for nationals. Stop lying.
Private finance initiative's should be a much bigger concern to the British people then the BBC have made it out to be in this video.
Private companies are literally sucking public services like the NHS dry. The government doesn't want to borrow in the short term to reduce its costs but scandalously ends up with a debts of about seven times the original cost as is the case with PFI's used to build NHS hospitals.
What should of cost the NHS £11.4 billion has now due to PFI's and their extortionate interest rates cost us £79 billion and rising. Now that's only the cost for building hospitals, " the total PFI tab for the taxpayer stands at £301 billion for infrastructure projects with a capital worth £54.7 billion. That's a difference of £246 billion". Just think of what we could have possibly done with all the money. But now sat in the few pockets of these private companies whilst the public suffers.
me outsourcing my work to someone who outsources his work to someone who outsources his work to the poorest person on the earth
There was an onion video about that
Kbunl
stop rapping and speak???
Stupid question, private companies still can do a better job, than anything run by the state
Private companies can be just as bad and corrupt as the state. Small business and small government is the key
