    You asked what people would like to watch more of, I would like to see different videos of you explaining and showing different turquoise from different mines and explaining the looks of it, lol I'm super obsessed with turquoise and want to learn as much as possible about all the different mines and looks, I watched that turquoise documentary by Patrick voillot and it explained Persian turquoise quite well but not American

      I definitely can do that my friend there’s so much to talk about with turquoise when it Comes to a parents and I can definitely help identify the location in mind but there’s no guarantee which makes it even more fun I will definitely do this when I go to Quartzsite this weekend
      I love Patrick’s gemstone videos sometimes I watch them a few times a year

    OK, it's time to set up a Patreon account and allow subscribers to help with the broke and hungry problems. Seriously. Loved the lamps this video, plus it was quieter than usual. I wasn't keen on that booth with the dyed / enhanced stones though. Thank you from BC Canada :)

      I thought about it for the last two years I just want to make sure to offer something worthwhile as a Patreon incentive Like maybe ruff slab or Cabot gemstones maybe finish story or maybe lessons I have a hard time excepting help from others financially

      I agree about fake and dyed stones. But you don't need to offer anything for patreon you post videos when we have missed shows. My husband has only missed 2 shows till pandemic. So this has been nice. Writers use patron and don't send anything.

    Hi buddy this is grimm the gem silica guy, I actually had a question for ya, (lol I got locked out of my other yt account forgot my password)I'm working a beautiful gem silica ammolite pseudomorph but it has a natural crack running through it,how do I fill it with silver and actually get the metal to stick to the stone, I tried soldering it but the metal just falls out of the rock? thanks dave I appreciate u reading this

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  3 роки тому +1

      Do you know I’m not exactly sure how they go about doing that I suspect that may be they use a little grains of pulverized and powdered Silver or gold when they do that kind of stuff do you also might want to try some PMC precious metal clay sorry took me so long to see this you tubers been hiding a lot of comments from me

    • @mcgooglio3684
      @mcgooglio3684 3 роки тому

      Tough to say without seeing it but in theory, you might use clay to make a mold of the crack, then cast it with silver and epoxy it into the piece. Not sure I'd be able to do that myself but thought I'd throw it out there.

    What is the most expensive material you have ever worked with?

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  3 роки тому +3

      Me personally most likely a super precious piece of turquoise that I either didn’t realize it was as valuable as it is and ended up selling for peanuts or that I Cut for a customer and didn’t notice it at the time
      When I first started doing lapidary stuff I used to work for my grandfather who paid me and weed and I would work a lot of his super precious materials for his customers one time he gave me a square bead that was a super precious piece of turquoise that was a family heirloom of a customer of his he asked me to cut it in half and instead of cutting it to make two large squares I cut it down the middle to make two small rectangles and totally ruined a piece of turquoise he couldn’t be fixed and my grandfather didn’t talk to me for three months LOL

    Question: Why are some points made with uneven bases? Is there any signifigance if one side of the point or tower has a larger facet? You show some small points at 21:09 and noticed that the base was not cut evenly. Does it indicate some sort of the flaw in the cut or stone?

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  3 роки тому +1

      Hello there my friend thank you for watching I really appreciate it in a lot of cases especially when it comes to materials like these towers in this video people are cutting for size since those points and towers are sold by weight and not buy the piece because of quality in particular or have uneven pieces that Waymore than cutting the bases to make them straight and symmetrical since they are sold most likely by the kilo this is a very common thing with materials from over sea
      I would rather have a material that was slightly less large that was even in symmetrical and easy on the eyes then a piece that was uneven just so that it could be worth a little bit more
      Also in the case of these points that you show in the timestamp they are all almost definitely re-cut which means they might’ve been crystals and had some original Natural surfaces but almost all of them have been re-cut into the shape of crystals because they’ve lost a lot of the shape from being beat up over the years or in some cases they were never even CRYSTAL’s at all and just larger pieces of crystal material that the shape into a crystal they are nice though I like include quartz for sure

    Hi Dave,
    How is it looking for 2021 shows with Covid and everything? Does it look like there will still be shows?

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  3 роки тому +1

      The show is on :) unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation because the 40 something venues that make up the Tucson show do not work together and though only about 4 shows which were all indoor shows have canceled the news and articles written about the few cancellations do not mention that it’s only a few shows one of which is the TCC aka Tucson convention center show that is considered The original Tucson gem and mineral show so when the local news newspapers and articles read about it they say the Tucson gem and mineral show is canceled even though it’s only one venue out of the 40+ shows and in fact is not even one of the biggest it’s just the original and it’s what the locals consider the real Tucson gem and mineral show it’s a ticket show I think it’s $22 for general admission and actually is an only three days we’re almost every venue is at least a month anyway sorry for rambling but the show is definitely on
      I vend at the kino electric sports complex show Which is one of the larger outdoor shows during Tucson my grandmother is close friends with the organizers of the show who we contact every few weeks to make sure it’s still on and as of right now it definitely is they plan on doing contact tracing and there will be a limit to how many people are allowed in the venue at one time similar to how it was in Denver

    Do videos of you doing accessories.
    I am starting to make jewelry and I want to start using real crystals and good gems etc. I live in Phoenix, I'd love to know what you recommend me where to buy in Phoenix?? The right places for crystals. I like one store, but maybe you know of mare. Or actual websites. I will start going to the Phoenix gem shows!!!! I will save money so I can buy lol... I can't wait for January!!
    I would also like to know your social media, maybe you upload how to do certain jewelry for man or whatever. I have male friends that have asked if I can make a male bracelet but I can't lol. I think I make them too feminine...
    I want to be your friend!!!

      Hello there my friend thanks for watching I really appreciate it when it comes to the Tucson show in 2021 even though the world is pretty crazy right now I would definitely recommend it it’s going to be a slightly smaller show because a lot of foreigners from overseas will not be able to make it but they will still be thousands of vendors throughout the town when it comes to what days to go the best selection can be had earlier in the show and the best deals And chance of negotiation pricewise can be had towards the end of the show I personally think you should come whenever is the best time for you because it’s such a weird year maybe earlier is better because most of the people come towards the end of the shows to get to crazy deals and I wouldn’t be surprised if the lines are crazy because they are going to limit how many people can go into every venue so on second thought earlier is better I hope to see you there my friend

      @lapidarydave  3 роки тому

      You know I have to think about if I should upload these types of videos because of how much to fix stuff there can be or even worse ugly mass produced Angels and Merkaba’s etc. but I think posting these types of videos can educate people on what is real and what is fake and can let people now let’s fix stuff can be beautiful to not everybody who is a jeweler is necessarily into gemstones and that everyone that’s in the gemstones is necessarily against me and made once I have a video coming out soon on the bed and jewelry and how they incorporate Materials that are obviously fake however they’re just using what they can get their hands on and they’re using it for the color not necessarily to trick someone into believing something is coral or Turquoise thanks for watching my friend I really appreciate it
